League One
Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale was impressed with the performance of his 37 year old assistant manager Rob Edwards when he made his third start of the season against his former side Carlisle United. Rob’s defensive partner Billy Jones also had some good words to say about Rob and Vital Exeter City agrees that Rob has still got it.
Daniel Nardiello had a feeling Exeter could beat Carlisle – it’s just a shame he stayed on the bench and missed the whole thing. But as he says, it just shows how strong Exeter are up front.
League Two
Chesterfield striker Craig Davies has been nominated for the PFA Fans’ League Two Player of the Month award.
Stuart Fleetwood says Hereford United need to stop making so many errors. He can’t come off the bench and inspire a fightback every week. But other than that, he was delighted with the 4-3 victory over Northampton Town.
Rhys Day was thrilled to get an ovation from Mansfield Town supporters when he returned to his former club on loan from Oxford United. He also hinted that the move could become permanent. He nearly marked his debut with a goal but unfortunately Mansfield could only draw when home side Darlington scored a late equaliser.
Gareth Owen says that in order to end their winless run, the Port Vale players must stick together. But maybe the fans’ expectations are just a tiny bit too high.
Scotland
Joe Ledley was delighted when Celtic won their eighth successive game of the season against Dundee United.
Rhys Weston speaks of his personal devastation following the likely demise of his club Dundee.

Switzerland v Wales News 10th October 2010
Goalkeepers: Jonathan Bond (Watford), David Cornell (Swansea City), Wayne Hennessey (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Boaz Myhill (West Bromwich Albion)
Defenders: Danny Collins (Stoke City), James Collins (Aston Villa), Christian Ribeiro (Bristol City), Ashley Williams (Swansea City), Adam Matthews (Cardiff City), Neil Taylor (Swansea City), Darcy Blake (Cardiff City), Rhoys Wiggins (AFC Bournemouth)
Midfielders: Joe Allen (Swansea City), Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur), Dave Edwards (Wolves), Andy King (Leicester), Shaun MacDonald (Yeovil Town, on loam from Swansea City), Jazz Richards (Swansea City), David Vaughan (Blackpool)
Forwards: Simon Church (Reading), Ryan Doble (Southampton), Ched Evans (Sheffield United), Steve Morison (Millwall)
Those of you who did more than glance briefly at the squad list might have noticed that there are a few players missing. And a few players added. It doesn’t look good but at the same time, it’s great to see all the new players coming into the Wales squad. Let’s hope they have a good experience, whatever the result. (Now if only the fans can have a good experience too.)
If Wales only get a point, qualification will look even more impossible. But at least they’ll be better than Spain. (We Welsh fans have to take enjoyment where we can find it.)
Joe Ledley has withdrawn from the squad as his partner Ruby is expecting their first child on Tuesday. And I can’t really argue with that but in a way it’s a shame fans weren’t made aware of it before. Maybe not all fans are like me but I prefer to have a bit of notice. Maybe not the full nine months Joe would have had but last week would have been good. But anyway, this only gives us more reason to win. Joe’s baby will be born in Scotland and will be eligible to represent that country if he wants to. It’s up to Wales to do all they can to ensure he doesn’t want to.
Chris Gunter and Sam Ricketts are both suspended, following Chris’ red card and Sam’s second yellow. Darcy Blake is expected to make a deserved Wales debut – Christian Ribeiro and Adam Matthews are also options for the right back position.
Wales wouldn’t be Wales without more injuries. Hal Robson-Kanu was only on the field for five minutes (or rather eight minutes plus stoppage time) but it was still long enough to injure his hamstring.
Brian Flynn has called up a few extra players to replace the injured, suspended and expecting. Left back Rhoys Wiggins of Bournemouth, who has had a great start to the season, was saying only last month that he would love to get into the Wales squad. Well, Rhoys – here you are. He will be joined in the squad by two Swansea Cuty players: Shaun MacDonald, captain of the Wales under-21s, currently on loan at Yeovil Town, and Jazz Richards, also an under-21 international.
Ashley Williams hopes Wales will bounce back from their defeat to Bulgaria. Sam Ricketts believes they can do it. David Vaughan feels their qualification hopes could already be over.
Robbie Savage's desperation to play for Wales has reached new heights. Whilst interviewing Brian Flynn, Robbie heard the team would need new full backs and he immediately jumped in to offer his services. I think it's great to see him showing such enthusiasm for his country and I wouldn't say that all the other midfielders who have been called up to play for Wales have done better than Robbie this season.
I suppose it's possible that Brian wants to go with the players he's seen recently - all the midfielders involved have been part of either the senior or under-21 teams in the past few months. As Brian was only recently appointed manager of the Welsh national team and was formerly in charge of players eligible for the under-21 team, he would have had no reason to watch Robbie (although he'd have missed a treat if he had. Even when Robbie plays badly, which doesn't happen often, his hair still looks amazing).
Danny Collins and Rhoys Wiggins are the only members of the squad who haven't played for Wales recently and they have had more recent experience of playing full-back then Robbie. If it was in goal where they had the problem, I'm sure Brian would have been straight on the phone.
Ashley Williams will be the next player to end his international career with Wales. But don’t worry. It’s not that one. It’s the Airbus UK one who will soon be too old to play for the Wales under-23 semi-professional side. He's not as old as Michael Pearson though. (Michael was really born in 1988.)

