Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 Peterborough United
Brighton won for the fourth successive match which probably wasn’t what Darren Ferguson was hoping for when he returned to manager Peterborough. An away win over Brighton would have been quite an achievement. No team has managed it in the league this season.
Arron Davies wasn’t in Peterborough’s squad.
Carlisle United 4-0 Bristol Rovers
Bristol Rovers’ long run without a win continued as Carlisle’s own winless run was ended in em[hatic style.
Jason Price wasn’t in Carlisle’s squad due to an Achilles injury.
Ben Swallow started for Bristol Rovers but Byron Anthony was still recovering from food poisoning and didn’t start. He was the player who replaced Ben. Eliot Richards was an unused substitute.
Hartlepool United 0-1 Dagenham & Redbridge
Dagenham & Redbridge got their third away win of the season while Hartlepool lost for the third consecutive match.
Tony Roberts kept a clean sheet for Dag & Red.
Milton Keynes Dons 2-0 Tranmere Rovers
MK Dons moved into the play-off places with victory over Tranmere, who are only out of the bottom four on goal difference.
Ash Taylor kept his place in Tranmere’s starting line-up.
Plymouth Argyle 0-2 Oldham Athletic
Oldham are now only a point behind the play-offs after this result.but Plymouth were starting to look over their shoulders again.
Carl Fletcher played the full match for Plymouth.
Rochdale 1-1 Leyton Orient
This game went ahead despite adverse weather conditions and arguably shouldn’t have happened at all. Rochdale scored first and it was the Rochdale manager who seemed to feel strongly that this match should have been abandoned. But I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.
Nicky Adams started for Rochdale and really got Leyton Orient worried but he was replaced by Matt Done after suffering an ankle injury.
Southampton 0-0 Notts County
Notts County brought to an end a run of five consecutive wins for Southampton – including a 6-0 thrashing of Oldham Athletic and an FA Cup victory over Premier League Blackpool.
Ryan Doble was on the bench for Southampton.
Ben Davies played the full match for Notts County.
Swindon Town 0-1 Yeovil Town
Yeovil keep their survival hopes alive with an excellent away win over Swindon Town. Yeovil remain in the bottom three only on goal difference while Swindon are just two points ahead.
Nathan Jones was on the bench for Yeovil.
Walsall 2-4 Huddersfield Town
Walsall matched Huddersfield for much of the game but unfortunately football matches last longer than 76 minutes and Huddersfield scored two late goals. If Walsall had managed to hang on (without scoring a winner), it would have been their first home draw of the season.

League One Fixtures 15th January 2011 (Part 2)
Rochdale v Leyton Orient
After a great start to life in League One, Rochdale were looking as though they could be heading straight back down to the division that they spent so long in, it was named after them. Now they’re three points from the play-offs, having only lost twice at home. But Orient will be feeling confident. After all, Rochdale aren’t as good as Norwich City, are they?
Nicky Adams is now a Rochdale player but last season he played for Leyton Orient on loan. They wanted him back on a permanent basis but luckily for Rochdale, Nicky doesn’t much like London.
Matt Done should also be in the squad for Rochdale.
Southampton v Notts County
A win for Southampton could put them top of the table but they’re still two whole divisions (okay maybe one and a half) below Sunderland and Notts County beat Sunderland. Notts County actually haven’t lost since mid-November.
Ben Davies will play for Notts County, except maybe if he’s about to be sold. Derby County have made a £250,000 bid but Paul Ince really wants to keep him.

Swindon continue to struggle at the opposite side of the table from the play-offs but they’re only six points away. It could still happen. And if it is going to happen, they ought to be able to beat Yeovil, who have lost seven of their eleven away games.
Nathan Jones and Rhys Baggridge could be on the bench for Yeovil again. Nathan hails Yeovil’s physio Simon Baker (probably not the guy I stalked at school), who has left the club in order to spend more time with his family.

Walsall are second-bottom but still quite a way adrift, despite being unbeaten in their last three matches. They’re still without a home draw in the league but ideally they want to beat Huddersfield, who have already lost six times away from home.

