Barnsley 1-1 Derby County
Both these clubs were playing against Leeds United the last time they won in the league. But whilst Barnsley’s victory was just a few days ago, Derby’s was on the first day of the season.
Gareth Roberts still hasn’t recovered from the cramp that saw him stretchered off in the match before last. Robbie Savage was dropped to the bench and he stayed there.
Bristol City 1-2 Coventry City
Bristol City were back to losing ways while Coventry won at Ashton Gate for the first time in 47 years. Even their manager was eight years away from being born.
Christian Ribeiro was given his first start of the season for Bristol City after recovering from either a shoulder injury or a back injury. As his shoulders are at the top of his back, it could have been both. New signing Brett Pitman was on the bench but he came on after 85 minutes to replace Christian.
Freddy Eastwood didn’t play for Coventry due to a knee injury.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Burnley
Even if Palace had lost, they wouldn’t have ended up in the bottom three but every point will be particularly welcome at this time. True, Burnley haven’t won any games away this season but considering Burnley’s promotion challenge, a point for Palace is pretty good.
Andy Dorman started for Palace but Lewis Price was on the bench.
Hull City 0-0 Nottingham Forest
Forest are on a 5-match unbeaten run. But as only one of them was actually a win, Hull may have fancied their chances. Especially considering their unbeaten home record. But it was a draw so both clubs kept their record intact.
Forest striker Robert Earnshaw has only scored once this season – and that was a very early Christmas present from Reading keeper Adam Federici. He got the ball in the net this time but the referee was handing out no early presents and the goal was disallowed for offside. It was the correct decision. Luckily Rob hadn’t started somersaulting yet.
Chris Gunter also played and came very close to winning his team a penalty but he was just the wrong side of the white line.
