League Two Results 30th January Part 2
Port Vale 2-0 Hereford United
It was an eventful day for Port Vale’s Welsh strikers. Craig Davies had the better day of the two when he put Vale ahead after 9 minutes. It’s his first goal for nearly a year but he might not have played all that many matches since then. Judging from reports it would have been easier to score than not but we know things don’t always work like that in football and I’m really happy for him. He was substituted after 64 minutes though which might not mean anything but I just hope he’s not injured.
One reason why I really want Craig to be fit for Vale’s next game is because they won’t have Lewis Haldane. Lewis celebrated his first match as an official Port Vale player by getting sent off for two bookable offences, the second one just seven minutes after the first. Manager Micky Adams kindly described it as ‘enthusiasm’ and I’m happy to go along with that. It’s the first time Lewis has ever been sent off and the first yellow card did seem harsh.
Well done to the rest of Port Vale’s players, including defender Gareth Owen, for keeping a clean sheet and not letting Hereford take advantage of their extra man – Vale actually didn’t get their second goal until the second minute of stoppage time.
Not to be out done, Hereford then had one of their players sent off. Ryan Valentine was dismissed, also for a second yellow card. With Ryan Green already out after having a hernia operation, I wonder if Hereford have a defensive crisis on their hands. Hereford do still have Darren Jones though.
Rotherham United P-P Macclesfield Town
This was another game to fall foul of the weather. Matthew Tipton’s Macclesfield will face Rotherham when their pitch has unfrozen!
Shrewsbury Town 0-1 Accrington Stanley
Will Richards was not in Shrewsbury squad as they lost to Accrington.
Torquay United 1-2 Bradford City
Substitute Gareth Evans is apparently English but if he has got any Welsh blood, Wales could do with some players who can come off the bench and turn a 1-0 defeat into a 2-1 victory. He would be playing against better sides with Wales than with Bradford though. But Welsh or not, his appearance meant that Michael Flynn was on the winning side.
