Birmingham City v Wigan Athletic
Birmingham‘s win brings them to just five points short of sixth place. The Europa League might be just a little bit beyond their reach but Birmingham have achieved so much already. I mean, it’s February and they’re almost certainly safe. Jason Koumas wasn’t in Wigan’s squad (and he wasn’t in West Brom’s or Newcastle’s either, I checked).
Bolton Wanderers 1-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Bolton got a much-needed win which also meant a clean sheet for Sam Ricketts, who had a good game in defence, making at least one vital block to preserve the three points. As an Arsenal fan, I was also happy to see Jack Wilshere have a good game. I’m glad we’ve already played Bolton, that’s all I can say.
Wolves left Wayne Hennessey and Sam Vokes on the bench. There is a reason why they keep getting into the Wales squad, you know, Mick McCarthy.
Chelsea 2-4 Manchester City
So are Hull better than Chelsea then? No, but I’m enjoying pretending. Craig Bellamy had a quiet first-half before scoring two goals in the second. He’ll be missed in Wales but he probably does need the rest.
Chelsea are looking as though they could be in real trouble without Petr Cech, not to mention the two red-carded midfielders - and a certain centre back looked shaky too. (I wouldn’t want to shake his hand either but I would have done it in order to cause as little embarrassment as possible for my team-mates, and to stop the mascots from asking awkward questions. I don’t blame Wayne Bridge though.)
Stoke City 1-3 Arsenal
I don’t care about the result. I would rather see Arsenal lose every match for the rest of the season than see Aaron Ramsey – or any player - hurt like that. Poor Aaron. I hope he plays again as soon as he can.
I don’t blame Ryan Shawcross though. It was a mis-timed challenge but players make mis-timed challenges all the time. It’s only occasionally it all ends so horribly. I hope Ryan can recover from this too. Danny Collins came on as a substitute to join his Stoke team-mates who were scarcely less shocked than Arsenal’s players.
But I would love to see Arsenal win the title for Aaron. And if they do, it’ll be partly because of Aaron. His part in the season has been cut horribly short but he’s made a big contribution.
Brysiwch wella, Aaron.

League Two Fixtures 27th February Part 2
Northampton Town v Cheltenham Town
Peter Gilbert will probably start for Cheltenham, as Josh Low attempts to claw the away side further away from the relegation places.
Notts County v Hereford United
Ryan Green, Ryan Valentine and Darren Jones could all play in Hereford’s club as they take on the future Premier League champions.
Shrewsbury Town v Bournemouth
Will Richards will probably be on the bench for Shrewsbury but Bournemouth have managed to extend Rhoys Wiggins’ emergency loan for another month. Joe Partington (back) will remain in Bournemouth’s busy treatment room.
League Two Fixtures 27th February Part 1
Bradford City v Darlington
Michael Flynn will be hoping their new tough manager can will ensure they don’t lose to bottom club Darlington.
Burton Albion v Rotherham United
Burton are still contenders to win the league. But their chances will dwindle if Burton have anything to do with it. Tony James will play for Burton and who knows, maybe he’ll get another last-minute winner.
Chesterfield v Aldershot Town
Mark Crossley will be on the bench for Chesterfield while Robert Page plays against Aldershot.
Dagenham & Redbridge v Grimsby Town
Tony Roberts will probably entertain the Dagenham supporters even if Grimsby do the impossible and beat them.
Macclesfield Town v Rochdale
Matthew Tipton is likely to be on the bench, at least to start with, as they try to take some points off leaders Rochdale.
Morecambe v Port Vale
Darren Moss is likely to be on Morecambe’s bench as Craig Davies and Lewis Haldane (hopefully) start putting goals past his team. Gareth Owen will be in Port Vale’s defence, just in case Darren comes off the bench and gets any ideas (not that I won't be happy if Darren scores).

League One Fixtures 27th February Part 2
Southampton v Walsall
Southampton’s Lloyd James has an ankle injury (so that’s where he’s been and is expected to be out for another fortnight. Rhys Weston has returned to training and could play for Walsall but Mark Bradley will probably be on the bench again.
Southend United P-P Charlton Athletic
This match was off as it looks like they played it last night. Charlton’s Grant Basey didn’t play of course due to an ankle ligament injury but Southend loanee Sanchez Watt played a part in the game. More on him when I’ve had time to read the match reports and watch the highlights.
Stockport County v Wycombe Wanderers
These teams look so down, does this even count as a relegation battle? Owain fon Williams will be in goal for Stockport.
Yeovil Town v Milton Keynes Dons
Owain Tudur Jones has a knock and might not play for Yeovil but Shaun MacDonald and Arron Davies are likely to play. MK Dons will be hoping for something from top scorer Jermaine Easter.

League One Fixtures 27th February Part 1
Brentford P-P Tranmere Rovers
This match is off because of heavy rain. But Lewis Price and Ash Taylor might not have played anyway.
Brighton & Hove Albion v Exeter City
But the big survival scrap is still going ahead. Andrew Crofts is in the Wales v Sweden squad and if you can get into Wales’ squad, you ought to be able to get into Brighton’s. Andy Marriott, Richard Duffy, Rob Edwards and Stuart Fleetwood could all start for Exeter.
Bristol Rovers v Colchester United
Byron Anthony has had a knee injury but is expected to be fit to play for Bristol Rovers. Ben Swallow should be in the squad though. Lee Beevers isn’t fit enough to play for Colchester but Christian Ribeiro, who has agreed a two-month extension to his loan, has a chance of playing.
Oldham Athletic v Norwich City
Joe Jacobson and Jason Price are both expected to play for Oldham. Jason is likely to extend his loan from Millwall until the end of the season.

Championship Fixtures 27th February Part 3
Sheffield United v Plymouth Argyle
Ched Evans is expected to start for Wales so a run-out with Sheffield United would be very useful. So let’s hope the manager can sort it. Carl Fletcher has retired from international football but he too has a very important job on his hands – saving Plymouth from relegation. He says they can do it and he’s certainly playing his part, although survival looks far from certain.
Swansea City v Peterborough United
Ashley Williams has a good chance of starting and I hope David Cotterill will. Jazz Richards is also likely to start in defence after impressing recently but Joe Allen is likely to be out for a month with a knee injury. Craig Morgan will be very happy to be playing for Wales, perhaps this will inspire him against Swansea.
West Bromwich Albion v Derby County
As predicted, Robbie Savage was far from happy when he saw how dangerous the tackle on him last weekend really was. It really could have ended his career. Never mind that it’s difficult to imagine anyone getting into a battle with Robbie – Derby’s new go-karting champion - and not coming off worse. Maybe Robbie needs a pay rise though. His wife can’t afford hand cream.

Championship Fixtures 27th February Part 2
Leicester City v Nottingham Forest
Nicky Adams was back on the bench (as opposed to out of the squad) for the last match and also made a substitute appearance, playing alongside Andy King. Here they take on Nottingham Forest, who remain almost unplayable at home but have been come vulnerable away. Chris Gunter will be in Forest’s defence with Robert Earnshaw trying to cause problems up front.
Middlesbrough v Queen’s Park Rangers
Danny Coyne will probably play in goal for Middlesbrough as they continue to fight for a place in the play-offs but Rhys Williams is back in training after a pelvis injury but won’t play.
Preston North End v Cardiff City
Paul Parry has suffered a setback from his knee injury and might not play again this season. Cardiff’s injury problems also continue. Joe Ledley is out after operations on both his hips but hopes to return for the play-offs. I just hope Cardiff are in them. The good news is Joe is already walking without crutches and is doing light training.
Aaron Wildig has had recent back problems but he’s recovered and has a very good chance of playing. Darcy Blake s a doubt due to a virus, maybe he’s been snogging a Tottenham player. Adam Matthews came on as a substitute last week and he’s likely to be on the bench again for today’s game.
Reading v Sheffield Wednesday
Simon Church is scoring regularly again. A win over Sheffield Wednesday would be great for their survival hopes and as he’s likely to start up front for Wales on Wednesday, keeping his regular scoring run going can only help.

