Blackburn Rovers Jason Brown is hoping to leave Blackburn, either permanently or on loan, in order to get some first-team football and play for Wales again.
David Vaughan, along with some of his other Blackpool team-mates, has been told he won’t be leaving the club this transfer window. Certainly not to go to an inferior club like Liverpool.

League One Results 14th January 2011
Brentford 1-1 Exeter City
Usually if a team manages to preserve a lead for 90 minutes, they will have won the match. But this was not the case with Exeter. They took the lead as early as the 2nd minute, and Brentford waited until the 94th before letting them know they weren’t going to be taking all three points after all.
Daniel Nardiello got his first start for Exeter for a month. Although he didn’t get on the scoresheet, he gave Brentford’s keeper plenty to worry about. Richard Duffy spent the first 93 minutes ensuring Exeter held onto their lead.
Colchester United 2-1 Bournemouth
Eddie Howe’s last match as the manager of high-flying Bournemouth came to an end with defeat to Colchester. place after the weekend’s games. All the goals were scored by substitutes, with Bournemouth’s half-time substitute Steve Fletcher taking the lead early in the second half – only for later substitute Steven Gillespie of Colchester to score twice to give the home side the points.
Howe is now the manager of Burnley and it’s very sad to see him go. His love for the club was clear but his desire to manager a bigger club was too strong to resist. And maybe Howe’s decision was the most sensible decision. So many people do seem to take a better job when the chance is there, regardless of whether they think they’ll love the new job more than the old job.

League One Fixtures 14th January 2011

Exeter might be down in fourteenth place, just seven points above the relegation places, but they’re also four points behind the play-offs. A win for Brentford could put them outside the play-offs only on goal difference but most of the clubs around the two teams have played fewer games.
Richard Duffy left the field at half-time due to injury in Exeter’s draw with Milton Keynes Dons but there’s nothing to suggest he won’t be able to play. Rob Edwards and Daniel Nardiello are most likely to be on the bench.

FA Cup Results 8th January 2011 Third Round (Part Five)
Swansea City 4-0 Colchester United
Colchester are challenging for promotion from League One but they were easily beaten by Premier League contenders Swansea City, who haven’t lost at home since November. Swansea will be at home again in the fourth round: they face Leyton Orient, who knocked out Swansea’s promotion rivals Norwich City.
Ashley Williams, Joe Allen and Jazz Richards all played 90 minutes for Swansea, as did, more surprisingly, Danny Alfei, who played a big part in two of Swansea’s goals. Jermaine Easter was a late substitute but Casey Thomas stayed on the bench.
Jazz was hoping Swansea could win this match and take their Cup form back into the League with them. It’s fair to say they’ve done the first part.
Lee Beevers started for Colchester with Lloyd James coming off the bench. Tom Bender was an unused substitute.
West Ham United 2-0 Barnsley
West Ham lost 5-0 to Newcastle United in the week, a side Stevenage had apparently little trouble in despatching. Manager Avram Grant sensibly made eight changes and it worked well in the first half – Barnsley might not be among the league’s front-runners but they do have Adam Hammill. In the second half, West Ham seemed content to defend their lead, which was only 1-0 at this time, and Barnsley were quite unlucky to get an equaliser. But luckily for West Ham, the game’s second goal was scored by the home side and they progressed to set up a home match against Nottingham Forest in the fourth round.
Danny Gabbidon was one of West Ham’s rested players.

Fa Cup Fixtures 8th January 2011 (Part 6)
Sunderland v Notts County
Notts County are near the bottom of League One so they probably don’t really want to go to a team who don’t go around losing home matches very often. So Notts County will be hoping to emulate Blackpool and West Ham United. (I would go for Blackpool.)
Ben Davies should start for Notts County.

