Newcastle 5-1 Cardiff City
Really not the result I was hoping for. Even when you’re adopted team loses, it still hurts.
But Newcastle are a really good team who arguably shouldn’t be in the Championship anyway. Cardiff’s inconsistency is worrying but I think any club would suffer if they’d had Cardiff’s problems this season. Cardiff had a big illness problem and as soon as that seemed to be over, they had an injury crisis. Joe Ledley has now gone to have his hip operations and it’s natural they’re going to miss him, particularly in the big games like this. No news on Joe’s progress but the first operation did go ahead as scheduled.
And it does look like Cardiff have an exciting future, if not an exciting present. Substitute Aaron Wildig’s first senior goal for the club was very well-taken. There was also a full match for Darcy Blake which should be great experience for him and even Adam Matthews’ mis-hit cross could have been a goal if the strikers had been a bit quicker getting to the rebound. Well it might have been.
