Manchester United 4-0 Stoke City
Manchester United did all they could but Chelsea failed to do their bit and Man Utd were unable to retain the title for a fourth consecutive year. Stoke couldn’t quite manage the top-half finish they’d hoped for but 11th is pretty close really.
Ryan Giggs scored Man Utd’s second goal and got the assist for the fourth as he played all 91 minutes. Owen Hargreaves wasn’t on the bench this time but his one minute of Premier League action this season might be enough to get him into the England squad in place of the injured Gareth Barry.
Ryan Shawcross played in defence for Stoke and Danny Collins joined him after 66 minutes.
West Ham United 1-1 Manchester City
West Ham finished five points clear of relegated Burnley and Hull City with this draw against Manchester City, whose season ended with a bit of a whimper. It was nice to see the two managers being interviewed together and speaking Italian though.
Danny Gabbidon was on the bench for West Ham as Jack Collison begins his long recovery from a knee operation.
Craig Bellamy was out of Manchester City’s squad due to an ankle injury.
Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Sunderland
Wolves ended their Premier League season with a win over nine-man Sunderland and moved up into 15th place above battered Wigan Athletic. Sunderland’s finishing position will be a disappointment after their brilliant start to the season but things would have been so much worse if their losing run hadn’t come to an end.
David Jones started for Wolves and was replaced by Dave Edwards after 61 minutes. There was again no place for Wayne Hennessey on the bench and Sam Vokes was also missing.