Championship Fixtures 27th February Part 1
Barnsley v Blackpool
Blackpool aim to continue their promotion push and as Neal Eardley has made it into the Wales squad, I think this would be a good warm-up for him. Rob Edwards is still suspended and Daniel Nardiello has a groin injury but David Vaughan, who is also in the Wales squad, will be there to keep Neal company.
Coventry City v Scunthorpe United
Freddy Eastwood missed out on a place in the Wales squad. But if he scores a nice big hat-trick today, it’s not impossible he’ll be a late addition.
Doncaster Rovers v Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace fought bravely when they first went into administration but they are now in the relegation zone. They now face a side whom I believe were in the Conference when Palace were last in the Premier League. Brian Stock misses out with the back injury that also prevents him for playing for Wales.
Gareth Roberts and John Oster missed out on a recall but they should have no such problems where Doncaster’s starting line-up is concerned. Gareth’s problems in the last match have been blamed on the distraction of a streaker (it would distract me too) while John woudn’t mind scoring against Palace as he is just one of the people they owe money to.
Ipswich Town v Bristol City
Gavin Williams has mostly only been on the bench for Bristol City – if that – in recent games. But maybe this is the game where he’ll regain his place and play alongside Lewin Nyatanga. There is a good chance that James Wilson will be on Bristol City’s bench.

Premier League Fixtures 27th February
Birmingham v Wigan Athletic
Jason Koumas is again not in the matchday squad. Birmingham still have a chance of playing in the Europa League but Wigan are thinking more of the Championship. Jason is still a Wigan player, having persuaded Ben Watson to go to West Brom on loan which probably means they won’t need Jason after all. Middlesbrough are allegedly after him though.
Bolton Wanderers v Wolverhampton Wanderers
Sam Ricketts should start for Bolton in this relegation three-pointer (yes a three-pointer, they’re not going to get more than three points) for Wanderers and Wanderers. Dave Edwards is still out with an ankle injury but Wolves should have Wayne Hennessey and Sam Vokes on the bench. (Well actually, Wolves should have Wayne and Sam in the team but I bet they won’t.
Chelsea v Manchester City
This match has already started so I can’t really claim to be psychic but it would be so nice of Manchester City could win this with a goal or two from Craig Bellamy… It would also be nice if Chelsea could put Rhys Taylor on the bench as Petr Cech is out but they haven’t.
Stoke City v Arsenal
Arsenal face their bogey team again and they’ve still got half the squad out, or so it seems. Ryan Shawcross, who this week said he didn’t want to play for Wales, looks certain to start. Stoke’s suspended defenders return so Danny Collins could drop to the bench. But he might not if Danny Higginbotham fails to recover from a back injury. Injured backs are horrible though so I kind of hope he does recover.
Aaron Ramsey has a good chance of playing for Arsenal.

Europa League Result 25th February
Shakhtar Donetsk 1-1 Fulham (agg 2-3)
Fulham knock out the closest thing the Europa League has to a reigning champion. As an Arsenal fan I would like to point out that they knocked out Tottenham Hotspur last year but as a Gareth Bale fan maybe I shouldn’t (he missed the first leg anyway). Oops, too late. Simon Davies played all but the final minute (and the four minutes of stoppage time).

FA Cup Fifth Round Replay Results 24th February
Aston Villla 3-1 Crystal Palace
The Championship side gave a very good account of themselves (although it did threaten to turn into a penalty shoot-out at times) but it’s Villa who go through to the next round. James Collins was rested for this match, possibly because of the head injury he suffered in the last match but maybe just because even the best players need a rest sometimes.
Stoke City 3-1 Manchester City
After a stalemate in the first match, Stoke and Man City faced one another again in the League, where a Ryan Shawcross goal was wrongly disallowed, denying Stoke a win.
This time, the home side got what they deserved – and so did Ryan. His 95th minute goal put Stoke into the lead after a throw from Rory Delap (I wish he was Welsh) which had the Manchester City players rooted to the spot in terror. Ryan needed only the smallest headed touch to get the ball over the line. Ryan also got Emmanuel Adebayor sent off but I’m sure that was an accident.
It’s just a shame Ryan doesn’t want to play for Wales. I can kind of understand though. Maybe he loves England like I love Wales. And he’s Welsh enough for me to want him to play for the country he loves.
But the sending-off left City with the unfit Craig Bellamy as the only striker in their squad. Craig did score Manchester City’s equaliser but in the end it was no more than a consolation goal. Not that it could have been much of a celebration. Danny Collins was part of Stoke’s strong defence.
Tottenham 4-0 Bolton Wanderers
Technically it was two apiece but Bolton seemed to get a little bit confused about which net they were meant to be putting it in. Gareth Bale was again on fine form, making some good overlapping runs as well as getting an assist for the second of Bolton’s own goals. Sam Ricketts played the full game for Bolton and he didn’t get the other own goal.
West Bromwich Albion 2-3 Reading
West Brom took the lead twice but after Reading got their second equaliser in the third minute of stoppage time, West Brom discovered they were no better than Liverpool. Simon Church overcame an injury to play 103 minutes for Reading. BBC Sport didn’t credit him with the assist but the scorer of the goal did and that’s how it looked when I was watching so he got an assist.

League Two Results 23rd February
Aldershot Town 2-3 Dagenham & Redbridge
Dag & Red came back from 2-0 down to beat Aldershot, climbing above them in the process. They’re only two points outside the play-offs and will be level with Shrewsbury on goal difference if they win their games in hand. And I’m sure Aldershot’s goals weren’t Tony Roberts’ fault.
Bournemouth 3-0 Barnet
Bournemouth kept up their challenge for automatic promotion. They are now second again although Bury and Chesterfield can overtake them by winning their games in hand. Bournemouth were again forced to name just four substitutes with Joe Partington (back) again among the injured.
So they were probably doubly grateful to loanee Rhoys Wiggins, who helped with the clean sheet as well as providing an extra body in the squad. Rhoys has extended his loan and will stay with Bournemouth for another month. He’s very happy to be staying at the club and he really appreciates the support of the fans.
Bury 0-0 Morecambe
Bury missed the chance to stay ahead of Bournemouth when they could only draw with Morecambe. Darren Moss was on the bench for Morecambe.
Cheltenham Town 1-1 Torquay
Cheltenham were on course to win this but then Torquay cruelly scored in the 89th minute. If they’re going to score anyway, they really should make it nice and early so Cheltenham fans don’t get their hopes up. Josh Low played for Cheltenham.
Grimsby Town 1-1 Macclesfield Town
Grimsby carried on doing what they do best with yet another draw. Matthew Tipton came off the bench after 54 minutes and was unlucky not to find a winner for Macclesfield.
Hereford United 0-2 Northampton Town
Northampton Peter Gilbert helped his side to another win which lifts them to 8th place. Northampton will need some of the teams behind them to drop points if they want to be serious play-off contenders but they’re going the right way about it.
Ryan Green returned from injury for Hereford but he, Darren Jones and Ryan Valentine couldn’t help Hereford to a win although Darren nearly scored, a shot the visiting goalkeeper did well to block.
Port Vale 4-0 Lincoln City
The two Welsh strikers worked together as Port Vale continue their unlikely play-off push. Well you’ve got to admire their determination and I personally admire their Welsh players too. Lewis Haldane set up Craig Davies for the third goal after just fifteen minutes. Gareth Owen’s hamstring problems did not prevent him from playing his second game for Vale in three days. So he’s probably better then.
Rochdale 1-3 Bradford City
Michael Flynn said new boss Peter Taylor would sort Bradford out and he seems to be heading in the right direction. It doesn’t come much better than an away win over leaders Rochdale, with Michael close to adding his own name to the scoresheet.

