Premier League Results 7th February

Birmingham City 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolves played well but couldn’t do anything with Birmingham, who seem to be off on another unbeaten run following their defeat to Chelsea. It didn’t help when Birmingham’s Kevin Phillips decided to turn into the Midlands’ equivalent of Ryan Giggs. Wayne Hennessey and Sam Vokes were on the bench for Wolves.

Chelsea v Arsenal
I’m not telling you the result. It doesn’t reflect the effort Arsenal put in. They had so much possession, were unlucky not to score but then once they had failed to score, Chelsea kept running off with the ball and putting into the net before Arsenal had had a chance to get back to defend. Aaron Ramsey was on the bench for Arsenal.
Arsenal have actually done amazingly well. They have been playing without a striker for so long and yet while they’ve struggled against the best teams, they’re still (just about) right up there in the title race and looking good for third place, if nothing else. I think Arsene Wenger is right not to buy players just for the sake of it but any team who is pretty much playing 4-6-0 is going to struggle to win because it’s the strikers who get most of the goals. Robin van Persie is injured, Nicklas Bendtner is on his way back but not ready to start, Carlos Vela is very young (and injured now too), Andrey Arshavin and Eduardo have done a great job but really they’re wingers.
Arsenal have done a good job. But they could have done better with a new striker.
