Scunthorpe United 2-2 Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest struggle away, yes? And they have a very important away game against Blackpool coming up? And if they hadn’t got a point from this game, they could have finished 4th instead of 3rd? Luckily rivals Derby County beat Cardiff City for them but still, I have to wonder what was going on in the Forest manager’s head, playing a weakened team again. Were his players really that tired? Going into a play-off game, the thought that Scunthorpe United came back from 2-0 down to snatch a point probably isn’t very inspiring.
Chris Gunter and Robert Earnshaw were both on the bench for Nottingham Forest. For all ninety minutes. Or all 94 minutes if you’re going to get technical. I hope Forest don’t try anything like this in the play-offs. Oh yes, we’ll just leave out our top scorer and the guy who got into the PFA Team of the Season.
Swansea City 0-0 Doncaster Rovers
A draw would only have been enough for Swansea if Blackpool had lost 13-0. But as it happened, Blackpool drew too and Swansea finished one point outside the play-offs. Cardiff City fans might have some sympathy for them, as something similar happened to them last season. But then again, they probably won’t! It was a disappointing end to the season for Swansea, who were around ten points ahead of Cardiff at one stage.
Doncaster will be disappointed too as they were play-off contenders themselves for a while. But I’m sure they’ll take 13th place, having been one of the favourites to go down.
Ashley Williams and David Cotterill both started for Swansea, with David Cornell on the bench. Joe Allen and Jazz Richards (who could still be injured) were out of the squad altogether,
Gareth Roberts was Doncaster’s only Welsh representative in their final match of the season. It was hoped that John Oster would return from his knee injury, while Brian Stock, the man who replaced him last week, didn’t seem to be suffering any ill effects after making an ealie return from a back injury than expected. But neither were in the squad
