League One Fixtures 8th May Part 1

Brentford v Hartlepool United
Brentford are guaranteed to finish in the top ten but a home match against struggling Hartlepool United could lift them to ninth.
Hartlepool were deducted three points for fielding an eligible player which puts them right back in the relegation mix again. They need a win to be sure of survival.
Loan keeper Lewis Price has been left out of Brentford’s squad again. I don’t know why he’s still there when all the other loan players seem to have been sent back but whatever. There’s always something you don’t understand in football. I’ve got the offside rule sorted, now it’s the loan rules that’s the problem. Derby manager Nigel Clough hasn’t made a decision on Lewis’ future yet. So maybe he’ll keep him. Who knows, maybe he’ll even play him.

Brighton & Hove Albion v Yeovil Town
Brighton were fighting relegation not long ago – now they’ll be hoping for a win over Yeovil, a defeat for Walsall and a place in the top half of the table.
Andrew Crofts will play in midfield for Brighton.
Yeovil could be without star loan midfielder Gavin Williams, who has an ankle injury. Shaun MacDonald is not expected to be fit following a groin injury but Arron Davies is probably fine. Maybe the loan rule doesn’t apply to League One clubs? Assistant manager Nathan Jones could also be in the squad. Or not.

Colchester United v Leyton Orient
Colchester could move up to seventh if they win – but that won’t be much consolation for missing out on the play-offs. Orient have a chance of a 15th place finish.
Stop press: Lee Beevers might, just might return from his shoulder injury (I thought it had turned into a knee injury) for Colchester’s last game of the season after scoring in the reserves. That sounds a bit dodgy, I’m sure some of the reserves are underage.

Exeter City v Huddersfield Town
Exeter could be the favourite to go down with the most difficult run-in – they face Huddersfield Town, who still have a small chance of automatic promotion, rivals Tranmere Rovers facing bottom club Stockport County. Hartlepool United are also in the reckoning but only really if Exeter can win, in which case Exeter are almost certainly safe anyway, given that Tranmere are unlikely to win 18-0.
Richard Duffy is likely to start for Exeter, perhaps with one or both of Rob Edwards and Stuart Fleetwood. Rob says it will be a tense match (maybe just slightly!) but that Huddersfield’s attacking style of play might work to Exeter’s advantage. Andy Marriott will probably be on the bench although it was up to me I’d definitely give him a chance for the last game. Andy has done well for Exeter and was only dropped due to injury.
