Millwall 3-1 Coventry City
Millwall bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Leeds United with victory over Coventry, who have also had a great start to the season.
Millwall’s opening goal came from a Coventry player but it was Steve Morison who provided the cross. Steve got on the scoresheet himself when he was fouled in the penalty area and tucked away the resulting spot kick.
Freddy Eastwood came off Coventry’s bench three minutes after what was Coventry’s hour-mark equaliser but he was unable to add to it.
Nottingham Forest 1-1 Norwich City
Nottingham Forest do now have three points but rather than coming from what would have been a very welcome win, they all came from draws. Norwich are only out of the play-offs on goal difference.
Andrew Crofts scored his second goal for Norwich when he got the equaliser. Robert Earnshaw came close to winning the match for Forest but he hit a post. Chris Gunter missed out due to suspension.
Portsmouth 0-2 Cardiff City
Cardiff and Portsmouth continue to head for opposite ends of the table with Cardiff joint-top and Portsmouth rock bottom. It was their first meeting since the 2008 FA Cup final.
Darcy Blake was back in the starting line-up after apparently recovering from an ankle injury but he only lasted 28 minutes before injuring the other ankle. Adam Matthews again replaced him. Craig Bellamy started the match but was unable to find the back of the net. Jason Koumas made another late substitute appearance as he tries to build up match fitness. Aaron Wildig wasn’t in the squad, perhaps because of the Premier League players’ influx.
Scunthorpe United 3-0 Crystal Palace
I don’t know what Scunthorpe are even doing in the Championship but they looked the part on Saturday as they swept Crystal Palace aside. Palace are at the wrong end of the table again and this time they can’t blame it on a points deduction.
Andy Dorman was rested which could have been part of the problem for Palace but he came off the bench after 72 minutes. Lewis Price stayed on the bench.