Wales International News 18th September 2010
We’ve known about this for ages but Brian Flynn is now officially Wales’ manager for the next two matches. And only fifteen years after he should have been given the job. Brian would like to be offered the job 'permanently' after the qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland.
If Brian doesn’t hang onto the job, Wrexham manager Dean Saunders is waiting in the wings.
Brian Flynn suggests that Craig Bellamy won’t necessarily be Wales’ captain anymore – but he is very important to Wales. Joe Ledley and Ashley Williams are possibilities for the armband.
Brian Flynn doesn’t want his players to be too cautious against Bulgaria and Switzerland.
Aaron Ramsey has vowed to play his very best for Wales when he returns from injury.
Cardiff City manager Dave Jones feels he should have withdrawn Craig Bellamy from Wales’ match against Montenegro. Craig has missed Cardiff’s last two matches with his recurring knee problems.
Brian Flynn has admitted defeat in his mission to persuade Ryan Giggs to play for Wales again. Blame Ryan’s manager, not Ryan. But he is off to Blackburn Rovers today to see Fulham’s Simon Davies. He’s not interested in any of the other retired players though although they can call him if they’re interested in returning for Wales. I can kind of see why he doesn’t want to phone them all as there are loads of them but I can’t blame any players who feel it’s not quite right to go ringing the national team manager and asking to be put in the team.
Of the younger players, Adam Matthews is thought to be in line for a promotion to the senior Wales squad. Chris Gunter and Sam Ricketts currently play in his right back position but one of them will play left back if Gareth Bale is pushed forwards into midfield. Adam has also played in central midfield for Cardiff, an area in which Wales are quite week.
Rotherham United midfielder Mark Bradley is delighted by the news that Brian Flynn is interested in managing Wales permanently. Mark thinks Brian likes him so he fancies his chances of playing in the full Wales squad.

Welsh Player news 18th September 2010 (League One, League Two, Scotland)
League One
Colchester United defender Lee Beevers will miss the next three or four weeks after hurting himself on his child’s pram. Yes, a pram. In a particularly painful, er, twist on Liam Lawrence’s ‘tripping over the dog’ incident, Lee tripped whilst carrying a pushchair downstairs and the nasty evil thing trapped and injured his hand. He is continuing to train but the plaster cast on his hand makes him a danger to his team-mates.
Tony Roberts is the epitome of being a Dagger.
Shaun MacDonald believes loan club Yeovil Town will beat Huddersfield Town.
League Two
Lewis Haldane is now back in training for Port Vale after recovering from an infected insect bite. Manager Micky Adams says Lewis should be available to play again in a month’s time but he has to build up some match fitness first.
Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner says Tom Bradshaw has a big future. Tom hasn’t played in League Two yet this season but he scored on his debut last season before doing the same in his Wales under-19 debut. Tom is very excited about his Wales goal and he thoroughly enjoyed playing for his country. Let’s hope Brian Flynn can give Tom a competitive cap for Wales before England start sniffing round.
Scotland
It sounds as though Grant Basey won’t be able to play for Aberdeen after all as they still don’t have enough money to pay his wages. No news on what he’s going to do instead.
Joe Ledley hopes that the Champions’ League will distract Rangers from winning the League so Celtic can have the title again.