Swansea probably still remember the last time they were giant-killed in the FA Cup. I bet most Cardiff City fans remember it too. The giant-killers in question also played Liverpool..Colchester, meanwhile, will be hoping to improve on last year’s 7-0 exit to Preston North End.
Neil Taylor is still out for Swansea with an ankle injury (he’s likely to be out for four weeks) but Ashley Williams, Joe Allen and David Cotterill should all be available. It looks as though Jermaine Easter hasn’t represented parent club Milton Keynes Dons in the FA Cup so assuming MK Dons give him permission, he could also play.
Colchester are missing at least three defenders which could be good news for Lee Beevers. Lloyd James will also be hoping for a second consecutive start. There could also be a space for Tom Bender on the bench again Tom will be off to the Balon d’Or ceremony next week.
Torquay United v Carlisle United
Carlisle supporters will have to travel a very long way in order to get to this match so they’ll really be hoping it’s worth it. Neither club has won since November but they’ve both only played three games since then.
Jason Price is back from his loan spell at Bradford City but he has already represented Bradford in the FA Cup.

West Ham are expected to rest players which could be great news for Barnsley.

League One Results 11th December 2010 (Part 1)
Bournemouth 0-1 Hartlepool United
Bournemouth lost a second successive match whilst Hartlepool climbed into the top half of the table, somewhere they have no right to be. Whatever next, a pub team from Essex in League One… oh wait.
Rhoys Wiggins played the full match for Bournemouth.
Carlisle United 0-2 Dagenham & Redbridge
My favourite pub team from Essex (actually my favourite team of any kind in Essex) Dag & Red got an impressive away win at Carlisle United, who drop down to eleventh as a result but they’re still only two points from the play-offs.
Kayleden Brown got not one but two assists for Dagenham, both of them coming in the last eight minutes (or the last eleven minutes if you want to get technical). He arguably should have got a third ‘assist’ but the referee chose not to award a penalty after Kayleden was fouled. Tony Roberts was in athetic form in the Daggers’ goal.
Colchester United 0-0 Yeovil Town
Struggling Yeovil got an excellent away point at Colchester, who remain in the play-off places. Yeovil weren’t able to overtake Dagenham & Redbridge unfortunately as they won too but at least they got a bit further away from Walsall.
Lloyd James made a late substitute appearance for Colchester but Lee Beevers stayed on the bench.
Shaun MacDonald, Yeovil’s only remaining Welsh loanee midfielder, played the full match.

Bournemouth will go second if they win and Charlton lose and Sheffield Wednesday don’t win by four goals more than Bournemouth. If Hartlepool win, they might go into the top half of the table.
Bournemouth have only lost one home league match this season and failed to win just two.
Rhoys Wiggins says Bournemouth can continue to prove their doubters wrong. Rhoys will make his 50th league start for Bournemouth in this match.
Carlisle United v Dagenham & Redbridge
Dag & Red are improving but they’re six points from safety so they ideally need to improve a little bit more. They’ve only won one away game this season (and drawn just two) but that’s only one fewer than Carlisle.
Carlisle don’t seem to want Jason Price back from Bradford City.
I haven’t heard anything about Tony Roberts but BBC Sport suggests he won’t play in goal. Well, he’s not likely to play anywhere else. Kayleden Brown could start after extending his loan spell until next year.

FA Cup Results 27th November 2010 (Part 1)
Burton Albion 3-1 Chesterfield
In the league, Chesterfield are on top while Burton (like every other team in League Two) are further down. But Cup matches can go either way even when the two sides involved are in different divisions so this probably shouldn’t really be a surprise. Even though it is. Burton’s next opponents are struggling Championship side Middlesbrough.
Tony James was on the bench for Burton. I like to think he was rested but the truth is he isn’t really first-choice anymore.

Bury 1-2 Peterborough United
Bury killed one giant in the first round but Peterborough were just a little bit too much for them in the second. Next time, Peterborough could be the giant-killers as they face Fulham.

Tamworth will feel disappointed to go out but the non-league side played well and didn’t look like minnows. Not that I’ve ever seen a footballer who does. The score was 2-2 with minutes still to play and it looked as though Tamworth had forced a replay but then Carlisle scored which spoiled things a bit. Carlisle will need to up their game just slightly when they face League Two Torquay United.

Swindon Supermarines bowed out of the FA Cup after another great performance against one of the best teams (according to League place) in the competition. They couldn’t quite equalise but they must have given Colchester’s players a few scares. Colchester’s next opponents are a few more stops down the train line from Swindon – Swansea City.
Lee Beevers and Lloyd James were unused substitutes for Colchester.

