Nottingham Forest 2-1 Reading
Rob Earnshaw wasn’t expected to play during a hamstring injury but he not only played, he scored Forest’s second goal just before half-time. Reading found Forest to be tougher opponents than Liverpool but Simon Church came close twice and only a couple of excellent saves from the Forest keeper stopped him from scoring. Reading finally managed to score in the fourth minute of stoppage time, denying Chris Gunter a clean sheet, but Forest were down to ten men by then.
Peterborough 0-3 Derby County
Craig Morgan was sent off after 27 minutes and when the other centre back Ryan Bennett joined him just before half-time, the match finally turned into something Derby could win. Peterborough’s best chance came from Derby captain Robbie Savage who nearly scored an own goal but luckily he didn’t.
Plymouth 0-1 Crystal Palace
Carl Fletcher did his best for Plymouth but all he had to show for it was a yellow card.
Scunthorpe United 1-1 Cardiff City
Cardiff looked to be heading for another defeat but Peter Whittingham managed to win them a point in the 82nd minute. Cardiff’s Adam Matthews was taken off four minutes from the end but he was probably their best player. No wonder Arsenal, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Everton are interested. Joe Ledley played the full game but is set to have surgery on his hip before the end of the month and he’ll need the rest of the season to recover. So he won’t be in Wales’ squad to face Sweden.
Young Aaron Wildig also played ninety minutes (plus stoppage time). Darcy Blake wasn’t on the bench, maybe he’s about to go on loan again.