Welsh Summer Transfers 2010 (Championship, B-D)
Barnsley
Welsh Players: None
Bristol City
Gavin Williams was rumoured to be leaving Bristol City after not being a regular in the starting line-up. He didn’t go anywhere and he’s still not a regular in the team.
The Daily Mail ran a story about Michael Owen signing on loan but I never really believed that one.
Bristol City signed Brett Pitman from Bournemouth on a three-year contract after the striker turned down the chance to join Premier League Blackpool.
Sam Vokes signed on loan from Wolverhampton on a five-month loan
Welsh Players: Five and a half - Lewin Nyatanga, Christian Ribeiro, James Wilson, Gavin Williams, Sam Vokes and Brett Pitman (who might choose to represent a different country)
Burnley
Welsh Players: None
Cardiff City
Joe Ledley spent months dithering over his new contract because he wanted to play in the Premier League. When Cardiff lost the play-off final, he was expected to join clubs including Everton, Stoke City, Sunderland, West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Celtic, Rangers, Roma, Panathanaikos, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce but only one club could have him and the lucky team was Celtic. Joe signed a four-year deal.
When Craig Bellamy said he was interested in signing for hometown club Cardiff City, no-one took him too seriously. They all say that and how could Cardiff possibly afford him? Well they can’t afford either him or his wages but Man City are paying most of his wages while he plays for Cardiff on a season-long loan. Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and Celtic were all disappointed to miss out.
Aaron Morris was released by Cardiff City and had a trial at Exeter City before signing for Aldershot Town.
Jonathan Meades signed his first professional contract, then joined Norway’s FK Moss on a short-term loan.
Welsh Players: Four and two halves - Darcy Blake, Adam Matthews, Jason Koumas, Craig Bellamy and Aaron Wildig (who wants to play for Wales but currently isn't eligble), Jonathan Meades (out on loan but wouldn't have much involvement in the first team if he was here).
Coventry City
Welsh Players: One - Freddy Eastwood
Crystal Palace
Andy Dorman wanted to play in the English league system as he hoped this would increase his chances of playing for Wales. So St Mirren had no choice but to let him go when his contract came to an end. Several clubs showed an interest, Andy signed for Crystal Palace on a three-year deal… and was left out of the very next Wales squad. He’s back in now though.
Lewis Price was released by Derby County following a season-long loan to Brentford where he often didn’t even make the bench. He is now at Crystal Palace on a three-year contract following a successful trial.
Welsh Players: Two - Lewis Price, Andy Dorman
Derby County
Lewis Price spent last season at Brentford but they had too many loanees and Lewis often found himself out of the squad. He was released by Derby on his return but now he’s at Crystal Palace.
Gareth Roberts signed for Derby from Doncaster Rovers on a two-year deal.
Derby wanted to sign Ben Davies from Notts County. He said he’d love to play in the Championship but he didn’t want to leave Bournemouth just now.
Welsh Players: Two - Gareth Roberts, Robbie Savage
Doncaster Rovers
Brian Stock attracted the attention of Southampton and Swansea City but he stayed at Doncaster.
John Oster signed a new two-year contract.
Gareth Roberts left Doncaster when his contract expired n 1st July and signed for Derby County.
Welsh Players: Two - John Oster, Brian Stock

