Nottingham Forest 1-0 Swansea City
Nottingham Forest continued their run of home wins, which meant that Swansea’s unbeaten run had to come to an end. It was unlucky for Swansea, who should have had a penalty.
They were probably quite glad that Rob Earnshaw was ruled out with an Achilles problem – he was injured in training on Friday, not whilst on duty with Wales. The fact that promotion-chasers Forest have signed a a player on loan from bottom club Peterborough United suggests desperation but Forest did well.
And they still had right back Chris Gunter to cause problems. Chris could have got a goal and an assist in a great performance.
Ashley Williams had a bad moment in Swansea’s defence but it didn’t lead to the goal, his performance was generally good, even though the poor little boy was forced to play for Wales midweek (you might detect a slight hint of sarcasm there). Jazz Richards also played the full match with David Cornell on the bench.
David Cotterill’s hamstring injury, sustained on international duty, kept him out of the match. It was inconvenient for Swansea but someone needs to tell Paolo Sousa what an honour it is to play for your country. Even in a friendly. He had a moan about the result of this match too but that seemed reasonable. They should have had a penalty.
Peterborough United 0-1 Coventry City
Craig Morgan fought hard in the Peterborough defence but Coventry still managed to score one and it might even just about have been Craig’s fault, if you’re not in a generous mood. Freddy Eastwood
stayed on Coventry’s bench again.
This defeat leaves Peterborough thirteen points from safety. It isn’t looking good and if new manager Jim Gannon is so convinced they’re going down, how can anyone else believe in them?
Plymouth Argyle 1-1 Preston North End
Plymouth are fighters, I’ll give them that. It probably helps a lot having a captain like Carl Fletcher, who played in central defence. Although Plymouth’s equaliser did come from a penalty, they wouldn’t have got it if Carl hadn’t been in Preston’s penalty area, getting closer to goal than the defenders wanted. Carl came second in Plymouth’s Player of the Month competition. He’s done well for Plymouth. Maybe Crystal Palace should have kept hold of him. Come to that, I wish Wales had kept hold of him.
Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Leicester City
Sheffield Wednesday’s win kept them in the relegation places on goal difference but they couldn’t drag Leicester out of the play-off places. Andy King played the full game for Leicester with Nicky Adams on the bench.
