Brentford 4-0 Gillingham
Lewis Price was left out of Brentford’s squad entirely and Brentford did just fine without him. (I’m sure they’d have put him on the bench if they could have done but they needed to use their other loanees.)
Exeter City 1-1 Southampton
Southampton are of course a much better side than their points total suggests so a draw for Exeter wasn’t that bad. Unfortunately it also wasn’t that good as Exeter need all the points they can get. Rob Edwards was again outstanding with another experienced player, Andy Marriott starting his second consecutive match and doing his bit in goal. And while Rob was voted Man of the Match by Exeter City supporters, there were also plenty of votes for Richard Duffy. Stuart Fleetwood was on the bench. The only Welsh player in Southampton’s squad was Lloyd James, who returned from an ankle injury to play 80 minutes.
Leyton Orient 1-1 Brighton & Hove Albion
Leyton Orient have been unbeaten since Nicky Adams joined them on loan from Leicester – and it’s probably not a complete coincidence. Andrew Crofts, who has revealed he wants to play for Wales against England, played the full match for Brighton. Andrew is a very good player who certainly deserves to be considered but as John Toshack wants a squad full of Premier League players, Andrew probably needs a transfer to a Championship club at least. It’s probably not impossible.
Millwall 2-1 Norwich City
Millwall beat top-of-the-table Norwich and moved up into fifth place. Jason Price has gone to Oldham on loan so Millwall have no Welsh players left so I’ll just mention that their Welsh manager Kenny Jackett was happy with the team but disappointed about the goal they conceded. Norwich have also sent their Welsh players on loan. It’s not something I’d do but it does seem to have worked apart from today.