Welsh Summer Transfers 2010 (Premier League,W)
West Bromwich Albion
West Brom paid £1.5 million to sign goalkeeper Boaz Myhill from financially-troubled Hull City on a three-year contract. For now he is the back-up goalkeeper but Bo has plans to change that.
Kayleden Brown was sent to Tranmere Rovers one a one-month loan deal.
Welsh Players: One - Boaz Myhill, plus Kayleden Browm (out on loan)
West Ham United
Danny Gabbidon was rumoured to have attracted the attention of Blackpool but they must have been wary of his injury problems as no move was made as far as I know.
West Ham wanted Joe Ledley just like pretty much every other club but he went to Celtic instead.
Welsh Players: Two - Danny Gabbidon, Jack Collison
Wigan Athletic
It was reported that Jason Koumas had been released by Wigan but that can’t be true as he has now joined Cardiff City on a season-long loan from Wigan.
Welsh Players: None, plus Jason Koumas (out on loan)
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wayne Hennessey attracted the attention of Liverpool and Burnley (one club apparently made a £2 million bid) and he was rumoured to be on his way to both but instead he signed a new five-year ontract with Wolves. They rewarded him by giving his No. 1 shirt to Marcus Hahnemann.
David Jones was coming to the end of a contract and he still hasn’t signed a new one but I think his current one has a while to run yet. Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United were all said to be interested in signing him.
Sam Vokes was linked with the exit door and with loan moves with Crystal Palace said to be interested. But Sam signed a new contract with Wolves and Mick McCarthy said he wasn’t going anywhere and there had been no interest in taking him on loan. Hours later, it was announced that Sam would play on loan at Bristol City until January 5th.
Jake Cassidy joined Wolves on a two-year deal this close season. He was at Llandudno Junction a short time ago, then he signed for Airbus UK but he left for Wolves without having played a competitive fixture.
And let’s not forget Joe Ledley – Wolves wanted him too. But he didn’t fancy England and went to Celtic instead.
Welsh Players: Two and three halves - Wayne Hennessey, Dave Edwards, Sam Vokes (out on loan), David Jones (wants to play for England), Jake Cassidy (unlikely to be considered for the first team

Welsh Summer Transfers 2010 (Premier League,S-T)
Stoke City
Manchester United were rumoured to want Ryan Shawcross back but they didn’t get him. Tottenham were also interested.
Danny Collins was also linked with the exit door after not being a regular last season but he didn’t go either.
Stoke were one of many clubs who wanted to sign Joe Ledley. At one point they were the favourites and Neville Southall told them to make a bid but Joe went to Celtic instead.
Stoke, like a lot of clubs, wanted Swansea City’s Ashley Williams but they didn’t get him either.
Tony Pulis was suggested as a possible contender to manage Wales but he says he hasn’t finished his job at Stoke yet.
Welsh Players: One and a half - Danny Collins and Ryan Shawcross (who wants to play for England)
Sunderland
Sunderland were yet another club who wanted Joe Ledley but he chose to go to Celtic.
Welsh Players: None
Tottenham Hotspur
Gareth Bale signed a new four-year contract at the end of last season but that didn’t stop the likes of Real Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Ajax getting their hopes up. But Gareth wasn’t going anywhere.
Tottenham were linked with Craig Bellamy but I don’t think anyone paid too much attention as he’s always linked with them. Craig is now at Cardiff City on loan from Manchester City.
Tottenham were also interested in Boaz Myhill but he went to West Bromwich Albion instead.
Ryan Shawcross was also thought to be on Tottenham’s radar when they were a bit short of centre backs.