League One Results 23rd February
Charlton Athletic 1-2 Brighton & Hove Albion
Another defeat for Charlton means that their position in the play-offs places is currently the least secure although this will change if Swindon and Huddersfield lose their games in hand. Charlton’s Grant Basey was due to see a specialist about his injury but no news yet about the result. Andrew Crofts, rumoured to be included in the Wales squad to face Sweden, was on good form as his team Brighton climbed out of the relegation zone.
Leeds United 2-0 Oldham Athletic
Oldham slipped back into the relegation zone as Leeds chose tonight to remember how to win games. Joe Jacobson and Jason Price both played the full match for Oldham, with Jason not that far off bringing Oldham back into the game. Joe is shortlisted for the Maccabi Awards, after being last year’s winner.
Milton Keynes Dons 1-3 Millwall
A win wasn’t enough to send Kenny Jackett’s Millwall back into the play-off places but they kept up their pressure on their rivals by beating MK Dons, who were formerly in line for the play-offs themselves. Jermaine Easter – who didn’t score against his former side – thought he should have had a penalty but the referee didn’t agree.
Norwich City 2-1 Southend United
One relatively late goal and one very very late goal denied Southend a win at leading club Norwich City. Sanchez Watt missed out on playing for Southend as his head injury was deemed too severe for him to play.
Swindon Town 4-1 Stockport County
Stockport’s goal in the third minute of first-half stoppage time brought the score back to 2-1 and could have kept them in the game. But Stockport goalkeeper Owain fon Williams was beaten twice more with Stockport unable to muster any further goals. All the same, Stockport will be hoping Owain isn’t in the Wales squad. They’d really miss him if he wasn’t there.
Tranmere Rovers 0-2 Huddersfield Town
Tranmere remain out of the relegation places despite losing to Huddersfield but for their sake I hope Ash Taylor comes back from injury soon. Tranmere have done so well to fight their way away from immediate danger and Ash has been a key player for them.
Walsall 0-1 Yeovil Town
Yeovil ended their run of three defeats without a goal in the best possible way. Yeovil are now in 13th, a respectable if still worrying six points from the relegation zone. Shaun MacDonald and Owain Tudur Jones both came close to increasing Yeovil’s lead but one goal proved enough. Arron Davies came on as a very late substitute.
Wycombe Wanderers 0-0 Southampton
Wycombe got themselves another point against superior opposition (as is going to happen in nearly all your wins when you’re 23rd) as they drew with Southampton. The Saints were again without Lloyd James.

Championship Result 23rd February
Doncaster Rovers 0-1 Leicester City
Brian Stock was unable to play due to a back injury – a great disappointment for Doncaster and Brian and potentially also for Wales as Brian’s good performances recently must have made him a candidate for Wales v Sweden.
Gareth Roberts was able to start after being a substitute at the weekend and took the captain’s armband in the absence of Brian. He nearly scored too. John Oster also came close to an equaliser and the assistant manager praised his influential play.
Andy King however could have made it two for Leicester. Nicky Adams was back on the bench for Leicester after missing out on a place in the squad last week. He came on after an hour and also gave Doncaster something to worry about.

Premier League Result 23rd February
Manchester United 3-0 West Ham United
Jack Collison again made only a cameo appearance for West Ham as Manchester United, as expected, took the three points. But without Jack’s intervention, Rooney could have got a hat-trick. It’s nice to know there are some Welsh players who can stop Rooney from scoring. Someone will have to do it in the qualifiers.

FA Cup Fifth Round Replay Fixtures
Aston Villa v Crystal Palace
There’s no doubt that the better team is the one challenging for the Champions’ League place, rather than the one in the relegation battle in the division below (although to be fair to Palace, they should really be challenging for promotion. James Collins has a head injury but he says he’ll be fit for this match and Martin O’Neill thinks that a big, tough lad like James will be fine, even if he hits him over the head with a lump hammer. I think he’s probably right but I don’t recommend trying it.
Stoke City v Manchester City
Having already beaten the best team in the world (indulge me, I mean Arsenal) Stoke now have their second go at beating the richest. Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross has a point to prove after his goal was (probably) wrongly disallowed when the teams faced off in the League.
Danny Collins has a very good chance of keeping his place as one of the other defenders is suspended which is always useful when you’ve been on the bench a lot.
Craig Bellamy could play for Man City as they're short of strikers. Ideally I'd like him to rest up for the Wales match but somehow I don't think he'll be playing in that.
Tottenham Hotspur v Bolton Wanderers
Bolton are often more difficult to beat when you’re the away team but parking the bus isn’t much use in a Cup match. You can hold out through normal time and extra time but there’s no place for the bus in a penalty shoot-out. Luckily for Bolton none of Tottenham’s players seem able to score penalties at the moment.
Gareth Bale is said to be next in line to take one. I hope he'll only take it if he's happy to. Jamie O'Hara has shown that being young is a big help when it comes to being forgiven for missing a penalty but the pressure on him will still be pretty high and he has only just got his confidence back. He is a brilliant player though.
Owen Coyle might choose to save his better players for the relegation battle so Sam Ricketts might not play. Tottenham will probably be glad. Other than conceding the penalty – which was ultimately unhelpful for Tottenham – he played very well in the original fixture.
West Bromwich Albion v Reading
Reading will be really hoping the hard-working and recently free-scoring Simon Church will be able to play. Simon was substituted at the weekend after suffering a foot injury but will play if he can pass a fitness test.

Crewe Alexandra v Chesterfield
Robert Page will probably be in Chesterfield’s starting line-up with Mark Crossley on the bench. A win would put Chesterfield well into contention for an automatic promotion place.

League Two Fixtures 23rd February
Accrington Stanley v Burton Albion
Tony James was Burton’s hero last week after scoring a last-gasp winner against Hereford United. After going years without a goal, maybe he’ll become a regular scorer for a match or two. Stranger things have happened in football.
Aldershot Town v Dagenham & Redbridge
Tony Roberts is expected to play in goal for Dagenham % Redbridge. And if he’s not, the Daggers fans probably won’t be very happy. They’ve needed something to smile about and it sounds as though Tony has provided it. Just not always with his goalkeeping.
Bournemouth v Barnet
Barnet haven’t won that many games recently so Bournemouth will be thinking about a return to second place, Joe Partington is out with a back injury (see, I told you they were everywhere). Rhoys Wiggins should be available.
Cheltenham Town v Torquay United
I suppose this match counts as a relagation clash. Grimsby might not have won for a while but they’re still only five points behind Torquay and seven behind Cheltenham. Josh Low will be in Cheltenham’s squad.
Grimsby Town v Macclesfield Town
Grimsby will be hoping to continue their, er, unbeaten run (well they are definitely unbeaten) against Macclesfield, who will probably keep Matthew Tipton on the bench.
Hereford United v Northampton Town
Ryan Green could be fit enough to start for Hereford alongside Ryan Valentine and Darren Jones. Peter Gilbert will probably be in defence for Northampton.
Port Vale v Lincoln City
The Port Vale manager is apparently considering making changes following defeat to Barnet at the weekend. As long as he leaves Gareth Owen, Craig Davies and Lewis Haldane where they are, I’ll be happy.
Rochdale v Bradford City
The perfect way for Bradford to prove their season isn’t a complete disaster. A trip to Rochdale. (Which really is a lot more frightening than it sounds.) Michael Flynn should keep his place in Bradford’s team after new manager Peter Taylor praised his performance and leadership.

League One Fixtures 23rd February Part 2
MK Dons v Millwall
MK Dons striker Jermaine Easter is facing one of his former clubs in this play-off clash. Jermaine got an assist last week and he would have got a goal too if it had actually been allocated to him.
Norwich City v Southend United
Arsenal loanee Sanchez Watt should start for Southend. Norwich might put Josh Dawkin on the bench again but I wouldn’t expect him to play.
Swindon Town v Stockport County
Stockport are on a winning run again and goalkeeper Owain fon Williams will be doing all he can to ensure it stays that way. Meanwhile, his manager, team-mates and fans will probably be hoping he isn’t called up for the Wales friendly.
Tranmere Rovers v Huddersfield Town
There’s no news about Tranmere’s star midfielder/defender Ash Taylor but the BBC Sport site says that other than the players they mentioned (of whom Ash isn’t one), Tranmere have no other injury worries.
Walsall v Yeovil Town
Rhys Weston is almost certain not to play for Walsall but Mark Bradley will probably be on the bench at least. Arron Davies, Shaun MacDonald and Owain Tudur Jones are all likely to be included in Yeovil’s midfield. I’m not sure about defender Nathan Jones.
Wycombe Wanderers v Southampton
I hope Lloyd James will at least be in Southampton’s squad if he’s fit and if not, I hope he’s better soon. Not that I especially want Wycombe to go down, I just want to know where this talented young Welshman has gone.

