Paul Parry was on the losing side as Newcastle won 1-0. They’re far too good, Newcastle. I was happy when they got relegated because I’ve always rather liked Middlesbrough (and I thought their old manager was hot) and I thought if Middlesbrough had to go down, at least they dragged Newcastle down with them and very nearly Sunderland too. But if Newcastle are going to be this brilliant they might as well have stayed in the Premiership really.
Preston aren’t even a bad side. Paul nearly got three goals and an assist. And that was just in the first half. If Newcastle hadn’t been so good, Jermain Defoe’s five goals for Tottenham could have been old news.