League One Results 8th January 2011
Bournemouth 3-0 Plymouth Argyle
Bournemouth moved up to second in the table as they beat Plymouth, who were unbeaten in five before Bournemouth came along and spoiled it.
Rhoys Wiggins was absent from Bournemouth’s squad due to an eye infection but they just about managed without him. Joe Partington was on the bench.
Carl Fletcher played the full match for Plymouth against his first ever club.
Dagenham & Redbridge 0-1 Rochdale
Dagenham & Redbridge are eight points from safety after losing to a Rochdale side who move into the top half of the table.
Tony Roberts nearly scored for Dag & Red when he joined his team-mates at the wrong end of the pitch for a corner but he headed wide.
Nicky Adams celebrated his permanent signing for Rochdale with the assist but Tony wouldn’t let him score.
Exeter City 1-1 Milton Keynes Dons
Exeter didn’t play well despite taking an early lead and MK Dons were able to snatch a share of the points in the 73rd minute.
Richard Duffy had a good first half but then he had to be replaced at half-time due to injury. Rob Edwards and Daniel Nardiello were unused substitutes.
Tranmere Rovers 3-3 Walsall
Walsall looked set to lose for the fifteenth time this season. With five minutes plus stoppage time to play, they were 3-1 down but they got one goal in the 85th minute followed by an equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time. A point doesn’t help their survival chances much but maybe it will give them some extra confidence.
Tranmere’s Ash Taylor played 90 minutes for the first time in the league this season

Yeovil played without a single Welshmen on the pitch at any time for what I believe is the first time this season. Luckily for them, it didn’t seem to be too much of a problem for them.

Transfer News and Rumours 8th January 2011 (Leagues 1 and 2)
Jason Price has returned to Carlisle United after his loan spell with Bradford City came to an end.
Rochdale have signed Nicky Adams from Brentford permanently. Nicky joined Brentford in the summer from Leicester City but he couldn’t settle and was loaned to former club Rochdale. It seems he likes it there.
Hereford United are interested in signing their former player Tony James. Tony returned to the club on loan this season but is now back with Burton Albion.

Welsh Players Christmas-New Year matches 2010-11 (League One, Part 2)
Exeter City
Richard Duffy got an assist in Exeter’s shock thrashing of Sheffield Wednesday but the cold weather meant they didn’t play again for the rest of the year. And when they did play again, they’d forgotten how to thrash top teams.

Rob Edwards seemed to have a Christmas break from playing but no doubt he was still there in a coaching capacity.

But being outside only on goal difference is a definite possibility considering Rochdale haven’t won any of their last seven games. Including their tie with FC United of Manchester, whom I’m sure will be back in the FA Cup next season.

League One Results 20th November 2010 (Part 2)
Huddersfield Town 0-1 Exeter City
Exeter are only in 12th place but they are only two points behind the topsix – and one behind Huddersfield.
Richard Duffy scored Exeter’s goal with his head. Daniel Nardiello was a late substitute but Rob Edwards stayed on the bench.
Leyton Orient 2-2 Bournemouth
Orient came back from 2-0 down to snatch a point in the second minute of stoppage time.
Jason Brown made his first start for Orient, after joining on loan from Blackburn Rovers, who’d only just got him back from Leeds United. He let in two goals but he had no chance with at least one of them.
Rhoys Wiggins played the full match for Bournemouth.
Milton Keynes Dons 1-4 Sheffield Wednesday
MK Dons lost at home for the first time when they were thrashed 4-1 by Sheffield Wednesday. MK Dons took the lead in the 6th minute but it all went downhill from there.
Jermaine Easter was again absent for MK Dons due to a thigh injury.
Notts County 0-1 Tranmere Rovers
Notts County are in the bottom four, three points behind Plymouth Argyle, after losing to Tranmere, who are now six points clear of trouble.
Ben Davies could have got a couple of goals for Notts County.
Ash Taylor made a surprise appearance on the bench for Tranmere. It was his first appearance in a Tranmere squad this season since having a knee operation in the summer.
Plymouth Argyle 1-2 Brentford
Brentford continue to improve as Plymouth go the other way.Another defeat and they could be in the bottom four – but only if Notts County win.
Carl Fletcher is still out with a leg injury.
Rochdale 3-3 Swindon Town
Swindon must have been feeling all hopeful after first they equalised and then, two minutes later, went ahead. But Rochdale scored five minutes later and the points were shared.
Nicky Adams started for Rochdale. Matt Done was on the bench.
Southampton 4-1 Peterborough United
Football doesn’t have wheels even when things are going well but if Peterborough did have wheels, perhaps they really would be coming off. It’s their second consecutive thrashing and they’re down to 11th, if only two points from the play-offs.
Lewin Nyatanga and Arron Davies both played the full match for Peterborough.
Walsall 2-1 Carlisle United