League One Fixtures 23rd February Part 1
Charlton Athletic v Brighton & Hove Albion
A welcome win for Charlton at the weekend prevented them from slipping further behind the top three, only one of whom won. But they will of course be without the injured Grant Basey, who has an ankle injury. Grant will see a specialist this week in order to find out how long he’s likely to be out for. Andrew Crofts will be helping to play Brighton out of trouble and play himself into the Wales squad. Probably not in time for next week but I love his eagerness.
Colchester United v Brentford
Colchester continue to press their case for a play-off place at the very least – if Leeds keep going the way they are, it could easily be more. Christian Ribeiro’s groin injury will prevent him from playing for Colchester – it can’t be long before his loan runs out.
Lee Beevers is out and it seems I wasn’t wrong about the shoulder injury, he really did have one. But BBC Sport are also right because Sporting Life says that having recovered from his shoulder injury, he’s picked up a knee injury. I just hope the medical people know which part of him to treat.
I hope Lewis Price will be on the bench for Brentford again (at the very least) but their official first-choice goalkeeper is now rated ‘doubtful’.
Exeter City v Bristol Rovers
Exeter confirm their place in the relegation battle by slipping into the bottom four for the first time but they do have some good players. Several people have commented on how well Andy Marriott has done in goal for Exeter since regaining his place in the first team and Richard Duffy and Rob Edwards have also looked good. And that’s just the Welsh players. Loanee Stuart Fleetwood was given a rare start at the weekend, if he starts again maybe he’ll get on the scoresheet.
They are playing a side who haven’t won away since September. Bristol Rovers however have a bit of a point to prove – three points ideally – after defeat to Gillingham. Byron Anthony and Ben Swallow are both likely to feature in the squad somewhere.
Leeds United v Oldham United
The good news for Oldham is that Leeds still haven’t really recovered from their FA Cup hangover after beating Manchester United. Oldham have some injury concerns but they also have Joe Jacobson and Jason Price, who is hoping to extend his loan from Millwall.

Doncaster Rovers v Leicester City
Doncaster hope to bounce back from last week’s defeat while Leicester are hoping to keep their place in the top six. Doncaster’s Brian Stock has a back injury (is it catching, a couple of the Cardiff Welshman have one too) and could miss out. Gareth Roberts came off the bench last week but if he’s fully recovered from his injury, he could start alongside John Oster.
The Leicester manager has hinted he might make changes which could be great news for Nicky Adams, who was left out completely at the weekend, but not so good for Andy King.

Manchester United v West Ham
Ryan Giggs will be just one of Manchester United’s missing players as West Ham hope for the miracle of an Old Trafford win.
Jack Collison was on the bench for West Ham’s last two games, which they won, but he did come off the bench so maybe a start isn’t impossible. He’s got a Wales match next Wednesday so a game tomorrow night would be very useful. Danny Gabbidon is still out with a hamstring injury.

Bristol City 2-1 West Bromwich Albion
A great win for Bristol City over automatic promotion contenders West Brom. Lewin Nyatanga played the full match for Bristol City but Gavin Williams stayed on the bench.

Premier League Results 21st February
Aston Villa 5-2 Burnley
Aston Villa came back from 1-0 down to give Burnley a thrashing. They might be quite worried that two Burnley goals managed to get through their solid defence. James Collins had stitches in a head injury but he was able to complete the game. James did deflect a Burnley shot that nearly went in but it didn’t go in so I’d say that was good defending. Even if he didn’t really know anything about it.
Blackburn 3-0 Bolton Wanderers
Sam Allardyce faced his old side and came away with the three points. Jason Brown was on Blackburn’s bench as usual. Sam Ricketts didn’t really have his best game at centre back for Bolton but I think it’s a bit mean of Owen Coyle to complain about Sam playing a Blackburn player onside. Maybe he just didn’t want anything to do with the offside trap. I’m sure I’d be completely against it as a tactic if Arsenal weren’t so famous for it.
Fulham 2-1 Birmingham City
Simon Davies managed 82 minutes as Fulham came from behind to beat Birmingham. He could have got himself another goal but unfortunately he was up against Joe Hart. Simon thinks Bobby Zamora has a chance of being called into the England squad and if I cared about England I’d definitely want him to be there. I would be very happy if he had a Welsh grandparent.
Manchester City 0-0 Liverpool
Craig Bellamy’s knee injury kept him on the bench to begin with although maybe he’d have started if he hadn’t had that argument with Roberto Mancini. But City fans were very happy to see him come onto the pitch after 68 minutes. If anyone was going to liven this game up, it was going to be Craig. But not even Craig could do anything with this game. Even if he had done something interesting, no-one would have seen it because the spectators would have fallen asleep by then.
Wigan Athletic 0-3 Tottenham Hotspur
Jason Koumas was left out of the squad as expected as Wigan lost to Tottenham. It wasn’t another 9-1 but for the most part there looked like only one possible winner.
Well done to Gareth Bale who turned in another Man of the Match performance (not sure if he got the champagne although he would have been a contender) as well as getting his second Premier League win. Gareth has deserved to win every week since he took over from Benoit Assou-Ekotto so it’s good to see him getting three points. It’s just a shame he plays for my team’s biggest rivals.

Championship Posponement 20th February
Peterborough United P-P Sheffield United
This game was postponed because Peterborough’s pitch was frozen. Peterborough defender Craig Morgan really wants to play for Wales against England but he doesn’t think he’s got much chance. I would be inclined to agree in theory but passion goes a long way. Well it goes a long way with me and I have nothing to do with the Wales squads.
Sheffield United’s Ched Evans could also be thinking of Wales might be hoping for a start against England but even a start against Peterborough wouldn’t have been certain. He’s worked hard but he hasn’t scored the goals.

Rotherham United v Shrewsbury Town
Rotherham have enough games in hand to join the automatic promotion push but first they have to get past Shrewsbury – who have been doing very well. Will Richards was rumoured to be in line for a start in the Shrews’ last match but he wasn’t even on the bench.

League Two Results 20th February Part 2
Darlington 2-3 Chesterfield
Darlington were 2-0 up and cruising and looked on course for a vital win but then Chesterfield scored three goals in the last ten minutes. Chesterfield had Robert Page in defence and Mark Crossley on the bench.
Hereford 3-4 Burton Albion
This game was full of goalscorers who hadn’t scored for three or four years and one of them was Burton defender Tony James. His 96th minute goal gave Burton all three points after going 3-1 down to Hereford. Tony used to play for Hereford and was given the chance to return during the January transfer window but now he might be quite glad he turned it down after scoring his first goal for Burton – and his first ever headed goal. Ryan Valentine and Darren Jones were both in defence for Wigan but Ryan Green was only fit enough for the bench.
Port Vale 0-2 Barnet
Port Vale found themselves on the losing side again as Barnet got a very welcome win at last. Gareth Owen returned from injury to start in defence for Vale with Craig Davies and Lewis Haldane on the attack.
Rochdale 3-1 Dagenham & Redbridge
A point at leaders Rochdale would have been a more than acceptable result for Dagenham and until the 83rd minute it looked like that was exactly what was going to happen. Tony Roberts, a cult hero for Daggers fans, had another good performance and really made friends with his goalposts by kissing them every time they helped him out. But he still ended up on the losing side. Lucky goalpost, getting kissed by a Welsh footballer.

League Two Results 20th February Part 1
Accrington Stanley 2-0 Bradford City
Michael Flynn was one if Bradford’s best players as they found themselves on the losing side again. But they do have a good new manager. (No, he’s not Welsh and don’t worry Michael, he knows all about boots and backsides. As you might know by now.)
Bournemouth 1-1 Macclesfield Town
Bournemouth got a late equaliser against Macclesfield to claim a point for Bourmemouth – and deny Macclesfield a first win of the calendar year. Rhoys Wiggins gave another good display in defence for Bournemouth (I probably shouldn’t mention the yellow card). Matthew Tipton stayed on the bench for Macclesfield.
Cheltenham Town 2-0 Morecambe
Cheltenham got a very welcome win over Morecambe to move them further from the relegation places. Josh Low is glad to be a regular in Cheltenham’s team but feels they need to do more in home matches and approach them with the same determination with which they approach away games. He has a point – or rather, three points. Darren Moss on the bench for Morecambe.
Crewe Alexandra 3-2 Northampton Town
Crewe lost their two-goal lead when Northampton brought it back to 2-2 but Crewe managed to hang on for a rare win while Northampton were condemned to a rare away defeat – their first since November. Peter Gilbert was one of five Northampton players to receive a yellow card.

