Championship Results 24th April Part 1

Bristol City 2-1 Derby County
Bristol City got back to winning ways with a victory over Derby, who are safe but probably disappointed with their season.
Lewin Nyatanga kept his place in Bristol City’s starting line-up and he nearly scored an own goal from a backpass but he didn’t so that’s okay. Christian Ribeiro was back on the bench.
Robbie Savage played for Derby and nearly got an assist.

Cardiff City 3-2 Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday are still just a point from safety and Crystal Palace have two games in hand – it’s not looking good. Cardiff are almost guaranteed to finish in one of the top two play-off places but manager Dave Jones doesn’t think that will give them a particular advantage.
Joe Ledley played another ninety minutes for Cardiff and came close to getting another goal. Darcy Blake also started but was replaced at half-time after getting a knock. Aaron Wildig came off the bench on later on and reports suggest he might have got the assist for the winning goal but either way, he was very much involved. Adam Matthews was also among the substitutes.

Doncaster Rovers 4-3 Scunthorpe United
Neither team had a great deal to play for, with Scunthorpe definitely safe and Doncaster wobbling since losing their chance of being in the play-offs. But both managed to lift themselves for a very exciting derby.
The plan was for Brian Stock to make his comeback as a substitute but an injury to fellow Welshmen John Oster meant he was promoted to the starting line-up. Brian managed 64 minutes and could perhaps have gone on longer. John will have a scan on his injured knee today. Gareth Roberts was also in Doncaster’s starting line-up and got the assist for the second goal.

Middlesbrough 1-1 Coventry City

It wasn’t a great showing for either side but I like the look of Middlesbrough’s Luke Williams. I wonder if he’s Welsh, he looks promising.
Rhys Williams played the full match for Middlesbrough with Danny Coyne on the bench.
Freddy Eastwood played the full match for Coventry and his badly-saved shot on goal led to the equaliser.