Welsh Summer Transfers 2010 (Premier League, E-N)
Everton
Everton were linked with Cardiff City midfielder Joe Ledley, now with Celtic.
Welsh Players: None
Fulham
Simon Davies recently signed a new three-year contract with the club and says he wishes to remain there for the rest of his career.
Mark Hughes became manager of Fulham during the close season. It was his first job since being sacked by Manchester City early in the season although he was recently offered the chance to manage Al Ahi in Dubai. Liverpool were also rumouored to be interested. He later must have terrified Fulham when it was reported he might leave them for Aston Villa. But as far as I know he’s still at Fulham now.
Mark wanted to sign Craig Bellamy, who played for him at Manchester City but Craig wanted to go to Cardiff and Man City didn’t want him to go to a Premier League rival which is a compliment to Fulham in a way.
Boaz Myhill was also linked to Fulham.
Reece Jones was released by Fulham and later joined (sort-of) local rivals AFC Wimbledon.
Welsh Players: One - Simon Davies
Liverpool
Mark Hughes was said to be a contender to replace Rafa Benitez as manager of Liverpool but it didn’t happen. Liverpool appointed Fulham’s manager instead and Mark went to Fulham.
Michael Owen was linked with a move back to the club with whom he began his career but I don’t think anyone took it seriously. He stayed at Man Utd.
Welsh Players: None
Manchester City
There were strong rumours that Craig Bellamy would not be included in Manchester City’s 25-man squad for the new season. Craig said that if he did leave the club, he wanted to play for his hometown club, Cardiff City. No-one took this too seriously but Craig has now joined Cardiff on a season-long loan and he said he’d love to stay longer if he can help Cardiff to promotion. Tottenham were interested in Craig but they’re not his hometown club so they stood no chance.
Welsh Players: None, plus Craig Bellamy (out on loan)
Manchester United
There were some very strange rumours about Michael Owen leaving Man Utd for former club Liverpool or signing for Bristol City on loan but he stayed where he was.
Owen Hargreaves’ Man Utd future was thought to be in doubt in doubt after his knee injury flared up again.
The Sun ran a story claiming that Ryan Giggs could end his career in America. As I said, it did come from the Sun.
Welsh players: One and two halves - Ryan Giggs, Owen Hargreaves, Michael Owen (the last two of whom chose to play for England)
Newcastle United
Welsh Players: None

Scottish Premier League Results 22nd August 2010
Celtic 4-0 St Mirren
Joe Ledley played at left back again, even though he doesn’t like it, and it didn’t seem to hamper him too much as he scored his first Ceutc goal in an entertaining but rather one-sided match
Hibernian 0-3 Rangers
Celtic might be back to their old selves but Rangers are going to battle them all the way. David Stephens sat on the bench for the losing side.
Kilmarnock 0-1 Motherwell
Kyle Letheren could be wondering he did the right thing after this match. After spending some time with Motherwell, he decided to play for Kilmarnock this season. But maybe Kilmarnock could try playing him. It might work.

Scottish Premier League Fixtures 22nd August 2010
Celtic v St Mirren
Celtic will be joint top of the league if they win this match. St Mirren too are unbeaten but they haven’t actually won yet and Celtic Park isn’t the easiest place to get three points.
Joe Ledley should start for Celtic but St Mirren won’t have Andy Dorman because he plays for Crystal Palace now.
Hibernian v Rangers
Hibernain were in third place in the League – but now they face the Champions.
David Stephens will probably be on the bench for Hibernian.
Kilmarnock v Motherwell
Both teams are in search of their first point – and by the end of this match, neither team will be pointless.
Kyle Letheren will probably be on the bench as his new club Kilmarnock face his former club Motherwell.

Welsh Player News 21st August (League Two, Scotland)
Peter Gilbert is really looking forward to getting back to full fitness and making his Southend United debut. His injury was attained not on a football pitch but falling off the side of one.
Stockport County manager Paul Simpson thinks Owain fon Williams could become one of the best goalkeepers in the Football League. No arguments from me.
Joe Ledley is very excited about being a Celtic player after they beat Utrecht in the Europa League. Joe made his first ever appearance as a left back but he hopes he won’t have to do it too often.

Europa League Fixtures 19th August 2010
Rapid Vienna v Aston Villa
James Collins is in Villa’s squad to face Rapid Vienna but that’s the Irish one, not the Welsh one. The Welsh James Collins is still out with a calf injury and is one of a number of senior players who won’t play. Elliot Parish, eligible to play for Wales but one of those who would rather play for England, is also in the squad.

