Manchester United 3-1 Manchester City (4-3 on aggregate)
Manchester City are out of the Carling Cup whilst Manchester United could win it for the second year running. It was a tense and exciting game that so nearly went to extra time – the final goal, in the second minute of stoppage time, seemed to come pretty much out of nowhere. I wasn’t sure who I wanted to win this but as I don’t know any Manchester City supporters (or I don’t know anyone who will admit to being a Manchester City supporter) I think this was probably the result I was looking for.
Ryan Giggs provided an excellent assist for Wayne Rooney’s winning goal (as a Wales fan, I think Ryan should take a lot of the credit but no doubt some will disagree) and City’s Craig Bellamy provided the assist for Carlos Tevez’ goal – another nice piece of skill that meant extra time was looking more and more likely.
There was one horrible moment though where Man Utd fans threw a coin and a champagne bottle at Craig Bellamy. I know he can be annoying but that is no reason to assault him. Because that’s what it is, assault.
