Championship Results 5th December Part 1

Blackpool 1-2 Barnsley
Neal Eardley finally got back into the side, only to discover Blackpool were playing Barnsley who have been shooting up the table quicker than any team have a right to. Neal did get two shots on goal though. David Vaughan and Rob Edwards also played – David nearly scored for Blackburn but then he did score for Barnsley. It would have been better the other way around but at least he can put balls in the net. One of Barnsley’s goals was a penalty after Rob handled the ball but even the Barnsley players didn’t think it was a penalty. So Blackpool were unlucky.

Bristol City 0-0 Ipswich Town
Lewin Nyatanga helped Bristol City to keep a clean sheet and I’m sure Gavin Williams would have helped too if he’d come onto the pitch.

Cardiff City 1-0 Preston North End
Preston’s Paul Parry faced his old club. He probably didn’t manage to make Cardiff fans wish he hadn’t left but maybe he managed to make himself regret the move. Cardiff’s Joe Ledley joined left the field after 64 minutes after suffering a groin injury. But that might not be all bad news. If he’s going to be injured for a while, he could always get his hip sorted out. Adam Matthews stayed on the bench.

Crystal Palace 0-3 Doncaster Rovers
John Oster – who used to play for Palace - made Doncaster’s first shot on goal after 84 seconds. It didn’t go in but Doncaster kept on trying and it paid off - unlike John’s wages, which were ten days late. John got the assist for Doncaster’s second goal and according to the Daily Mail he was their best player. Gareth Roberts played his part too, making a vital block to ensure Doncaster kept a clean sheet.

Derby County 2-2 West Bromwich Albion
Robbie Savage played as Derby got an excellent point against West Brom who look certain to be going up again. Of course they also look certain to be coming straight back down again but they can hope. West Brom nearly went a man down after one of their players reacted to a Savage challenge from Robbie.