Wales v Luxembourg Match Report
Wales v Luxembourg
I was hoping to be able to write a really interesting review of all the goals as seen from my point of view. But unfortunately I made a detour to the first aid room which was supposed to be very brief but the first aiders decided the dizziness I was suffering was a heart problem (which it wasn’t) and they sent me to hospital which meant I had to MISS the rest of the match! While waiting for the ambulance, I kept asking the first-aiders to check the score for me and every time they went out, another goal was scored. I thought they were joking the first few times!
Any anxiety on my part could be because I seemed to have jinxed Gareth Bale, as if the poor boy hasn’t already had enough jinxes in his life. I saw his car go past me and assumed he was fit to play. Not only that, I posted it on the Internet. Then I got to the stadium and he wasn’t in the squad. Oops.
Annoyingly the bits I saw mostly took place at the other end of the stadium but I did get a good view of Wayne Hennessey, Chris Gunter at left back, and Aaron Ramsey whom I walked past on the way to the first aid room. Naturally I had to walk back again and have a good stare to check it was him (it was) but I didn’t speak to him in case I fainted and he started thinking he was all irresistible like a lot of footballers seem to think they are.
The fact that most of the action was at the other end of the pitch was a good sign. Craig Bellamy was the stand-out player but all the attacking players looked good. The presence of Steve Morison really seemed to make a difference, even if all he was doing was making the others work extra hard so they didn’t get shown up by a player who was playing non-league football just over a year ago.
David Cotterill soon confirmed my view that he should have been in the squad to start with (not often I get to be right, let me enjoy it) when he scored a stunning goal that didn’t quite come out of nowhere given Wales’ threat but it was still a lovely shock when it happened. Wales were ahead after 35 minutes.
The equaliser was unfortunate but it really looked as though it was going over the go and Wayne Hennessey probably thought the same but then at the last moment it dipped under the bar and went into the back of the net. I hate horrible sneaky goals like that. Especially when they happen just a minute before half-time and there’s no chance to restore the advantage.
As for the rest, I didn’t see it but I was thrilled to hear about it later. Joe Ledley’s 48th-minute penalty means we have now scored two penalties in a row and after missing three in a row, that really is something of a relief. Andy King’s goal in the 55th minute looked pretty good considering I only saw it in a picture and the whole point of goals is that the ball moves. After 78 minutes, defender Ashley Williams got the fourth, showing that Wales’ goalscorers come from all over the pitch. It was also great to hear Craig Bellamy scored as he had a great game and really deserved a goal. Hopefully he loved the feeling so much, he’ll never want to miss a game for Wales again. The winner came in the 82nd minute.
Wayne Hennessey started in goal while Sam Ricketts, Craig Morgan, Ashley Williams and Chris Gunter made up the defence. It looked as though Craig Bellamy was playing in midfield, alongside Brian Stock, David Cotterill and Joe Ledley. Steve Morison and Robert Earnshaw played up front
John Toshack made three changes at half-time. Boaz Myhill took over in goal, with Andy King and David Vaughan replacing Brian Stock and Rob Earnshaw (perhaps Craig Bellamy became a striker here). Andrew Crofts came off the bench a minute before Craig’s winner – he replaced David Cotterill. The final substitution came in the85th minute, with Neal Eardley coming on in place of Sam Ricketts. Jason Brown was the only squad member not to get a run-out but using three different goalkeepers in the same match is pretty unusual.
So I didn’t see much of the match in the end. But if I’d been offered the chance to go to hospital and guaranteeWales a 5-1 victory, I would have taken it. In a second.

Welsh Player News 16th August 2010 (Scotland)
Aberdeen haven’t signed former Charlton Athletic defender Grant Basey yet but manager Mark McGhee says he’ll get it sorted soon and Grant isn’t going anywhere. I think that’s what Charlton thought too.
FC Utrecht play Celtic in an Europa League play-off match – and Joe Ledley is the player who’s got them quaking in their football boots. They will probably be even more scared if Craig Bellamy joins the club, as Joe hopes he will.
Joe played as Celtic beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1-0 away.
David Stephens was a substitute for Hibernian when they faced Motherwell but he made his presence felt when he got on the line to deny Motherwell a last-minute equaliser. Hibernian won 3-2 away. I just hope David likes being referred to as ‘Big David Stephens’ because his manager keeps on doing it!
Kyle Letheren has signed a one-year contract with Kilmarnock.
Rhys Weston has an ankle injury and was unable to play for Dundee against Partick Thistle. Home side Partick won 1-0. Dundee have won all their competitive matches with Rhys in the side apart from the one where he left after 17 minutes Dundee play Ross County on Saturday.