League One Results 20th February Part 2
Gillingham 1-0 Bristol Rovers
It was a great three points for Gillingham – the goal not coming until the second minute of stoppage time - but unfortunately I was supporting Bristol Rovers in this one. Byron Anthony kept his place in the starting line-up (with the apparently non-Welsh Rhys Evans also getting a surprise start). Ben Swallow came on after 73 minutes.
Leeds United 1-1 Brighton & Hove Albion
Ten-man Brighton were so unlucky not to win this, with Leeds’ equaliser not coming until the fifth minute of stoppage time and it was a penalty too. Could it have been more heartbreaking for Brighton? Andrew Crofts as always gave a strong performance and remains in with a chance of representing Wales, despite being in a League One team in a relegation battle.
Milton Keynes 3-1 Southend United
MK Dons needed to bounce back from their 5-0 thrashing of Carlisle United. Jermaine Easter was back following suspension and claimed the first assist. He also tried to claim the second goal as it came off his shin but no-one seems to agree with him. Sanchez Watt returned from injury to play for Southend and was a big threat.
Norwich City 0-2 Southampton
None of these two sides’ young Welsh players appeared but Southampton nevertheless got a great win over the league leaders. I’m not sure why Lloyd James didn’t play as he has been a regular for Southampton – I haven’t heard about an injury.
Tranmere Rovers 2-1 Leyton Orient
Both sides were without their inspirational Welsh players with Tranmere’s Ash Taylor injured and Orient’s Nicky Adams no longer belonging to Orient – he’s returned to parent side Leicester City, for whom he played no part today.
Walsall 2-1 Brentford
Rhys Weston was not sufficiently recovered from his hamstring injury to play and Mark Bradley again started on the bench although he did come on early in the second half. Lewis Price got a surprise recall to the bench for Brentford.

League One Results 20th February Part 1
Charlton Athletic 2-0 Yeovil Town
Charlton finally managed to get their automatic promotion chase back on course with a win over Yeovil, who are starting to look worryingly close to the relegation places again. Charlton were missing Grant Basey, who has ankle ligament problems but they still got their first win for over a month. Arron Davies, Owain Tudur Jones and Shaun MacDonald all started for Yeovil with Owain not far from pulling a goal back.
Colchester United 1-0 Oldham Athletic
Colchester kept pressure on the top two with a win over struggling Oldham. Colchester were still without both their injured Welshman, as they have been for most of the campaign but Oldham had Joe Jacobson and Jason Price in the starting line-up. Jason hit a post with a good header but that was the closest Oldham came.
Exeter City 0-1 Stockport County
Stockport won for the first time in the league since October while Exeter find themselves in the relegation places for the first time. Of the two Welsh keepers, it was Stockport’s Owain fon Williams who came out on top – this will be a big confidence boost after an error in his last match. Andy Marriott did play well in goal for Exeter with support from Richard Duffy and Rob Edwards. Stuart Fleetwood got a start and came close for Exeter.

Championship Results 20th February Part 3
Plymouth Argyle 1-1 Leicester City
Plymouth again showed their determination to get out of trouble but they couldn’t get more than a point against Leicester after scoring a horrible own goal. Carl Fletcher could have won the three points for Plymouth but his shot was cleared off the line. Andy King played for Leicester but there wasn’t even a place on the bench for Leicester midfielder Nicky Adams, who recently returned from Leyton Orient on loan.
Queen’s Park Rangers 2-1 Doncaster Rovers
QPR’s bad run came to an end – at least for now – with a victory over Doncaster Rovers. Brian Stock could have scored after receiving the ball from John Oster but it wasn’t to be – Brian has been outstanding but he’s probably still not quite at his best following his long injury lay-off. The injured Gareth Roberts was able to make a late appearance from the bench.

Derby County 0-1 Swansea City
Derby could find themselves in trouble again after another bad-tempered match. Robbie Savage this time was very much the victim – a horrible tackle could, according to the Football League Show, have ended his career. At the very least, he was very lucky he was able to get up and carry on playing. David Cotterill got the assist for Swansea’s goal with another excellent free kick. Ashley Williams, Joe Allen and Jazz Richards all started the match with only Joe being substituted – I hope that was tactical rather than because of another horrible tackle. Joe says Robbie came up to him after the Wales v Scotland game and told him he’d played well. I think it’s brilliant Robbie is so supportive of the younger players and also great that he went to the match at all when he doesn’t get on with the manager. David Cornell was on the bench.
Newcastle United 3-0 Preston North End
Paul Parry can’t come back to Preston soon enough. Being beaten by the league leaders on their own ground isn’t really too much to worry about but Preston’s league position probably still is.
Nottingham Forest 1-0 Middlesbrough
Robert Earnshaw had several chances to score his 151st league goal but Boro goalkeeper Danny Coyne did well only to let in one of Forest’s attempts on goal. Chris Gunter helped Forest to another clean sheet. For the second time in recent games, Chris should have won a penalty but he didn’t.

Championship Results 20th February Part 1
Blackpool 2-0 Reading
Reading’s four-match unbeaten run came to an end at Blackpool, who are now just one point outside the play-offs, albeit with more games played. Rob Edwards was suspended and Daniel Nardiello missed out with a groin injury while Neal Eardley was only fit enough for the bench. But Blackpool did have David Vaughan and without his excellent block, Reading would almost certainly have been level. David also came close to scoring and looks certain to be included in the Wales squad against Swindon, a call-up he thoroughly deserves. Simon Church played the first 54 minutes before injuring his foot. He’s now a doubt for the FA Cup replay against West Bromwich Albion which is very bad news for Reading.
Cardiff City 0-2 Barnsley
The injury list again took its toll on Cardiff as Barnsley beat them for the second time in the league this season – the first time this has happened for 51 years. Aaron Wildig did his best to play through an ongoing back injury but he was forced to withdraw after 35 minutes. Adam Matthews came off the bench at half-time, appearing for the first time in four matches, and certainly Barnsley didn’t score any more goals after that. Darcy Blake, who has had back and leg problems, stayed on the bench. Manager Dave Jones and coach Terry Burton have both talked to Darcy about his timekeeping and his diet and general attitude to training (which would explain why such a good player spends so much time in the bench, even during an injury crisis) and he’s determined to try to improve.
Crystal Palace 0-1 Coventry City
Crystal Palace look deep in trouble again as Coventry claimed an away win late on. Coventry were in Palace’s position not so long ago but now they’re just five points outside the play-offs. A knock kept Freddy Eastwood on the bench but apparently he’s very much in John Toshack’s thoughts.

Premier League Results 20th February
Arsenal 2-0 Sunderland
Arsenal were both lucky and unlucky in this game. They were very lucky to win a debatable penalty but unlucky not to have been so far ahead, the penalty didn’t matter. Aaron Ramsey played the full match and was a lively presence. He came close to scoring but there were a lot of Sunderland players in the way.
Everton 3-1 Manchester United
Ryan Giggs was missing – as were several others, including a number of player who were actually on the pitch – and the Champions feel victim to a side who were also having a bit of an injury crisis.
Portsmouth 1-2 Stoke City
Stoke came from behind to beat a Portsmouth side who battled well but couldn’t quite hang onto a point with Stoke getting their winner in injury time. Ryan Shawcross and Danny Collins both looked good in defence with Ryan, who wore the captain’s armband, also an attacking threat.
West Ham 3-0 Hull City
West Ham have struggled at times but on this showing, they really are too good to go down. Jack Collison came on in the closing stages for West Ham. Boaz Myhill again pulled off some great saves but on hit own he just couldn’t keep Hull in the game.
Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-2 Chelsea
Wolves played well and took the game to the league leaders but in the end Chelsea were too strong for them. Wayne Hennessey and Sam Vokes were unused substitutes for Wolves.

Championship Fixture 21st February
Bristol City v West Bromwich Albion
Lewin Nyatanga has been a regular in Bristol City’s defence in 2010 but they have struggled. Gavin Williams and James Wilson are options but as they don’t always make the bench, a place in the starting line-up is far from guaranteed even if there is a reshuffle in defence.

