FA Cup Results November 28th 2009 Part 2

Northampton 2-3 Southampton
Southampton won the linguistic derby despite resting Lloyd James, who has been excellent recently. Defender Peter Gilbert did some good defensive work for Northampton, who were playing a team in the league above them.

Northwich Victoria 1-3 Lincoln City
Lincoln City beat the non-league side despite the absence of the injured Anthony Pulis.
A surprising number of Welsh players have played for Northwich but none seem to be there now and they're probably quire glad they don't considering they'd have been knocked out of the Cup.

Oxford United 1-1 Barrow

Gareth Jelleyman – said to be the best left back in non-league and I won’t argue with that – provided enough blocks and crosses to force a replay against Oxford.

Port Vale 0-1 Huddersfield Town
Gareth Owen wasn’t able to play for Vale after having an operation on his fractured cheekbone. Lewis Haldane was a doubt due to a knee injury but he still played the complete match. He is on loan from Bristol Rovers but as Bristol Rovers were knocked out in the last match they probably decided they might as well let him be Cup-tied… not that he’ll get to play any more FA Cup games this season. Port Vale boss Micky Adams wants to sign Lewis permanently in January.

Staines Town 1-1 Millwall
Jason Price only played the first half of the match and I’m sure that’s part of the reason why Millwall will have to play a replay against non-league Staines. I don’t think Jason was injured but he is said to be struggling for fitness following an injury

Stockport County P-P Torquay United
Stockport left it to the last minute to ask Bristol City for permission to play loanee Christian Ribeiro but they didn’t get it but I suppose they can always ask again before the rescheduled match. They might have changed their minds by then, you never know. Owain Fon Williams would have played for Stockport if the match had gone ahead.

Tranmere Rovers 0-1 Aldershot
Ash Taylor played very well but he is a defender so Tranmere can’t expect him to score every week. He came close though.