Welsh Player News (and rumours) 16th August (Premier League)
Arsene Wenger says he has set a date for Aaron Ramsey’s return. Except he hasn’t really, all he’s really done is set a month for Aaron’s return. Date to me means an actual number with th after it, or maybe st or rd.
But whatever he means, the great news is that Aaron could be playing again in November. And that’s such wonderful news, I honestly don’t care if it’s the 1st or the 31st or one of those dates in between.
The Lancashire Telegraph has some positive words to say about Blackburn keeper Jason Brown – always patient and never lets you down which really are qualities you need in your second-choice goalkeeper. But let’s hope he won’t have to be patient forever.
Joe Ledley took the news of Simon Davies’ retirement much better than I did.
Cottagers Confidential (which sounds a bit dodgy to me!) are also fans.
Boaz Myhill was looking forward to playing Chelsea again and frustrating Didier Drogba a bit. But he was on the bench for West Bromwich Albion and Chelsea won 6-0. Bo also thinks he can keep Wayne Hennessey out of the Wales team.
Gareth Bale is looking forward to playing in the Champions’ League with Tottenham Hotspur.
Craig Bellamy is going to have a very tiring season. He is set to sign for Cardiff City, Celtic, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur. Are you sure that’s a good idea with your knee, Craig?
Cardiff manager Dave Jones and striker Michael Chopra are very keen on the idea of signing Craig. Fulham manager Mark Hughes also likes him.
Or maybe Craig will go to Birmingham City, Everton or Sunderland instead. Actually, maybe I should just list the clubs who aren't interested.
Craig was fined two weeks wages (pretty much the same amount as I’ll get in the next 30 years) for having a moan about Roberto Mancini and threatening to quit football. Can I have some of Craig’s wages too? It was a really really big shock when he said he was thinking about retiring and I ended up in hospital, I really did.
I’m really hoping David Jones will make the decision to play for Wales rather than holding out for England but his keenness to get more money makes me wonder if he has a bit of Scottish blood too. He rejected Wolves’ latest contract offer.
Ryan Shawcross could be going to Tottenham Hotspur, who are a bit short in the centre back department.
Danny Collins and Ryan Shawcross are team-mates at Stoke – and they also both played for Buckley Town, although not at the same time. But seeing them play for Wales together isn’t very likely… is it?

Welsh Player News (and rumours) 2nd August Scottish/Irish
Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee wants to sign trialist Grant Basey but he needs to sort out some financial issues first.
Joe Ledley is loving life at Celtic. He missed the defeat to Arsenal in the Emirates Cup due to a knock. Celtic came back from 3-0 down but Arsenal just about hung on for once.
I was all ready to write about Rhys Weston joining Motherwell – only to find he’s signed for Dundee instead. He’s thrilled to be living with his family again and he hopes to get Dundee back into the Premier League.
Kyle Letheren doesn’t seem to like Motherwell much either. They didn’t let him play once and he’s in talks with Kilmarnock now.
David Stephens played the full match for Hibernian as they lost 1-0 to Jason Price’s Carlisle United.
Matthew Tipton has signed for Dundalk following an unsuccessful trial with Bradford City. His debut was a 1-0 defeat to Sligo Rovers.

Welsh Player News 31st July Scotland
At least two Aberdeen trialists have been ditched but Grant Basey is still hanging in there and it looks as though the manager wants him. A return to Charlton Athletic certainly looks unlikely.
Joe Ledley thinks Celtic can still qualify for the Champions’ League. It’s probably about as likely as you staying at Cardiff, Joe. But as my Scottish friend’s little girl says, at least you’ll have more energy for beating Rangers next season and that’s the important thing.
Meanwhile David Stephens, now with Hibernian, is excited about playing in the Europa League. I think it’s great. It’s easy to see that for some Premier League clubs, the Europa League is just an embarrassing and unwelcome distraction that comes too close to the weekend games. But it’s great to see players appreciating it.
Kyle Letheren was on trial at Motherwell last I heard, now he seems to be at Kilmarnock. But this report is dated 22nd July, who knows where he is now.
Rhys Weston hasn’t signed for Motherwell yet but it’s expected to be finalised soon.