League One Fixtures/News 20th November 2010 (Part 2)

League One Results 13th November 2010 (Part 2)
Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Rochdale
Sheffield Wednesday’s victory over Rochdale was their third win in three matches.
Rochdale’s Welsh substitutions mirrored Cardiff’s Welsh substitutions even down to the time of substitution. After 71 minutes, Nicky Adams came off and Matt Done went on but Matt was not replacing Nicky.
Swindon Town 2-1 Colchester United
Swindon moved closer to the top half of the table after beating Colchester, who lost an away match for the first time this season.
No Welshmen in this game. Billy Bodin (Swindon) and Lee Beevers and Lloyd James (both Colchester) were all unusued substitutes.
Tranmere Rovers 1-0 Plymouth Argyle
Tranmere moved out of the relegation places with victory over Plymouth, who are ahead of them only on goal difference.
Tranmere are still without ankle injury victim Ash Taylor but he is back in training.
Carl Fletcher (Plymouth) is likely to be able to out with a leg injury for at least another fortnight.
Yeovil Town 1-3 Dagenham & Redbridge
Dag & Red moved ahead of Yeovil on goal difference after beating them 3-1, their first away win of the season.
Nathan Jones started for Yeovil. The assistant manager says he is proud to have more appearances with Yeovil than with any other club in his career.
Owain Tudur Jones played despite a recent thigh strain and got the assist but that probably wasn’t much of a consolation. Shaun MacDonald also started for Yeovil and came close to scoring. Gavin Williams was a late substitute.
Goalkeeper Tony Roberts was absent from Dag & Red’s squad due to an ankle injury. So they did especially well to win. But Dag & Red did have one Welsh player on the bench: Kayelden Brown, who has signed on loan from West Bromwich Albion. He has previously played on loan at Tranmere Rovers this season.

League One Results 30th October 2010 (Part 1)
Bournemouth 1-2 Colchester United
Bournemouth were unbeaten at home before this match while Colchester were unbeaten away and it was Colchester – who only recemtly lost their unbeaten home record – who came out on top.
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe’s comments suggested he thought Bournemouth had got a point. It would be lovely if he was right but he’s really kind of not. The FA change the rules every year but if they’d changed that one, I’m sure I’d know about it.

Lee Beevers and Lloyd James were both on the bench for Colchester, with Lee making another late appearance as a substitute.
Bristol Rovers 1-1 Carlisle United
When Bristol Rovers defender Danny Coles handled the ball in the penalty area stoppage time, Carlisle thought they’d snatched a win. Luckily for Bristol Rovers, their goalkeeper saved the penalty and the points were shared.
Byron Anthony played the full match for Bristol Rovers with Eliot Richards and Ben Swallow on the bench.
Dagenham & Redbridge 1-1 Hartlepool United
If Dag & Red want to stay in League One, they really ought to be beating their relegation rivals at home. And they could so easily have won this one without a stoppage-time own goal. It was a day for own goals – Dag & Red’s 49th-minute opener was scored by a Hartlepool player.
Tony Roberts was in goal for Dag & Red.

It could have been even worse for Exeter – their goalkeeper Paul Jones (not to be confused with former Welsh international keeper Paul Jones) saved two penalties.

League One Fixtures 2nd November 2010 (Part 2)
Plymouth Argyle v Bristol Rovers
Plymouth are only in the bottom four on goal difference but Bristol Rovers never do what you expect so Plymouth will fancy their chances. I won’t say how many of their last five matches Plymouth have won. There’s a Plymouth fan who reads my blog and I don’t want to put him off coming back.
Carl Fletcher could return to Plymouth’s starting line-up for this match. Not that he’s fit or anything, his ankle is still dodgy but Plymouth are desperate. Not as desperate as MK Dons but they are a bit short of players.
Byron Anthony will start for Bristol Rovers. Ben Swallow could get his first start of the season after playing well for the reserves. Eliot Richards will probably be on the bench.
Rochdale v Oldham Athletic
Rochdale and Oldham have identical away records. I’ve got a feeling this will no longer be the case after this match. Rochdale are three points from the play-offs… and three points from the relegation zone. That could change too.
Nicky Adams will hope to keep his place in Rochdale’s starting line-up. Matt Done hasn’t been in the starting line-up since Nicky arrived.
Joe Jacobson could be on the bench again for Oldham.

