League One Results 6th March Part 1

Charlton Athletic 2-0 Stockport County
Charlton kept their automatic promotion hopes alive with victory over the team almost everyone beats. Charlton were of course without Grant Basey but they still managed to put two past Stockport’s excellent keeper Owain fon Williams.
Stockport aren’t mathematically relegated. Mathematically (at least in theory) they could still make the play-offs. But they’re going down. Yet they didn’t let Charlton walk all over them.

Exeter City 1-1 Oldham Athletic
Poor Exeter. Missing a penalty is always horrible but missing a penalty in the closing stages of a match, a penalty that could have claimed you the three points, is always sad. And ultimately, a point didn’t do a good deal for either team.
Andy Marriott was again only fit enough for the bench after injuring his neck last week and Rob Edwards was missing from the squad altogether. But Richard Duffy kept his place in defence and Stuart Fleetwood was on the substitutes’ bench, although he wasn’t used.
Daniel Nardiello went straight into the starting line-up for Oldham, playing alongside fellow loan Welsh striker Jason Price. Joe Jacobson played in defence.

Leeds United 1-1 Brentford
Lucky Leeds got another late(ish) goal that resulted in another point. Charlton are now only a point behind although they’ve played a game more than Leeds. Weren’t they twelve points clear at one stage? They were unlucky not to get through the play-offs in their first League One season, having overcome a big points deduction.
Lewis Price was on the bench for Brentford. If you have to be kept out of the team by someone, it’s best if it’s an Arsenal player, isn’t it?

Milton Keynes Dons 1-0 Leyton Orient
MK Dons bounced back from two straight defeats and probably still have a chance of making the play-offs as a result. Jermaine Easter did his best for his team, coming close to a goal on more than one occasion.