Premier League Fixtures 21st February
Aston Villa v Burnley
James Collins should keep his place in Aston Villa’s side. James is one of probably relatively few footballers still on Twitter and his comment about his girlfriend has caused much amusement. Not that I think it’s funny.
Blackburn Rovers v Bolton Wanderers
Jason Brown will probably be on the bench for the home side. Sam Ricketts has done well for Bolton lately and his enjoying being a centre back so I’d expect him to play. But whether I expect him to be on the winning side is a different matter entirely.
Fulham v Birmingham City
Simon Davies has done well since his latest injury comeback and has already scored his first goal of the season. But Fulham have a busy schedule at the moment so he might need a rest.
Simon was considering retiring from Wales (he’s about at the average age for retirement) but luckily drawing England in the qualifiers has changed his mind. I just hope Wales draw England for the next lot of World Cup qualifiers too. He doesn’t want to play in the Wales friendly against Sweden but I can’t really blame him. If Fulham don’t give him a rest then Wales will have to. It’s just going to be difficult with Joe Ledley out too.
Manchester City v Liverpool
Craig Bellamy is still having problems with his dodgy knee but reports suggest he’ll play anyway. He has just had another argument with Roberto Mancini but that probably doesn’t mean anything. As long as Craig is breathing, he’s going to have arguments and I definitely want him to keep breathing.
Wigan Athletic v Tottenham Hotspur
Jason Koumas has been told he can go on loan so I doubt he’ll want to risk injury by playing for Wigan, even if they did want him to play. Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion are both interested and I’m sure Jason would prefer a promotion push to a relegation battle.
Gareth Bale should keep his place on Tottenham’s starting line-up. This won’t be another 9-1 but it could easily be another three points for Tottenham.

League Two Fixtures 20th February Part 2
Darlington v Chesterfield
A win would help consolidate Chesterfield’s position in the play-offs and Darlington don’t let many teams lose to them. I would expect Robert Page to start for Chesterfield with Mark Crossley on the bench although Mark does get the odd start now and then.
Hereford United v Burton Albion
Ryan Green probably won’t have recovered from his hernia problem in time for this game. Ryan Valentine and Darren Jones don’t seem to have picked up any new injuries but they still might not play as several Hereford players are reportedly suffering from a bug. Tony James’ Burton will be aiming to beat them and not catch it.
Port Vale v Barnet
Gareth Owen has a good chance of returning to the starting line-up after shaking off a hamstring injury (I assume this isn’t meant literally). Craig Davies and Lewis Haldane both scored their first Port Vale goals recently – maybe they ca add to them against Barnet, who don’t win a lot of games.
Rochdale v Dagenham & Redbridge
After beating Bournemouth last week, Tony Roberts’ side now set their sights even higher – beating the league leaders.

League Two Fixtures 20th February Part 1
Accrington Stanley v Bradford City
Bradford have a new boss and I’d expect him to give Michael Flynn a start but who knows?
Bournemouth v Macclesfield Town
A defeat for Bournemouth could see them slip to third but they do still have Rhoys Wiggins on loan. Joe Partington is still injured but Sportinglife except him to return to training on Monday. Matthew Tipton will probably be on the bench for Macclesfield.
Cheltenham Town v Morecambe
Josh Low’s Cheltenham will be looking for another win which will take them eight points clear of the relegation zone as long as Grimsby Town don’t win. Darren Moss will probably be on the bench as Morecambe see what they can do about getting into those play-offs. They’re not far off but they need Notts County to lose some games.
Crewe Alexandra v Northampton Town
Northampton might be too far away from the play-offs to make a late surge… but they might not be. Defender Peter Gilbert will be helping to prevent Crewe from scoring.

League One Fixtures 20th February Part 3
Norwich City v Southampton
Southampton were looking like play-off contenders at one point but a series of disappointing results means they wouldn’t be in the play-offs even if they got their ten points back and won their two games in hand. They do have some good players though, including Lloyd James, who was excellent until he was inexplicably dropped to the bench.
Tranmere Rovers v Leyton Orient
Tranmere Rovers are only in the relegation places on goal difference so a win over Orient, who have lost Nicky Adams to parent club Leicester City, could move them out of immediate danger – which would be a great achievement considering how far adrift they were. No word on whether Ash Taylor is likely to return for Tranmere.
Walsall v Brentford
Rhys Weston again misses out for Walsall with a hamstring injury but it’s not impossible Mark Bradley will return to the starting line-up as his half-time appearance surely helped inspire Walsall’s win over Leeds United. Well I like to think it did. Brentford will probably leave out Lewis Price again.

League One Fixtures 20th February Part 2
Exeter City v Stockport County
Exeter are one point outside the relegation zone and a win over Stockport, who have failed to lose just nine games this season, is probably expected by their supporters. Andy Marriott has been on great form since regaining his place in the Exeter goal with Rob Edwards also recently becoming a regular alongside Richard Duffy. Stuart Fleetwood is also in contention for a start.
Stockport also have a Welsh goalkeeper, Owain fon Williams. Owain had a bad game against Colchester last weekend but his manager Gary Ablett has defended him and quite right too. Without Owain, Stockport would probably be relegated by now.
Gillingham v Bristol Rovers
Bristol Rovers hadn’t won for so long and when they finally did, they only beat Charlton Athletic. So in theory, they should have no trouble with Gillingham although unfortunately football doesn’t always work like that. Byron Anthony will probably start for Rovers with Ben Swallow on the bench.
Leeds United v Brighton & Hove Albion
Leeds and Brighton have both struggled lately although Brighton did come heartbreakingly close to a win over Norwich City. Maybe this time Andrew Crofts’ team can complete the job. I’m sure a lot of people would really like it if they could.
Milton Keynes Dons v Southend United
Jermaine Easter is back in MK Dons’ side after completing his two-match suspension. After being thrashed by Carlisle United last time out, MK Dons really need to bounce back.
Loanee Sanchez Watt could return for Southend after recovering from a sprained ankle. Sanchez has been called up for the England under-19s but he’ll always be a Welsh player to
League One Fixtures 20th February Part 1
Charlton Athletic v Yeovil Town
Not so long ago, Charlton looked like certainties to go up with Leeds United. Now they’re in fourth, two points behind Colchester United. Charlton will be relieved that Grant Basey hasn’t broken his leg but his ankle ligament problems will keep him out probably for 6-8 weeks.
Yeovil’s midfield is set to include Arron Davies, Shaun MacDonald and Owain Tudur Jones. Assistant manager Nathan Jones hasn’t been getting into the team recently, even though Yeovil have only had six substitutes so I don’t know what’s up with him but he is the assistant manager so he's probably quite busy.
Colchester United v Oldham Athletic
If you’d told me these two teams’ league positions at the start of the season, I’d have thought you’d got them confused. But no, Colchester really are in third place, just three points behind Leeds, whilst Oldham are three places and two points outside the relegation zone. Christian Ribeiro (groin) and Lee Beevers (I thought shoulder but BBC Sport says knee) are still not available to play for Colchester.
Christian’s loan expires next weekend but Colchester are hoping to take him on loan again. Christian is hoping to play for Wales against England. It’s always good to hear that from a Wales player and I hope he gets selected.
As far as I know Joe Jacobson and loanee Jason Price from Millwall will be in Oldham’s squad. Joe believes Oldham will escape relegation and climb the table and I’d say he’s probably right, I’m not sure what Oldham are doing down there in the first place.

Championship Fixtures 20th February Part 3
Peterborough United v Sheffield United
Peterborough will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run for three games – it might not sound that much but every point is welcome when you’re bottom of the table. Craig Morgan scored Peterborough’s winning goal in their last match as well as looking solid in defence. He could be up against Sheffield United striker Ched Evans.
Plymouth Argyle v Leicester City
Plymouth are unbeaten in their last three games with captain Carl Fletcher a key player for them – he’s even been scoring goals recently. Nicky Adams will be hoping for a start after impressing on loan at Leyton Orient and coming on as a substitute in his first game back with Leicester. Andy King is one of the midfielders he could replace although obviously I don’t want Andy to be dropped. Meanwhile, former Plymouth keeper Kyle Letheren seems to have joined Galway United.
Queen’s Park Rangers v Doncaster Rovers
Doncaster aren’t looking a bit like relegation candidates and now they take on QPR who seem to have lost nearly as many managers as they have matches. Gareth Roberts is back in training for Doncaster following a knee injury and is expected to be fit to play alongside (or more accurately behind) midfielders John Oster and Brian Stock, who have been in great form for Doncaster.

