Hereford United 0-2 Macclesfield Town
I like Hereford a lot. They’re right next to Wales and they’ve got three Welsh defenders which is something not many teams can say. But I really wanted Macclesfield to win today, for their late manager Keith Alexander, who died after Tuesday’s match against Notts County. And I don’t think even Hereford can begrudge them a win.
It certainly wasn’t a case of Hereford letting Macclesfield win. They might be League Two but they’re still professional. Maybe the emotional strain was getting to Hereford but also, Macclesfield played extremely well and deserved the three points on merit.
Ryan Green and Ryan Valentine were Hereford’s full-backs, with Darren Jones absent again. Matthew Tipton was on the bench for Macclesfield.
Port Vale 1-3 Northampton Town
If Port Vale win their game in hand, they’ll be only six points from the play-offs and three points behind the team who beat them today so I suppose they’re not out of it yet. But they will need to play better than this.
Gareth Owen played in Port Vale’s defence but the Welsh strikers were working in shifts – Lewis Haldane in the first half and Craig Davies in the second.
Peter Gilbert played in defence for Northampton.
Rotherham United 1-2 Bradford City
After a midweek blip, Bradford City continue their rampage under Peter Taylor. Michael Flynn put Bradford ahead on 60 minutes. Automatic promotion contenders Rotherham equalised through a penalty in the second minute of stoppage time. But three minutes later, the game was still going on and Bradford found a winner.
