League One Results 14th August 2010 Part 1

Bournemouth 5-1 Peterborough United
Peterborough have been tipped (at least by some organisations) as finishing the season in the play-offs. Bournemouth, on the other hand, are expected to finish a lot lower down. But you’d never have guessed it from this inspired display. They probably could have played poorly and still won the match but they kept on going and wouldn’t be satisfied being two or three goals up.
Rhoys Wiggins played in defence for Bournemouth but there was no place in the squad for Joe Partington. It must be nice for Bournemouth to have a full substitutes’ bench after last season but not so nice for the players that are left out.
Arron Davies was an unused substitute for Peterborough.

Brentford 1-2 Walsall

Both teams gave their fans a nice surprise at the end of last season (unless, of course, their fans are the unrealistic type) by finishing in the top half of the table. Andy Scott says the better team lost but he does manage Brentford.
Walsall only made one substitution and it wasn’t Sean Geddes.

Bristol Rovers 2-1 Yeovil Town
After losing 6-1 to Oxford United in the Carling Cup, Bristol Rovers really really wanted to win this match. Yeovil scored first and looked the brighter side but Yeovil equalised late on. The points looked set to be shared between these two sides but then up popped defender Byron Anthony. And as he plays for Bristol Rovers, they were the team who took the three points. Yeovil did manage to get the ball in the net after that but the goal was disallowed.
Ben Swallow was on the bench for the home side but the same eleven players were used throughout the match. Nathan Jones again started for Yeovil and did a fine job for them at left back.

Colchester United 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

These two teams have already played one another in the Championship but now they met again on equal terms and it looked like the home side (I don’t remember them being non-league but my dad does) who was set to take all three points. But Wednesday battled hard and managed to grab a late draw.
Lloyd James was on the bench for Colchester but there was no place in the squad for Lee Beevers or youngster (he is like 5 years younger than me) Tom Bender.