Byron Anthony made up for an own goal in his last match by getting a last-minute equaliser for Bristol Rovers. Ben Swallow made his first substitute appearance of the season while Eliot Richards stayed on the bench.

League One Results 16th October 2010 (Part 1)
Bournemouth 3-2 Milton Keynes Dons
The Football League’s two youngest managers met in what would be described as a promotion battle if the season were just a little bit older. Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe came out on top. Bournemouth continue their unbeaten home record.
Rhoys Wiggins was on the receiving end of the red-carded Angelo Balanta.s temper and MK Dons manager Karl Robinson believes Rhoys should have been off too. I think he kind of maybe had a point as Rhoys did raise his hand which could be construed as an attempt to strike his opponent – but it looked more like an ‘oh go away you silly boy’ gesture than an attempt to hit him and at least Rhoys didn’t push anyone. And there is something to be said for not sending them both to the dressing room together.
Joe Partington stayed out of trouble on the bench.
Jermaine Easter started for MK Dons but that elusive league goal just wouldn’t come.
Bristol Rovers 2-1 Rochdale
Bristol Rovers beating Rochdale might not sound like much but when you remember they’re at opposite ends of the same division, with Bristol Rovers the lower of the two, then it becomes a much better result.
Byron Anthony and Nicky Adams proved to be a good team, with Nicky’s pass headed into the net by Byron. What a shame they weren’t actually on the same side. But other than that moment it was a great performance from both players, with Byron the stand-out player for Bristol Rovers (and mostly for good reasons) and Nicky making an immediate impression on his second debut for Rochdale..
Matt Done was a late substitute for Rochdale although he still had time to hit the post but Bristol Rovers’ subs Ben Swallow and Eliot Richards stayed on the bench.
Dagenham & Redbridge 1-1 Walsall
Dagenham & Redbridge were the stronger side in the second half and looked the more likely to snatch all three points. But they didn’t so both teams were in the relegation zone when the matches drew to a close.
Tony Roberts played in goal for Dagenham & Redbridge.
Sean Geddes was missing from Walsall’s squad for the second consecutive match. I hope he hasn’t gone on loan somewhere without telling me.
The Football League’s two youngest managers met in what would be described as a promotion battle if the season were just a little bit older. Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe came out on top. Bournemouth continue their unbeaten home record.
Rhoys Wiggins was on the receiving end of the red-carded Angelo Balanta.s temper and MK Dons manager Karl Robinson believes Rhoys should have been off too. I think he kind of maybe had a point as Rhoys did raise his hand which could be construed as an attempt to strike his opponent – but it looked more like an ‘oh go away you silly boy’ gesture than an attempt to hit him and at least Rhoys didn’t push anyone. And there is something to be said for not sending them both to the dressing room together.
Joe Partington stayed out of trouble on the bench.
Jermaine Easter started for MK Dons but that elusive league goal just wouldn’t come.
Bristol Rovers 2-1 Rochdale
Bristol Rovers beating Rochdale might not sound like much but when you remember they’re at opposite ends of the same division, with Bristol Rovers the lower of the two, then it becomes a much better result.
Byron Anthony and Nicky Adams proved to be a good team, with Nicky’s pass headed into the net by Byron. What a shame they weren’t actually on the same side. But other than that moment it was a great performance from both players, with Byron the stand-out player for Bristol Rovers (and mostly for good reasons) and Nicky making an immediate impression on his second debut for Rochdale..
Matt Done was a late substitute for Rochdale although he still had time to hit the post but Bristol Rovers’ subs Ben Swallow and Eliot Richards stayed on the bench.
Dagenham & Redbridge 1-1 Walsall
Dagenham & Redbridge were the stronger side in the second half and looked the more likely to snatch all three points. But they didn’t so both teams were in the relegation zone when the matches drew to a close.
Tony Roberts played in goal for Dagenham & Redbridge.
Sean Geddes was missing from Walsall’s squad for the second consecutive match. I hope he hasn’t gone on loan somewhere without telling me.

