Birmingham 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur
Gareth Bale was again one of Tottenham’s star players but he couldn’t stop Birmingham from scoring a late equaliser. It wasn’t his fault though. Nearly everyone thought he was the best player on the pitch and I certainly wouldn’t disagree with that.
Fulham 0-2 Aston Villa
Fulham ignored me and started Simon Davies and what happens? He comes off after 24 minutes. He’s a great player and I can see why they wanted him to start but if you rush him back he’s going to have more problems. It’s another ankle problem but I don’t know if it’s the same injury or even the same ankle.
James Collins played the full match and kept a clean sheet, ensuring that Bobby Zamora didn’t get another goal to add to his tally. He also might possibly have come close to an own goal but he didn’t score one so it doesn’t matter.
James thinks Villa could make the top four – and they certainly could. I’d say have the best defence of the four main contenders – Villa, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham – they actually have five excellent defenders, more than they can fit in the starting line-up. But they do need to score more goals.
Hull City 2-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Hull City took the lead twice against Wolves but both times Wolves got an equaliser. It’s good to see both teams scoring but draws aren’t going to keep them up. Hull goalkeeper Boaz Myhill as usual made some very fine saves but he did let in two goals although one was an own goal so he probably wasn’t expecting it.
I would have loved to see Bo up against Wales’ other goalkeeper, Wayne Hennessey, but he was on the bench, as was Sam Vokes.
Liverpool 2-0 Bolton Wanderers
Sam Ricketts couldn’t keep a sheet for Bolton but they were playing Liverpool who are pretty good when they’re in the right mood. He nearly got an assist but Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina was just too good.
West Ham 0-0 Blackburn Rovers
Jack Collison played the full match for West Ham but they just couldn’t get a goal although again he was getting shots on target, as were a number of his team-mates. If all of them had gone in maybe Jason Brown would have been just marginally closer to taking over as Blackburn’s No 1 goalkeeper. Although if I was an England fan I’d be wanting Paul Robinson to stay in goal as he is one of the best English goalkeepers.
Wigan Athletic 0-1 Everton
Jason Koumas did manage to get onto Wigan’s bench this time but he didn’t get to play any part in the match and Wigan lost. Unfortunately this probably is a coincidence.