Two former League sides battled for the right to face a Premier League side in the third round and it was York who went through, with Bolton Wanderers their reward.

But Cup matches can go either way even when the two sides involved are in different divisions so this probably shouldn’t really be a surprise. Even though it is. FA Cup Fixtures 27th November 2010 (Part 1)
AFC Wimbledon v Stevenage
AFC Wimbledon would have played MK Dons if they’d managed to beat Stevenage in the replay – but MK Dons just weren’t good enough.
AFC Wimbledon’s Reece Jones missed out in the last round as he was on loan at Lewes and it looks like he’s still there.

League One Results 20th November 2010 (Part 1)
Brighton & Hove Albion 2-2 Bristol Rovers
Brighton are just four points clear at the top of the table after Bristol Rovers grabbed a stoppage time draw. But Brighton’s unbeaten home record remains intact.
Byron Anthony had a mixed game, scoring the goal to put Bristol Rovers 1-0 up before conceding the penalty to put Brighton ahead. If you must do both, Byron, it’s so much better to do them the other way around. Byron also picked up his fifth yellow card of the season. At least five Welsh players have ‘achieved’ that this season.
Ben Swallow started for Bristol Rovers for the first time this season. Eliot Richards was on the bench.
Charlton Athletic 3-2 Yeovil Town
Yeovil gave Charlton a tougher time of it than Peterborough did in the last match but the result was just the same in terms of three points going to Charlton.
Gavin Williams and Shaun MacDonald both played the full match for Yeovil but Gavin picked up his fifth yellow card. Nathan Jones and Owain Tudur Jones dropped to the bench.

Hartlepool thought they’d snatched a point in the 88th minute but Colchester won in injury time with a dramatic and controversial penalty.
Lee Beevers came off the bench after 79 minutes. Lloyd James didn’t come off the bench at all.
Dagenham & Redbridge 0-1 Oldham Athletic
Dagenham remain in 22nd place on goal difference despite losing to Oldham.
New loan signing Kayelden Brown made his first start for the Daggers but Tony Roberts was only on the bench, presumably due to his back injury.
Joe Jacobson was an unused substitute for Oldham but all Oldham’s substitutes were unused in this match.

Brighton are unbeaten at home but you should never write off Bristol Rovers. They lose to the most embarrassing teams – but they also beat some pretty good ones.
Byron Anthony is expected to play at right back for Bristol Rovers. Ben Swallow is expected to be given his first start of the season. Eliot Richards will probably be on the bench.
Charlton Athletic v Yeovil Town
Yeovil have found wins hard to come by this season and now they face Charlton, a team that has just put five past the formerly high-flying Peterborough United.
Gavin Williams has fully recovered from an ankle injury and could start alongside Owain Tudur Jones and Shaun MacDonald. Nathan Jones might also start for Yeovil again.
Colchester United v Hartlepool United
Both teams had a disappointing end to last season, with Colchester missing out on the play-offs despite being there for most of the season, while Hartlepool were deducted three points and came very close to relegation. Things are looking similar this season. Colchester are in the play-offs but currently only on goal difference while Hartlepool really don’t want to lose another three points. Although I doubt they’d enjoy three points in any circumstances.
Lee Beevers and Lloyd James are most likely to be on the bench for Colchester.
Dagenham & Redbridge v Oldham Athletic
Dag & Red are in the bottom four but they’ve only lost once at home this season. Quite a lot better than Oldham’s away record.

