Derby County 3-0 Preston North End
Preston were unbeaten in their last three and are steadily improving but Derby were unbeaten in four and had improved even more.
Derby’s final goal, a penalty, was scored by Robbie Savage, in his 600th career appearance. He had a great game. I hope you were watching, Brian Flynn. Congratulations, Robbie, and Happy 26th Birthday for yesterday. Yes, that’s right, Brian, he’s only 26. Easily young enough to play for Wales. And Wales do need a good penalty taker…
Gareth Roberts has recovered from his calf injury but he was only on the bench for Derby.
Craig Morgan played the full match for Preston with Paul Parry coming off the bench in the 79th minute
Ipswich Town 1-2 Coventry City
Coventry are behind Ipswich only on goal difference after beating them at Portman Road for the first time since 1994.
Troy Brown was on the bench for Ipswich.
Coventry were without the injured Freddy Eastwood.
Leicester City 1-1 Hull City
Sven Goran-Eriksson didn’t help Leicester to the win they needed but at least he can say he’s unbeaten.
Andy King put Leicester ahead after just three minutes.
Middlesbrough 1-2 Leeds United
This result proved the final straw for Middlesbrough manager Gordon Strachan, who allegedly tore up his contract and walked out earlier today. He should know better at his age. Boro are now just two points above the relegation zone.
Danny Coyne was on the bench for Middlesbrough but maybe not for much longer.
Jason Brown played in goal for Leeds and I’d like to say he was brilliant but unfortunately Boro didn’t give him much to do.
Sanchez Watt got an assist for Leeds for the second consecutive game.
Portsmouth 3-2 Watford
Watford lost an away match for the first time this season as Portsmouth continued their rise up the Championship table. Watford were 2-1 ahead in the 69th minute but there were two more goals to come and unfortunately none of them were scored by Watford.
Jonathan Bond was on the bench for Watford.
Queen’s Park Rangers 0-0 Norwich City
Norwich are doing well but until this match, only one team had taken points off QPR at Loftus Road. And now it’s two – although they are still yet to concede a goal. Norwich could have grabbed all three when they were awarded a penalty but Wes Hoolahan, who has been excellent for Norwich this season, shot wide.
Only a last-ditch clearance from Andrew Crofts prevented QPR from getting all three points. Again.