Championship Fixtures 20th February Part 2
Derby County v Swansea City
Robbie Savage hopes to lead revitalised Derby to another win over a top Championship club. Ashley Williams, Jazz Richards, David Cotterill and Joe Allen might all start for Swansea – or they might not.
Newcastle United v Preston North End
Newcastle are unbeaten at home this season so a win for Preston doesn’t look like the most likely outcome. Preston are still without Paul Parry.
Nottingham Forest v Middlesbrough
If Nottingham Forest win, they’ll equal a club record of nine consecutive home wins in a season. Forest have been rather good at keeping runs going this season. Robert Earnshaw really deserves to start after scoring his 150th league goal against Sheffield United and I expect Chris Gunter to keep his place in defence. Middlesbrough probably won’t have Rhys Williams back from a pelvis injury but Danny Coyne will be in goal. Danny recently took part in a community event to help young goalkeepers and it sounds as though he – and they – really enjoyed it. Danny is also taking his UEFA ‘A’ licence which means he’s nearly qualified to manage a Premier League club.

Championship Fixtures 20th February Part 1
Blackpool v Reading
Blackpool will be a bit short of Welshness for this match. Rob Edwards is suspended after being sent off against Middlesbrough while Neal Eardley and Daniel Nardiello have knee and groin injuries respectively. Luckily David Vaughan still seems to be fit. Simon Church scored twice in Reading’s last match and will have a chance to keep the run going as he’s expected to start.
Cardiff City v Barnsley
Cardiff are undoubtedly still in the play-off race as (apart from Leicester), the teams immediately below them have played two more games then them. And considering all the problems they’ve been having, it’s a great achievement that they’re as high as they are. But this is a match they should probably win. Aaron Wildig is still having back problems but Cardiff will start him if he comes though a fitness test. Darcy Blake also has a knock which could be related to his own recent back problem. Adam Matthews seems to be fit but he’s been left on the bench recently as Cardiff manager Dave Jones thinks he’s played too many games already. Joe Ledley is still out after having his hip operations.
Crystal Palace v Coventry City
At first the ten-point deduction didn’t seem to bother Palace at all but now they’re looking vulnerable again. Freddy Eastwood has a hamstring problem but he is expected to recover in time to play for Coventry.

Premier League Fixtures 20th February
Arsenal v Sunderland
Arsenal will hope to bounce back from their defeat to Porto with a win over the only side outside the current Top Four (Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City) to have beaten them in the League this season. Aaron Ramsey isn’t in BBC Sport’s matchday squad but maybe they made a mistake. I hope so, Aaron’s creativity and eye for goal could be just what Arsenal need.
Everton v Manchester United
Manchester United are without Ryan Giggs, who has a broken arm. Both sides are missing some key players so let’s see what happens. It’ll probably be an away win but we can hope.
Portsmouth v Stoke City
Portsmouth are almost certainly going down but that doesn’t mean they can’t put up a good fight when it suits them. And Stoke aren’t nearly as good away as they are at home. After impressing as a substitute, Danny Collins could start for Stoke if Danny Higginbotham is ruled out. Ryan Shawcross should keep his place. He did well to recover from an error in his last game but one and his goal for Stoke in the last game really should have stood.
West Ham United v Hull City
It’s another one of those relegation clash things. West Ham probably have the stronger squad but Hull have beaten better teams than West Ham. Jack Collison is in West Ham’s squad and is hoping to get back into the starting line-up after being surprisingly dropped. Danny Gabbidon is still absent with a hamstring problem but he’s expected to return to full training soon. I think the Hull manager would have to be mad to drop Boaz Myhill but the Hull manager is Phil Brown… Jimmy Bullard could play too. He’s not Welsh but I really wish he was.
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Chelsea
Wolves’ win over Tottenham was the first in the League since beating Burnley in early December. Mick McCarthy says he will name the same starting line-up as last time so that means no start for Wayne Hennessey or Sam Vokes although they will be on the bench and Sam now seems to be the first reserve striker as Chris Iwelumo has been sent out on loan. Dave Edwards is still out with an ankle injury but apparently he’s not far away from making his comeback.

League Two Fixture 19th February
Bury v Shrewsbury Town
A win for Shrewsbury would put them ahead of Bury on goal difference although Bury will have played one game fewer. However Shrewsbury will only go second of Rotherham United fail to beat Torquay United. An article in the Shropshire Star suggests Will Richards is in line to start this match.

Europa League Result 18th February
Fulham 2-1 Shakhtar Donetsk
Simon Davies managed another ninety minutes as Fulham won the home leg against Shakhtar Donetsk. Goal.com said he looked like a player who’s just come back from injury but why shouldn’t he, he is a player who’s just come back from injury. And looking at the more detailed match reports, he seemed pretty active and involved to me.

Champions' League Result 17th February
FC Porto 2-1 Arsenal
Not the result I was hoping for, but perhaps not a surprising one considering the number of players Arsenal have out injured - practically the whole team. And at least they have an away goal, the first leg may be lost but there's a second leg still to play. Aaron Ramsey stayed on the bench.

Championship Results 17th February
Crystal Palace 1-3 Reading
Reading continue their run of good form – but sadly the same can’t be said for Crippled Alice. Simon Church scored not one but two goals for Reading before being substituted in the third minute of extra time. So I hope that was an ovation thing and not an injury thing, for Reading’s sake as well as Wales’.
Newcastle United 4-1 Coventry City
Newcastle continue their rampage back to the Premier League with a big win over Coventry. Freddy Eastwood started for Coventry but was replaced before the hour mark.

Premier League Result 17th February
Wigan Athletic 0-0 Bolton Wanderers
The match ended in a stalemate for these two clubs although perhaps they’ll take consolation from the clean sheet. Sam Ricketts played the full game for Bolton but there was again no place in Wigan’s squad for Jason Koumas. A loan spell surely beckons.

Europa League Fixture 17th February
Fulham v Shakhtar Donetsk
Fulham take on the side who are technically the holders, as they won the UEFA Cup last year. Along the way, Shakhtar knocked out a Tottenham reserve side. Simon Davies is in the provisional squad for Fulham and there are no reports of him still having trouble with his ankle.

League Two Result 16th February
Hereford United 3-0 Aldershot Town
Hereford moved up to 16th with a win over Aldershot Town, denying them a place in the play-offs. Ryan Valentine was back in the starting line-up alongside Darren Jones. Ryan got another yellow card but at least it wasn’t red. There were rumours that Ryan Green could have played some part in this game but he only had hernia surgery like five minutes ago so it wasn’t a huge surprise he wasn’t there. I hope he’s back soon though.
Morecambe 3-2 Burton Albion
Burton took the lead twice, only for Morecambe to equalisers, but it was the home side who finally grabbed all three points in the 85th minute. Darren Moss was on the bench for Morecambe but Tony James played in defence for Burton. I’m sure he was good though.

Leeds United 1-2 Walsall
A great away win for Walsall – and a great result for Norwich City and Charlton Athletic too. This marks Leeds’ first home defeat in twenty-six matches.
Mark Bradley came off the bench for Walsall at half-time and he hadn’t been on the pitch for a minute before Walsall scored, Mark being one of those who helped to set up the goal.
Rhys Weston, who didn’t play of course due to his hamstring injury, has praised Walsall’s youth development policy and hopes other clubs will begin to follow their lead.
Yeovil Town 0-1 Colchester United
Arron Davies finally managed to make his second debut for Yeovil and did well – it’s just a shame Yeovil didn’t actually get any points out of it. Owain Tudur Jones came close to grabbing Yeovil a point at the end but still, it’s not a bad result against Colchester, who moved ahead of Charlton into third place, despite the absence of injury victims Lee Beevers and Christian Ribeiro. Nathan Jones was again missing for Yeovil but Shaun MacDonald played, meaning that Yeovil officially have one of the Welshest midfields in the League. Only Cardiff and Swansea could equal their three Welsh midfielders and you’d expect them to be able to really.

Championship Results 16th February Part 3
Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Doncaster Rovers
Sheffield Wednesday might not be as high up the table as Doncaster but they’re a big club and they’ve won their last four home matches so I say it’s a great away win for Doncaster, who are now almost looking like Premier League hopefuls.
Gareth Roberts of course was out with a knee injury but John Oster and Brian Stock both started and could have scored. John’s 20-yard effort caused real problems for Wednesday’s goalkeeper and Doncaster were unlucky not to get to the loose ball. Brian was substituted after 86 minutes as a precaution but he seems to be okay.