League One Results 13th November 2010 (Part 2)
Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Rochdale
Sheffield Wednesday’s victory over Rochdale was their third win in three matches.
Rochdale’s Welsh substitutions mirrored Cardiff’s Welsh substitutions even down to the time of substitution. After 71 minutes, Nicky Adams came off and Matt Done went on but Matt was not replacing Nicky.
Swindon Town 2-1 Colchester United
Swindon moved closer to the top half of the table after beating Colchester, who lost an away match for the first time this season.
No Welshmen in this game. Billy Bodin (Swindon) and Lee Beevers and Lloyd James (both Colchester) were all unusued substitutes.
Tranmere Rovers 1-0 Plymouth Argyle
Tranmere moved out of the relegation places with victory over Plymouth, who are ahead of them only on goal difference.
Tranmere are still without ankle injury victim Ash Taylor but he is back in training.
Carl Fletcher (Plymouth) is likely to be able to out with a leg injury for at least another fortnight.
Yeovil Town 1-3 Dagenham & Redbridge
Dag & Red moved ahead of Yeovil on goal difference after beating them 3-1, their first away win of the season.
Nathan Jones started for Yeovil. The assistant manager says he is proud to have more appearances with Yeovil than with any other club in his career.
Owain Tudur Jones played despite a recent thigh strain and got the assist but that probably wasn’t much of a consolation. Shaun MacDonald also started for Yeovil and came close to scoring. Gavin Williams was a late substitute.
Goalkeeper Tony Roberts was absent from Dag & Red’s squad due to an ankle injury. So they did especially well to win. But Dag & Red did have one Welsh player on the bench: Kayelden Brown, who has signed on loan from West Bromwich Albion. He has previously played on loan at Tranmere Rovers this season.

FA Cup Results 6th November 2010 (Part 2)
Colchester United 4-3 Bradford City
Bradford have been on a great run after a poor start to the season and they came very close to giving League One promotion hopefuls Colchester a bit of a shock.
Lee Beevers and Lloyd James were unused substitutes for Colchester.
Bradford are so good, Jason Price just can’t get a start. He was a 58th-minute substitute.
Dagenham & Redbridge 1-1 Leyton Orient
These East London teams are now set to meet four times this season after their FA Cup tie went to a replay.
Dag & Red keeper Tony Roberts, who is possibly still slightly troubled with his ankle injury, was on the bench.
Darlington 2-1 Bristol Rovers
It hasn’t been a good year for Bristol Rovers in the Cups. The League One side was thrashed 6-1 by League Two team Oxford United in the Carling Cup and now they have lost to Darlington, who haven’t exactly been lighting up the Blue Square Premier.
Byron Anthony played in defence for Bristol Rovers while Ben Swallow and Eliot Richards both made substitute appearances.
Dartford 1-1 Port Vale
Blue Square South strugglers Dartford managed to force a replay against Port Vale, who aren’t exactly struggling in League Two.
Lewis Haldane made his long-awaited return to League Two football when he came off Port Vale’s bench after half-time. Gareth Owen also played for Port Vale.
Fleetwood Town 1-1 Walsall
Walsall haven’t had a great season but perhaps it’s just got even worse after the League One side failed to knock the Conference North side out of the FA Cup. They will get another chance though.
Sean Geddes wasn’t in Walsall’s squad for the sixth consecutive game.
Forest Green Rovers 0-3 Northampton Town
Northampton are pretty good at these Cups. They found Forest Green even less trouble than Liverpool.
Mike Fowler played 85 minutes for Forest Green. Curtis McDonald was on the bench.

