Reading 3-0 Coventry City
Reading are only just in the top half of the table but their two games in hand mean they could still make the play-offs. So could Coventry, but only mathematically and probably not for long.
The other strikers were tired so Simon Church finally got a chance to impress and I think he probably succeeded. He scored a penalty in the 22nd minute to put Reading 2-0 up.
Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Bristol City
Another defeat for Sheffield Wednesday dumps them back into the bottom three. But League One is practically the new Championship. Southampton will be there next year and at least one out of Leeds United and Charlton Athletic. And Milton Keynes Dons were in the Premier League for years.
Bristol City will be disappointed with their finishing position too. I wonder what division they’d be in now if they’d won that play-off final against Hull City. I would say probably the Championship…
Lewin Nyatanga returned to Bristol City’s starting line-up but Christian Ribeiro, so impressive in recent games, had a knee injury and didn’t play. Lewin did a great job though and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.
Swansea City 3-0 Scunthorpe United
Swansea finally got the win they’ve been waiting for for weeks while Scunthorpe remain in with a chance of going straight back down again.
Ashley Williams tried to claim one of the goals in Swansea’s last match but no-one was fooled. This time actually managed to touch the ball. The tactic worked and Swansea’s second goal is officially his. David Cotterill also started and his corners proved as dangerous as his free kicks. Joe Allen made his first start since returning from a knee injury and nearly scored but Jazz Richards is still out with whatever injury he’s got. David Cornell was on the bench.
