This result ensures that both teams will be playing Championship football. Mathematically, Scunthorpe can still go down but Sheffield Wednesday would need to win all their games and Crystal Palace would need to get a win and a draw. As the two teams are playing each other, this is impossible. Reading had little chance of the play-offs before this match but the draw means they can’t go up whatever happens in the final two games.
Reading were 2-0 up in the 81st minute and looked set to take all three points but Scunthorpe had other ideas. Eight minutes later the scores were level and it was too late for Reading to do anything.
Simon Church got a rare start for Reading and reports suggest he got the assist for the first goal although BBC Sport suggests otherwise.
