Newcastle United v Blackpool
Blackpool will be hoping Newcastle are still in party mood after their promotion back to the Premier League was secured last week. Blackpool are just one point behind the top six.
David Vaughan will almost certainly keep his place in Blackpool’s starting line-up while Rob Edwards should be on the bench at least. Hamstrung Welshman Neal Eardley and Daniel Nardiello are out for the season.
Nottingham Forest v Ipswich Town
Nottingham Forest need to win in order to stand any chance at all of automatic promotion – but Ipswich Town have been on great form and if West Brom win it won’t matter what Forest do.
It would be a shame for Chris Gunter to lose his ever-present status in Forest’s team now. Rob Earnshaw recovered from a back injury in time for Forest’s last game but he might not keep his place. Forest strikers often don’t. Rob thinks both Cardiff and Swansea will join Forest in the play-offs.
Peterborough United v Leicester City
Peterborough will play their football in League One next season but that doesn’t necessarily mean this will be an easy game for Leicester, who could drop out of the play-off places if they fail to win.
Peterborough’s Craig Morgan is likely to return from an ankle injury.
Andy King is likely to start for Leicester with Nicky Adams on the bench.
Preston North End v Scunthorpe United
Scunthorpe United remain in relegation trouble and Preston could yet join them although you’d expect them to be safe with 50 points.
Paul Parry won’t play for Preston due to a knee injury.
Sheffield United v Coventry City
Both these sides’ play-off challenges seem to have fizzled out – Coventry have more chance of being relegated than going up through the play-offs.
Sheffield United are without Ched Evans, whose injury is now being described as a ‘broken’ collarbone again. I hope that’s a mistake.
Freddy Eastwood has missed Coventry’s last few matches with a back injury (I’ve had one of those too) but he has been passed fit to play in this one.
Watford v Plymouth Argyle
Watford are in deep trouble and Plymouth (who are in deeper trouble) will be wanting to take advantage of that as their great escape plans continue apace.
Carl Fletcher (knee) is expected to return for Plymouth. And Watford could soon have a new Welsh person working for them – me.
