Everton 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham might easily not have gone 2-0 up if Gareth Bale hadn’t come on after half-time to replace Benoit Assou-Ekotto, who seemed in danger of tearing someone’s head off. But either Tottenham had been told to play a physical game (without getting sent off) or the referee had gone card-happy because when Gareth found himself on one yellow card, he had no choice but to let an Everton player go by him. And as all his non-carded fellow defenders were having a mother’s meeting on the other side of the pitch, Everton scored. The next time Everton tried to score, Gareth got in the way but they just sent the ball over to the other side of the pitch and they scored from that side instead. (And it’s not just me who’s saying this. I’ve heard England fans saying it too.)
Fulham 1-0 Sunderland
Simon Davies didn’t recover from injury in time but Fulham just about managed without him.