Championship Results 16th February Part 2
Nottingham Forest 1-0 Sheffield United
Robert Earnshaw’s fourth-minute goal wasn’t just the winning goal. It was also the striker’s 150th league goal. Congratulations to Rob and I hope he got lots of big applause when he was substituted late on. Chris Gunter showed he’s an attacking threat as well as a good defender – and hopefully this is the start of another run of clean sheets for the right back. Sheffield United’s Ched Evans came off the bench after 78 minutes.
Peterborough United 3-1 Ipswich Town
If Peterborough can survive, that would really be something but you can’t say they’re not going the right way about it. Another win – and it was against the team they want to send into the bottom three in their place. The winning goal was a powerful header from Craig Morgan.
Plymouth Argyle 1-1 Swansea City
You know, maybe Plymouth will escape too. Okay the chances of them both escaping doesn’t look very likely at all but there’s nothing like a great escape in football. Fulham did it, Brighton did it (one of my first football memories), it does happen.
Carl Fletcher had a starring role in the best moment of the match, where the unpopular referee got a ball in the face and Carl called for a replacement. And his football was at least equal to his wit – it was another solid performance in central defence.
Ashley Richards made a surprise start for Swansea – his first I believe although it seems I must now call him Jazz Richards which will make things easier given that Swansea have another Ashley in the squad.
Ashley Williams was the only other Welshman in the starting line-up. Joe Allen was a late substitute but David Cotterill, who scored yet another spectacular goal for Swansea in their last match, was left on the bench alongside substitute keeper David Cornell. I really don’t understand Paolo Sousa’s selection methods but let’s look at the positives, maybe David Cornell will get a start soon.
David, Daniel Alfei, Joe Walsh, Matty Collins and Chad Bond all played as Swansea Reserves beat Bristol City Reserves 2-1.

Championship Results 16th February Part 1
Blackpool 2-0 Middlesbrough
A win for Blackpool brought them level on points with Middlesbrough and ahead of them on goal difference. It could have been very different – if Middlesbrough had scored their penalty the score would have been 1-1 and then Blackpool’s second goal might never have happened.
Ian Holloway still wouldn’t let naughty Neal Eardley play but maybe he really is injured (it’s his knee) although Ollie could be wanting him back next week as Rob Edwards has earned himself another red card.
David Vaughan was one of Blackpool’s key players for the first 81 minutes (I really hope that was a tactical substitution) but Daniel Nardiello is still out with a groin injury.
Daniel says his dream is to play for Coventry City. It would be a bit of a step-down but I can understand. If I was playing for Manchester United and Arsene Wenger showed an interest I’d come running.
Danny Coyne did make some good saves for Boro - without him, it could have been more than 2-0. But that might not be a lot of comfort for Boro fans.
Bristol City 1-1 Leicester City
Poor Bristol City. When David Clarkson scored in the first minute of injury time, they probably thought they’d won it. But a minute later, it was Leicester’s turn to put the ball into the back of the net. Last-minute equalisers are always cruel but when the opening goal came so late, perhaps it hurts even more.
Lewin Nyatanga gave a strong defensive performance for Bristol City but Gavin Williams was back on the bench. And so was James Wilson – either he’s changed his squad number or I wrote it down incorrectly on my spreadsheet or possibly I forgot to change his squad number when he returned from his loan spell at Brentford. So it’s probably my fault isn’t it?
Nicky Adams was on the bench for Leicester after being forced to return from lovely Leyton Orient where he was so happy but Leicester put him on after 73 minutes so at least it seems as though they really want him. Andy King did well in Leicester’s three-man midfield. He might not be scoring at the moment but he’s still creating chances.
Cardiff City 1-1 West Bromwich Albion
It’s actually a pretty good point for an injury-ravaged Cardiff, who probably didn’t really want to be facing any automatic promotion contenders at this time. But they went ahead after 8 minutes when they won a penalty (naturally West Brom think it wasn’t one) and they were really quite unlucky to be in a match with four minutes of added time at the end of the first half. That really was adding insult to injury.
But it happened and Cardiff survived. Aaron Wildig, who is still troubled by back problems, had an excellent first half before tiring in the second and being replaced by Darcy Blake, who also played well having recovered (I hope!) from his own back injury. Manager Dave Jones feels Aaron needs to bulk up but he can’t lift weights because of his back. Adam Matthews was on the bench.

Premier League Result 16th February
Stoke City 1-1 Manchester City
It happened in the FA Cup and now it’s happened again in the League. It’s official – Stoke City are just as good as Manchester City. Manchester City were however missing the injured Craig Bellamy, whose knee often does seem to play up when there’s a Wales friendly on the horizon. I’m not doubting Craig’s commitment to Wales, not at all, I’m just doubting his knee’s commitment.
But Stoke were also missing a player – they played most of the second half with ten men. Ryan Shawcross had a stoppage-time goal ruled out as the referee though he’d fouled the keeper. Ryan didn’t think so and even after watching a video of the incident, he still doesn’t think he fouled him.
Danny Collins started off on the bench as usual but he came on for the second half.

AC Milan 2-3 Manchester United
Ryan Giggs missed this match with a broken arm but a good result for Manchester United. It’s a win and they’ve got two away goals and probably only Leeds United relish a trip to Old Trafford.

Champions' League Fixture 17th February
FC Porto v Arsenal
Aaron Ramsey is in Arsenal’s squad to face Porto. Good thing too because hardly anyone else is. No Almunia, no Gallas, no Arshavin, no Song, no Eduardo, no van Persie of course and we’ve only got Vermaelen because he’s agreed to play through the pain. Are any other Arsenal fans really scared?

Premier League Fixtures 17th February
Wigan Athletic v Bolton Wanderers
Both sides are nearer to the relegation zone than they want to be (although I suppose the same could be said about Manchester United, currently second in the table) so they’ll both be wanting three points from this (just as I’m sure they do for almost every other game).
Jason Koumas isn’t in the squad and it looks like he’s going to go on loan. West Brom look like the most likely club at the moment but I’d rather he went to Cardiff because they wanted him before and they are really struggling for players at the moment. But anywhere where he’s going to be appreciated would be great.
Sam Ricketts could be playing centre back again for Bolton but I expect him to keep his place in the side. Okay so he conceded a penalty in the last game but it was very harsh and Tottenham missed it so no harm done.
Crystal Palace v Reading
It’s the battle of two of the FA Cup giant-killers. Reading need a win to climb out of the relegation zone. Palace need a draw to ensure they don’t slide into it. Simon Church looks very likely to start as one of their main goalscorers is suspended and another is an injury doubt.
Newcastle United v Coventry City
Newcastle have injured players all over the place so Coventry’s Freddy Eastwood may fancy his chances. I fancy his chances too and I want to see him in the Wales v Sweden squad.

League One Result 15th February
Bristol Rovers 2-1 Charlton Athletic
Charlton’s worrying run continues with defeat to Bristol Rovers, a side that haven’t exactly been noted for beating the top teams lately. Or any teams. The loss of Grant Basey to a suspected broken leg after 12 seconds must have been difficult for Charlton though – even if they could manage without him, the players are human and they could have been feeling worried or upset, no matter how professional they are. Their goal didn’t come until the seventh minute of stoppage time.
Byron Anthony played at right back for Bristol Rovers and was lucky not to concede a penalty. Ben Swallow stayed on the bench.
And BBC Sport reports that Grant has ankle ligament damage, not a broken leg. I’m not sure I’d call that good news and ligament damage can be pretty serious too but it looks as though he’s expected back before the end of the season. Get well soon, Grant.

Champions' League Fixture 16th February
AC Milan v Manchester United
Most people are going on about a certain former Manchester United player who now plays for AC Milan but I don’t give a shit about that. I’m just sad Ryan Giggs is likely to be out for a month with a broken arm. Not that I’d mind too much if Manchester United lost.

League Two Fixtures 16th February
Hereford United v Aldershot Town
Darren Jones was the only Welshman to feature for Hereford recently but Ryan Valentine is back from suspension and is an option. Ryan Green, who recently had hernia surgery, is also in with a chance of featuring for Hereford.
Morecambe v Burton Albion
Morecambe will probably keep Darren Moss on the bench like they usually do but Tony James is certain to play (barring last-minute illness/injuries) after some excellent performances in defence for Burton.
