Newcastle 2-2 Ipswich Town
I was all excited about this game. Roy Keane said he’d give the younger players a chance but Troy Brown wasn’t even in the squad. It was a great game though. Newcastle will now complete their season without losing a match at home (their only remaining match is away).
Nottingham Forest 3-0 Plymouth Argyle
Nottingham Forest beat Plymouth emphatically and sent them back down to League Two – but we all kind of knew they were going anyway. Forest are now guaranteed to finish in one of the top two play-off places which could be an advantage given that their home form is much better than their away form.
Chris Gunter and Robert Earnshaw were back in the starting line-up. Chris got Forest a clean sheet and Rob scored their opening goal, his fifteenth of the season.
There was a rumour that Carl Fletcher was out with a knee injury but I think whoever said it maybe didn’t realise he was better now. Anyway, he played.
Peterborough United 0-1 Blackpool
Blackpool move into the final play-off place after this victory over relegated Peterborough and Swansea City’s defeat to Sheffield United.
Craig Morgan didn’t play for Peterborough due to illness.
David Vaughan played the full match for Blackpool. He would have got an assist but the Peterborough keeper was having a ‘world class’ moment. David also did his bit defensively, clearing a shot off the line to stop Peterborough from equalising. Neal Eardley returned from a hamstring injury to sit with Rob Edwards on the bench.
Preston North End 0-1 Leicester City
Leicester ensured their place in the play-off places with this victory over Preston.
And guess who scored the goal? Andy King. He’s been great this season – lucky lucky Wales. Andy is desperate to play in Wembley because even his brother’s played there and I don’t think he’s a professional because I think I’d know about him.
His team-mate Nicky Adams was only a substitute again despite a rumoured midfield crisis.
Preston are still without Paul Parry, who has a knee injury.
