FA Cup Results 6th November 2010 (Part 1)

Accrington Stanley 3-2 Oldham Athletic
Accrington aren’t doing brilliantly in League Two while Oldham are promotion contenders in League One. But this is the FA Cup and anything can happen. And it did.
Joe Jacobson wasn’t in Oldham’s squad.

AFC Wimbledon 0-0 Ebbsfleet United
Ten years ago, Ebbsfleet were known as Gravesend & Northfleet while AFC Wimbledon didn’t even exist. But AFC Wimbledon done so well, it’s an Ebbsfleet win that would count as a giant-killing. Ebbsfleeet managed to force a replay this time… but AFC Wimbledon might have an extra incentive to get through the replay and into Round 2.
Reece Jones wasn’t in AFC Wimbledon’s squad because he’s gone on loan to Lewes.
Gareth Williams made a late substitute appearance for Ebbsfleet.

Barnet 0-0 Charlton Athletic
Barnet are the lowest-placed team in the Football League and haven’t been particularly renowned for their wins. So a draw with League One promotion hopefuls Charlton is a good result. The only problem is, this is the FA Cup so they have to play the match all over again.
Defender Grant Basey, who left Charlton this summer, played the full match for Barnet and got a good reception from the Charlton fans.

Bournemouth 5-3 Tranmere Rovers
Bournemouth are currently looking like contenders for a second successive promotion while Tranmere’s best hope of promotion is probably to get relegated this season and then promoted the following season. Bournemouth got the expected win despite resting players but three goals for Tranmere suggest they could be up for a fight after all.
Rhoys Wiggins was a 61st-minute substitute.

Brentford 1-1 Aldershot Town
Brentford are gradually climbing the League One table after a poor start but they couldn’t manage a win over League Two’s Aldershot.
Darren Jones returned to Aldershot’s starting line-up after a one-match suspension. Aaron Morris, who replaced him in the last match, was moved into defensive midfield and did a good job.

Brighton & Hove Albion 0-0 Woking
No Welshmen in this fixture as far as I know but well done to Conference South team Woking for getting a draw at the home of the team who are technically the highest-ranked in the competition.

Bury 2-0 Exeter City
Bury turned giant-killers when the League Two promotion hopefuls beat League One’s Exeter City.
Bury were lucky that Stockport County were happy to let them cup-tie loan goalkeeper Owain fon Williams, who probably made Stockport look as silly as Exeter.
Richard Duffy returned to the starting line-up after recovering from illness while there was a second consecutive start for Daniel Nardiello, who hit the post but didn’t score. Rob Edwards was on the bench.

Cambridge United 0-0 Huddersfield Town
Non-league side Cambridge managed to hold one of the biggest clubc in the competition to a draw. Dave Partridge played the full match for Cambridge but also picked up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Cheltenham Town 1-0 Morecambe
Last season, Morecambe were in the play-offs while Cheltenham finished third from bottom. But this season, it’s Morecambe who have had the shakier start, while Cheltenham have looked like promotion contenders. No surprises in this Cup match – Cheltenham go through.
Josh Low came close to putting Cheltenham ahead but didn’t. But he has had a good season and he feels this is because he has such a good relationship with his manager.

FA Cup Fixtures 6th November 2010 (Part 1)

Accrington Stanley v Oldham Athletic
Joe Jacobson was hoping to force his way back into the Oldham first-team after spending the summer on the transfer list. A match against League Two Accrington could give him his chance.

AFC Wimbledon v Ebbsfleet United
Reece Jones signed for AFC Wimbledon this season after leaving Fulham.
Gareth Williams has just recovered from an injury and is likely to be on the bench for Ebbsfleet but he’s pretty dangerous even as a substitute.

Barnet v Charlton Athletic
Grant Basey should keep his place for Barnet against the club he played for last season.

Bournemouth v Tranmere Rovers
Rhoys Wiggins should start for Bournemouth.
Tranmere’s Ash Taylor is still out witn an ankle injury.

Brentford v Aldershot Town
Darren Jones is likely to return to Aldershot’s team after serving a one-match suspension. Aaron Morris took Darren’s place in the team while he was suspended so he could be back on the bench.

Bury v Exeter City
Owain fon Williams is at Bury on loan from Stockport County but he has been given permission to play against Exeter.
Daniel Nardiello is expected to start for Exeter after recovering from a hamstring injury. Richard Duffy could return to Exeter’s starting line-up if he’s fully recovered from illness – but if he doesn’t, Rob Edwards could keep his place. I’m not sure we’ll see Andy Marriott this season but if he’s going to play/sit on the bench, it’s most likely to happen against lower league opposition.