League One Results 2nd November 2010 (Part 1)
Brentford 1-1 Bournemouth
A penalty from Brentford earned them a share of the points against Bournemouth, despite the fact they didn’t actually have a shot on target (penalties don’t count). Bournemouth slip out of the play-off places as a result – they have won only one away match this season.
Rhoys Wiggins played the full match for Bournemouth. The BBC Sport report says his free kick was the assist for Bournemouth’s goal but the live text on the same site doesn’t agree.
Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 Exeter City
Have the Exeter players been snogging the MK Dons players? At any rate, Exeter became the second League One side of the weekend to be depleted by illness as Brighton stretched their unbeaten league run to twelve matches. Brighton are eight points clear at the top of the table
This was perhaps the reason why Richard Duffy was on Exeter’s bench but he was replaced by Rob Edwards so it could have been worse. Rob had a controversial moment with a member of the opposition but the referee didn’t see it and even if he did, the sight of a player clutching his face is always one to be viewed with suspicion. Daniel Nardiello wasn’t supposed to be fit for this match but he was not only on the bench, he was a 56th-minute substitute.
Colchester United 3-2 Leyton Orient
Colchester manager John Ward didn’t feel Colchester deserved to be 2-0 down after eighteen minutes and his players ensured they weren’t 2-0 down at the end of the match. Orient are still without an away win this season
Lee Beevers has made a lot of substitute appearances really so Colchester decided it was Lloyd James’ turn to come off the bench.
Hartlepool United A-A Notts County
This match was abandoned with the scores at 0-0 due to the weather conditions. The pitch was already waterlogged and it was still raining.
Ben Davies started for Notts County and had a shot saved.
Milton Keynes Dons 3-2 Yeovil Town
MK Dons manager Karl Robinson said he thought the MK Dons players were all too ill for him to name any substitutes. Luckily for him, he did manage to name four substitutes, not including a goalkeeper, which is apparently a lot more than they had in the old days and MK Dons won a late penalty and won the match – they now have six wins and two draws from their eight home games.
Jermaine Easter came off the bench after 69 minutes for MK Dons.
Nathan Jones, Shaun MacDonald, Owain Tudur Jones and Gavin Williams all started for Yeovil. Nathan probably enjoyed the game the most, getting his second assist in successive matches while
for Shaun it would have been more disappointing as he conceded a penalty, causing MK Dons to take the lead and win the match.
A penalty from Brentford earned them a share of the points against Bournemouth, despite the fact they didn’t actually have a shot on target (penalties don’t count). Bournemouth slip out of the play-off places as a result – they have won only one away match this season.
Rhoys Wiggins played the full match for Bournemouth. The BBC Sport report says his free kick was the assist for Bournemouth’s goal but the live text on the same site doesn’t agree.
Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 Exeter City
Have the Exeter players been snogging the MK Dons players? At any rate, Exeter became the second League One side of the weekend to be depleted by illness as Brighton stretched their unbeaten league run to twelve matches. Brighton are eight points clear at the top of the table
This was perhaps the reason why Richard Duffy was on Exeter’s bench but he was replaced by Rob Edwards so it could have been worse. Rob had a controversial moment with a member of the opposition but the referee didn’t see it and even if he did, the sight of a player clutching his face is always one to be viewed with suspicion. Daniel Nardiello wasn’t supposed to be fit for this match but he was not only on the bench, he was a 56th-minute substitute.
Colchester United 3-2 Leyton Orient
Colchester manager John Ward didn’t feel Colchester deserved to be 2-0 down after eighteen minutes and his players ensured they weren’t 2-0 down at the end of the match. Orient are still without an away win this season
Lee Beevers has made a lot of substitute appearances really so Colchester decided it was Lloyd James’ turn to come off the bench.
Hartlepool United A-A Notts County
This match was abandoned with the scores at 0-0 due to the weather conditions. The pitch was already waterlogged and it was still raining.
Ben Davies started for Notts County and had a shot saved.

League One Results 30th October 2010 (Part 1)
Bournemouth 1-2 Colchester United
Bournemouth were unbeaten at home before this match while Colchester were unbeaten away and it was Colchester – who only recemtly lost their unbeaten home record – who came out on top.
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe’s comments suggested he thought Bournemouth had got a point. It would be lovely if he was right but he’s really kind of not. The FA change the rules every year but if they’d changed that one, I’m sure I’d know about it.

Lee Beevers and Lloyd James were both on the bench for Colchester, with Lee making another late appearance as a substitute.
Bristol Rovers 1-1 Carlisle United
When Bristol Rovers defender Danny Coles handled the ball in the penalty area stoppage time, Carlisle thought they’d snatched a win. Luckily for Bristol Rovers, their goalkeeper saved the penalty and the points were shared.
Byron Anthony played the full match for Bristol Rovers with Eliot Richards and Ben Swallow on the bench.
Dagenham & Redbridge 1-1 Hartlepool United
If Dag & Red want to stay in League One, they really ought to be beating their relegation rivals at home. And they could so easily have won this one without a stoppage-time own goal. It was a day for own goals – Dag & Red’s 49th-minute opener was scored by a Hartlepool player.
Tony Roberts was in goal for Dag & Red.

Exeter’s unbeaten home record came to an end when struggling Brentford (who are even now only two points above the relegation zone) managed an excellent win. It could have been even worse for Exeter – their goalkeeper Paul Jones (not to be confused with former Welsh international keeper Paul Jones) saved two penalties.
Richard Duffy played the full match with Rob Edwards on the bench. Daniel Nardiello’s hamstring didn’t allow him to take part.
Leyton Orient 2-1 Rochdale
Even after this win, Leyton Orient are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference but at least they’re out of it. Rochdale lost their third consecutive away game although they had their chances to grab a point.
Nicky Adams nearly opened the scoring for Rochdale but unfortunately his effort was saved. Nicky conceded the penalty, wrongly in the opinion of Rochdale manager Keith Hill. Matt Done came off the bench after 71 minutes.