Welsh Player News 15th October 2010 (League One)
Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale says Daniel Nardiello should be fit for Saturday’s match against Carlisle United.
Rob Edwards is expected to play in defence for Exeter City against his former club Carlisle United. He says this will make his return to the starting line-up even more special.
Goalkeeper and General Manager Andy Marriott is the ambassador for Yeovil Town’ One Game One Community project, which promotes the fact that everyone is different... but we’re also all the same.
Ben Davies is concerned about his back and hamstring but he says it’s worse for two of his team-mates, who are also injured and haven’t been able to train. Notts County manager Craig Short is worried Ben might jump out of the transfer window. Probably not the best idea with his hamstring…
Oldham Athletic chairman Simon Corney says four transfer-listed players have refused moves to League Two or Blue Square Premier sides. He doesn’t name names but there are only five remaining transfer-listed players so there’s a very good chance Joe Jacobson is one of those who has refused a move. I thought Joe did well for Oldham up until his injury so I can’t really blame him if he does feel he should be playing in League One.
Brentford’s Nicky Adams has joined Rochdale on loan just two months after joining Brentford from Leicester City. The move will be made permanent in January. Poor Nicky but Rochdale are better than Brentford at the moment so maybe he’s not too disappointed. Nicky first played for Rochdale on loan from Leicester City in 2009. Nicky says the stop-start nature of his time at Brentford was disappointing but Brentford manager Andy Scott says the problem was that Nicky couldn’t settle in London and it was affecting him in matches and in training. Perhaps both are true. While Nicky did play well for Leyton Orient last year, that was a short-term move and he didn’t move to Orient on a permanent basis, even though they were interested.
Let's hope Nicky's time at Rochdale makes a nice birthday present for him - he is twenty-four today. Happy Birthday!

League One Fixtures 16th October 2010 Part 3
Peterborough United v Swindon Town
Peterborough bring an almost perfect home record to this match against Swindon, who will be anxious to add to their solitary away win.
Arron Davies will probably start for Peterborough but he might be on the bench (just covering all possible angles here).
Billy Bodin could be on the bench for Swindon again.
Tranmere Rovers v Brentford
Brentford haven’t won away this season, partly because they’ve only scored one goal, which would tend to restrict you where winning is concerned. Tranmere will be hoping to double their current tally of home wins.
Ash Taylor isn’t ready to return from his knee injury for Tranmere.
Nicky Adams won’t be playing for Brentford as he has joined Rochdale on loan. No disrespect to Brentford but I think moving to Rochdale counts as moving up in the world these days.

So how many divisions apart were these two teams fifteen years ago? I make it five. Yeovil had just been relegated from the Conference and would go on to finish fourth at the end of the season, six points away from promotion. Sheffield Wednesday would go on to survive relegation from the Premier League by just two points but even so, they were five whole leagues apart and probably never dreamed that, fifteen years later, the two of them would be in the same division, with Sheffield Wednesday just three points the better off.
Gavin Williams has been playing through an ongoing injury and it looks like he’ll have to carry on doing that. Shaun MacDonald returns to Yeovil days after making his debut for Wales but unlike a lot of Welsh players, he seems to be in good shape. Touch wood. Owain Tudur Jones completes the trio of Welsh loanee midfielders and I’d expect them all to start.

MK Dons aim to improve on their one away league win when they face a club that have won five of their home games – and drawn the other one.
Rhoys Wiggins should start for Bournemouth. Joe Partington might be on the bench again.
Jermaine Easter will hope to have another 90 minutes in which to attempt to find his first league goal of the season.
Bristol Rovers v Rochdale
A win for Rochdale could in theory put them into the top two. It’s not likely and it’s probably impossible but what a position for Rochdale to be in. Bristol Rovers have struggled for consistency… or so it’s seemed. But a look at the league table shows they have got two home wins, two home defeats, two away wins, two away draws and two away defeats. They have just the one home draw so maybe they’ll balance things out against Rochdale.

League One News 11th August 2010
Nicky Adams says a knee injury and the loss of his medical notes are to blame for his shaky beginning at Brentford.
Carlisle United striker Jason Price was not impressed with his performance against Port Vale in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, despite scoring his first goal of the season.
A number of reports claim that Exeter City goalkeeper Andy Marriott requires groin surgery but they actually mean Mansfield keeper Alan Marriott. The real Andy Marriott is almost certainly still at Exeter, giving new goalkeeper Artur Krysial advice.
Milton Keynes Dons manager Karl Robinson is supporting Jermaine Easter through his goal drought. Jermaine’s team-mate Mathias Doumbe also has positive words for the striker.
Carl Fletcher has won the Vital Plymouth Argyle Goal of the Month competition. Not that he's been able to celebrate with his team-mates. Carl has been training alone as jury service prevents him from attending training with his team-mates. And I bet he's glad to have a bit of peace and quiet after spending hours locked up with his fellow jurors.