Pre-season Friendlies (Part Four)
Hereford United 1-4 Swindon Town
Probably not the result Hereford fans were hoping for but as Swindon came close to getting into the Championship last season, the result isn’t that bad. Especially as two of Swindon’s goals were penalties. New signing Stuart Fleetwood looked dangerous for Hereford and Ryan Valentine was one player who tried to set him up after a great run. Stuart didn’t score Hereford’s goal but he did get the assist. Ryan Green conceded one of the penalties but not the other one.
The Ryans and Stuart all played the full match for Hereford and Kayne McLaggon was a 74th minute substitute. Kye Edwards stayed on the bench. Craig Jones didn’t play for Hereford because he’s left the club which seems like a good reason to me
Billy Bodin came off the bench as early as the 9th minute for Swindon and played until the 53rd minute.
Manchester City 3-0 Portland
Craig Bellamy started as Manchester City beat Portland 3-0. I would like to say this is a sign he isn’t going anywhere but unfortunately the team was full of players who have been linked with the exit.
Manchester United 3-1 Celtic
Ryan Giggs started for Manchester United and would have scored if Dimitar Berbatov hadn’t been so selfish (although you can’t blame Berbatov for being desperate to score a goal. It was when Ryan was substuted that Man Utd began to struggle. Owen Hargreaves missed out following his latest setback. It doesn’t look good. Michael Owen also didn’t play but he should be okay when the season starts.
Joe Ledley played for new club Celtic and won the penalty that gave them their goal.

Welsh Player Transfer Rumours 16th July
Craig Bellamy will join Tottenham Hotspur for £6 million – or so the papers say. Again. And they might even be right this time as Manchester City have just signed David Silva. Football Fan Cast tells Craig where to go.
Ryan Giggs might not be a one-club man for much longer. He could be off to America. But the Sun will say anything.
Congratukations to Dave Edwards who has become a father for the first time. Dave feels he is over his injury problems and he’s sure he can regain his place in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ team.
Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderrs and Newcastle United are all interested in signing David Jones from Wolverhampton Wanderers. But manager Mick McCarthy doesn’t think he’s going anywhere.
Cardiff City’s Anthony Gerrard (who has a cousin who plays for Liverpool) talks about the chemistry between him and Darcy Blake.
Boaz Myhill says he’s staying with Hull City. That’s what they all say when they’re just about to leave. (I do believe Bo though.)
Kerry Morgan has fractured a bone in his foot and will miss Swansea City’s next pre-season friendly – and one would guess a few other matches too.
Oldham Athletic have told Joe Jacobson he can look for a new club.
Rhys Taylor seems to like it in Crewe – he wants to stay for the whole season. Well if I had the choice of Crewe or Chelsea, I'd want to be at Crewe too.
Stuart Fleetwood is looking forward to playing for Hereford United again.
Cardiff City fans have sent Joe Ledley hate mail following his move to Celtic. Leave him alone, it’s not like he went to Swansea (not that it would be okay to send hate mail if he had).

Welsh Player News - New Signings
Arron Davies has signed for Peterborough United. He was released from Nottingham Forest in December and wanted to sign for Yeovil Town but as he’s already played for Forest and on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, he was unable to sign for them and instead signed non-contract terms at Brighton before being sent on loan to Yeovil. But instead of signing for Yeovil, Arron decided to go to a training camp with Peterborough – and you can only assume he had a pretty good time. He has signed a two-year contract.
Joe Ledley is now a Celtic player. As Celtic are outside the English league system, Cardiff City don’t get any compensation. I bet they’re just thrilled, especially considering their financial problems. Before the signing was even announced, Joe was named in Celtic’s squad for their tour of North America. Cardiff City manager Dave Jones was surprised by Joe’s choice. That makes at least two of us. I blame Craig Bellamy.
Goalkeeper Glyn Garner has signed for newly-promoted Blue Square Premier side Newport County.

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones was surprised by Joe’s choice. That makes at least two of us. I blame Craig Bellamy.
Goalkeeper Glyn Garner has signed for newly-promoted Blue Square Premier side Newport County.