League One Fixtures 2nd November 2010 (Part 1)
Brentford v Bournemouth
Bournemouth are currently in fourth place but as yet they have only won once away.
Rhoys Wiggins should start for Bournemouth.
Brighton & Hove Albion v Exeter City
Exeter travel to league leaders Brighton, who are unbeaten at home.
Richard Duffy should start for Exeter and Rob Edwards is likely to be in the squad. Daniel Nardiello is either back in full training or seeing a specialist (or possibly both, if that’s possible) but won’t play tonight due to a hamstring injury.
Colchester United v Leyton Orient
Leyton Orient are hoping to pick up their first away win of the season against third-placed Colchester, who have only lost once at home.
Lee Beevers might hope to start for Colchester but I expect him to be on the bench with Lloyd James.
Hartlepool United v Notts County
Notts County have only four points from away matches this season and lie in 19th place. But is that any reason to sack a manager? He’s only been there five minutes. Five months anyway.
Ben Davies will be in midfield for Notts County.

No fewer than twelve of MK Dons’ players have a virus and could play without a single substitute. They are unbeaten at home but right now they’ll have other things on their minds. Yeovil will be hoping they can take advantage of MK Dons’ situation and move out of the bottom four.
Jermaine Easter was the first MK Dons player to catch the bug but there’s no news on whether he’s recovered.
Shaun MacDonald, Owain Tudur Jones and Gavin Williams should keep their places in Yeoil[s starting line-up. Nathan Jones has featured in the last couple of squads and could be there again

League One Results 23rd October 2010 (Part 1)
Brentford 2-1 Peterborough United
Brentford climbed out of the bottom three with an excellent win over third-placed Peterborough.
Arron Davies played 58 minutes for Peterborough
Brighton 2-0 Yeovil Town
Owain Tudur Jones and Gavin Williams played the full match for Yeovil but they weren’t able to do anything much against League One’s top club. Nathan Jones and Rhys Baggridge were both on the bench but Shaun MacDonald missed out due to illness.
Colchester United 2-1 Notts County
Colchester’s Lee Beevers returned from a hand injury inn the 93rd minute. Lloyd James was on the bench.

League One Fixtures 16th October 2010 Part 2
Exeter City v Carlisle United
Exeter aim to continue their unbeaten home record against second-placed Carlisle.
Richard Duffy should start for Exeter. Daniel Nardiello has recovered from a knock but he might not start as Exeter are anxious not to rush him back too quickly. Rob Edwards is expected to play in central defence.
Jason Price won’t be playing for Carlisle as he has been loaned out to Bradford City. Apparently it’s more a matter of getting him some games than getting rid of him but it’s not what he would have expected when he signed for Carlisle.
Huddersfield Town v Southampton
It was quite funny seeing favourites Southampton at the bottom of the table – and part of the reason why it was funny was because they were never really in any serious danger – seeing a team struggle for real is never amusing but Southampton were just having a bad start which now seems to be over. They’re up to thirteenth and already closer to automatic promotion than they are to relegation.
Ryan Doble sat on the bench for Wales’ match against Switzerland and this weekend, he could be doing the same for Southampton. It sounds quite nice getting paid to sit on a bench.
Notts County v Plymouth Argyle
This match sees a promoted side face a relegated one – and also a team who are strong at home face a team who are strong away. A nice test for these two very different new boys.
Ben Davies has been playing with a slight injury and is expected to continue to do so.
Carl Fletcher should play in midfield for Plymouth.
Oldham Athletic v Colchester United
Oldham, who are unbeaten at home, face Colchester, who are unbeaten guess where. A draw? Probably.
Joe Jacobson might not be in Oldham’s squad. He wasn’t last time. I think maybe they’ve decided to put him back on the transfer list after all.
Lloyd James will probably be on the bench for Colchester. So might Lee Beevers, if he’s recovered from his pram attacking his hand.
