Premier League Results 10th May Part 1

Arsenal 4-0 Fulham
Arsenal made sure of third place when they beat Fulham 4-0. So if nothing else, at least we can say we’re quite a lot better than Juventus. Fulham finish 12th which is a more than acceptable finish – and they’re season isn’t quite over yet.
Aaron Ramsey was of course missing from Arsenal’s squad with a broken leg but he was walking around the stadium for the lap of honour which in many ways was even better than winning 4-0.
Simon Davies was on the bench for Fulham. It probably wouldn’t be quite accurate to say they didn’t need him but they certainly didn’t use him.

Aston Villa 0-1 Blackburn Rovers
Aston Villa lost to Blackburn but they still finished in 6th place, ahead of Liverpool. And you can’t be too disappointed if you finish ahead of Liverpool.
Blackburn finish in the top ten for the fourth time in the last five years – which is a bit of a shock really as I thought they were a bit rubbish.
James Collins nearly got a couple of goals for Villa – and was very lucky not to concede a penalty. But even if he’s scored a couple of own goals, it will still have been a great season for the centre back.
Jason Brown was on the bench for Blackburn.

Bolton Wanderers 2-1 Birmingham City
Bolton finish in 14th place with 39 points – not what the fans will have hoped for but they could have finished a lot lower than that. Birmingham end the season with a defeat but I’m sure they’d have snapped your hand off if you’d offered then 9th place at the start of the season.
Sam Ricketts ended his first season for Bolton on the bench. I’m sure he warms the bench just as well a he plays the defensive roles – but it is a bit of a waste leaving him there.

Burnley 4-2 Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham were expected to celebrate their Champions’ League place with another win – which would have lifted them to 3rd place if Arsenal had lost – but after going 2-0 up in the first 32 minutes, it was Burnley who took the points. They also moved above Hull City on goal difference and as they picked up no cards at all, they could yet be playing Europa League football next season.
Gareth Bale started well for Tottenham, scoring his third goal of the season in the third minute – all very appropriate for Tottenham’s No. 3. He then set up Luka Modric for the second goal and was arguably Tottenham’s best player – again. But that probably won’t be much comfort for Gareth, who has suffered a knee injury and is now out of Wales’ friendly in Croatia.

Chelsea 8-0 Wigan Athletic
Okay, okay. We all knew Chelsea were going to win the league but did they have to make such a big thing of it?
It was thoroughly deserved though. Chelsea are turning into an exciting team to watch and they’ve got some great players. I wouldn’t mind having Nicolas Anelka back but I don’t want that English left back of theirs.
I think Wigan might be twins. There’s the really good Wigan who beat Arsenal and Chelsea, then the rubbish one that got thrashed by Chelsea and Tottenham. Actually, maybe they’re triplets because they can be pretty mediocre too.
No sign of Jason Koumas of course.

Hull City 0-0 Liverpool
Hull have got some pretty good results this season. They can still shock the biggish clubs when they put their mind to it. They beat Europa League finalists Fulham, took four points off Manchester City, drew with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, and now draw with Liverpool.
As for Liverpool, you could say they did worse than Hull this season. Hull were expected to go down. Liverpool were expected to challenge for the title. Hull did and Liverpool didn’t.
Boaz Myhill was on the bench for Hull. He says he’d like Iain Dowie to remain as manager of Hull.
