Wolverhampton Wanderers v Newcastle United
Newcastle haven’t lost at home for ages but away is a different matter. Wolves are likely to give Newcastle less trouble than Manchester United did on the opening day of the season.
Dave Edwards will be making his 150th league start if he plays today but apparently he will have another fitness test, despite – or maybe because of – his 90-minute involvement in the Carling Cup midweek.
David Jones will almost certainly be recalled. Wayne Hennessey would probably absolutely love a start after his performance in the Carling Cup but somehow I don’t think he’ll get one.
Manchester United v West Ham United
Manchester United are desperate to win back the league title and they’ll be doubly so after last week’s disappointment against Fulham. And the way West Ham have been playing – they are pointless - it’s difficult to imagine Manchester Unied getting fewer than three points.
Ryan Giggs could play in central midfield if Paul Scholes is rested. Michael Owen should also be in the squad but Owen Hargreaves is out with his knee injury again.
Danny Gabbidon could start for West Ham again but Jack Collison is out with a knee injury.
