Brentford 0-0 Exeter City
Exeter really wanted more than a point but at least they’re still three points outside the relegation zone. Brentford are up in the top half of the table again. They just can’t make up their mind where they want to be.
Both teams put their star Welsh goalkeepers on the bench – Brentford’s Lewis Price and Exeter’s Andy Marriott. Unfortunately for them, their replacements did pretty well.
Stuart Fleetwood scored in Exeter’s last match after coming on as an early substitute. He says he was thrilled to make his substitute appearance so he was probably quite happy to start too. Richard Duffy was Exeter’s Man of the Match but Rob Edwards was kept out by the hamstring injury that led to Stuart coming off the bench in the last game.
Bristol Rovers 1-0 Milton Keynes Dons
I thought Bristol Rovers lacked the consistency for the play-offs but one way in which they’ve always been consistent is their ability to surprise me. And their latest surprise is, they are very much in the play-off hunt. MK Dons could get there too but it’s unlikely.
Ben Swallow started for Bristol Rovers after an impressive substitute appearance but Byron Anthony was absent, serving the second game of his two-match suspension.
Jermaine Easter played for MK Dons but it wasn’t a Happy Easter. Poor Jermaine missed a penalty (although it was an amazing save from the goalkeeper, not many could have saved it) and got another yellow card for his collection. I believe it’s his 13th of the season.
Charlton Athletic 1-0 Carlisle United
Charlton’s play-off bid remains intact after Carlisle United failed to beat them.
Kenny Jackett joked (I think) that he’d lent Jason Price to Carlisle so he could help them beat Millwall’s play-off/automatic promotion rivals. He has done well until now, beating Bristol Rovers and drawing with Colchester. And Jason did manage to put the ball into the net. Unfortunately, it was ruled out for offside. He was able to do his bit defensively though, clearing one Charlton shot off the line and keeping the score at 0-0. Jason says he would ‘seriously look at’ a contract offer from Carlisle.
Charlton were without the injured Grant Basey (ankle).
Colchester United 1-2 Millwall
Colchester failed to put themselves back in the play-offs after losing to Millwall, who haven’t lost since they played Wycombe Wanderers on 20th February – their only defeat of 2010.
Colchester’s Lee Beevers is still injured and loanee Thomas Bender wasn’t n the squad either.
