FA Cup Results 6th November 2010 (Part 3)

Gillingham 0-2 Dover Athletic
Dover were out for revenge. Gillingham had taken two of their managers, their youth team coach and one of their best players. But it was Dover who went through to the second round of the FA Cup.
Adam Birchall has scored no fewer than nine goals in the FA Cup this season. I didn’t see the first eight but his ninth was spectacular.

Guiseley 0-5 Crawley Town
No giant-killing here but we still have another non-league side in the second round of the FA Cup. The winner came from Torres. Liverpool must have been jealous. But only for twenty-four hours.
Glenn Wilson wasn’t in Crawley’s squad due to a hamstring problem.

Harrow Borough 0-2 Chesterfield
Chesterfield are at the top of League Two for a reason and, unlike many clubs, they weren’t about to be caught out by their non-league opponents. But the fact they only scored two probably means that Harrow did a pretty good job.
Substitute Craig Davies made the game safe only in the 93rd minute.

Hartlepool United 0-0 Vauxhall Motors
And another non-league side force a replay against League One opponents. It could have been a lot worse for Hartlepool but luckily when Vauxhall scored, it was offside.
Rob Marsh-Evans wasn’t playing for Vauxhall Motors because he’s gone back to parent club Southport.

Havant & Waterloovilw 0-2 Droylsden
No dazzling Cup run for Havant this season – not unless Droylsden made the same mistake as they did against Chesterfield two years ago.

Hereford Town 5-1 Hythe Town
Hythe, the lowerst-ranked team in the first round proper, became the second team in three matches to concede five against Hereford. But the difference between Hythe and Stockport County is that Hereford didn’t keep a clean sheet aganst Hythe.
Stuart Fleetwood finally got the start that he should have got weeks ago. He got the assist for the third goal, then scored the fifth. Ryan Green played at centre back but Ryan Valentine was unselected.

Macclesfield Town 2-2 Southend United
Macclesfield and Southend prepare for the second of four meetings between these sides this season.
Sam Wedgbury was on the bench for Macclesfield.
Southend were without Peter Gilbert, who was suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card. He was disappointed about missing this FA Cup match but Southend kindly ensured he would be playing in the first round after all.

Mansfield Town 0-1 Torquay United
Mansfield were very disappointed to lose after holding League Two’s Torquay at bay for 87 minutes.
Rhys Day couldn’t play for Mansfield following a red card in a previous game. Matt Somner also couldn’t play as he seems to be on loan at Altrincham.

Notts County 2-0 Gateshead
Gateshead might have harboured hopes of taking advantage of Notts County while things were in disarray following the shock sacking of one manager and very quick appointment of another.
Unfortunately, Notts County had other ideas. Ben Davies scored the penalty to put them 1-0 up.

Plymouth Argyle 0-4 Swindon Town
Swindon looked more like the play-off finalists they were last year than a team not all that far above Plymouth and the relegation places.
Carl Fletcher is still out for Plymouth with a leg injury.

League Two Results 1st May Part 2

Dagenham & Redbridge 2-1 Hereford United
Dag & Red will go into the last game of the season in the seventh automatic promotion place after they beat Hereford. Hereford probably thought they were going to get a point out of this but Dagenham got a winner in the 93rd minute.
Tony Roberts hada great game in goal for Dagenham.
Ryan Green got the assist for Hereford’s goal. Ryan Valentine and Darren Jones also played in defence with Craig Jones on the bench.

Macclesfield Town 0-2 Darlington
It hasn’t been a great season for Darlington but things have picked up for them lately and when they do win, they really seem to enjoy it.
Matthew Tipton played the full match for Macclesfield and nearly got an assist.

Notts County 5-0 Cheltenham Town
Notts County win 5-0 for the second consecutive match. Cheltenham still have a small chance of relegation.
Ben Davies was as usual very active for Notts County, getting the assists for the first two goals before scoring the third. Ben is hoping Steve Cotterill will continue as Notts’ manager next season, even though Cotterill thinks the third goal wasn’t really Ben’s.
Josh Low played the full match for Cheltenham.

Rochdale 1-2 Burton Albion
Rochdale must be feeling glad they’re already promoted although this latest defeat means the drop to third as Bournemouth overtake them. Burton still have a small chance of a top-half finish. It’s Burton’s first win since beating Accrington Stanley more than a month ago.
Tony James was back in defence for Burton after being rested against Bournemouth.

Shrewsbury Town 2-3 Morecambe
Shrewsbury fought back to bring the scores level after Morecambe had taken an early 2-0 lead but Morecambe got the winner and Shrewsbury’s admittedly small hopes of the play-offs are now completely gone. Just like their manager.
Tom Bradshaw came off Shrewsbury’s bench on 33 minutes and played a key role in their fightback, claiming the assist for their first goal before scoring the second. Let’s hope he has a big part to play for Shrewsbury next season – and that he can be persuaded to represent Wales, the country of his compulsory education, rather then England! Tom has three goals and an assist from his last four appearances – which have all been from the bench.
Darren Moss got another start after his stunning goal in the last match. He didn’t get another one but he was on the winning side.

I was reading an old Four Four Two today which had a feature on the best 50 players in the Football League.

Jason Koumas was named asas the best player. Gareth Bale was third (in fifth is Giles Barnes, who has played 24 games in the Premier League without winning).
Robert Earnshaw was 9th and Freddy Eastwood 11th.
Boaz Myhill, Joe Ledley and Jermaine Easter are in the Top 50.
Andy Marriott, Robert Page, Matt Sommer and Mark Jones are among those who just missed out.

FA Cup Results November 7th 2009 Part 1

In all my other posts I did it properly with the results and stuff but I didn't for this one and I can't be arsed to go through and change them all. But if you badly want the exact results you can probably google them.

Levi Mackin was on the bench as non-league York City beat Crewe Alexandra 2-0.
Chris Jones came on for Grimsby in the 83rd minute but he was too late to save his team from being giant-killed by non-league Bath City.
Shaun MacDonald was also the victim of a giant killing as the Blue Square Premier’s Oxford United beat Yeovil Town 1-0.
Poor Lewis Price scored an own goal to put Gateshead into the lead in the 57th minute. Brentford got it back to 2-1 but then Lewis let in another goal in the third minute of extra time. I’m sure he’ll make up for it in the replay but right now I just want to give him a hug.
Gareth Owen and Lewis Haldane played the whole game for Port Vale, but they could only manage a draw against Stevenage.
Robert Duffy was on the pitch and Matt Sommer was on the bench as Mansfield forced a replay against Forest Green Rovers.
Andrew Crofts played for Brighton & Hove Albion who drew with Wycombe Wanderers
Norwich City were only 3-0 up when Welsh boyos Owain Tudur Jones and Rhoys Wiggins came off the bench but the final result was a very cruel 7-0 win against Paulton, the lowest-ranked team in the first round.
