Burnley 4-3 Preston North End
Preston came so close. After 70 minutes, Preston were 3-1 up. They should have got their first away win of the season but as it happened, they didn’t even get their first away point.
Maybe Preston could have hung on if they’d been able to keep all eleven players on the field of play. But a one-man advantage shouldn’t have made that much of a difference to Burnley.
In happier news, Paul Parry returned to Preston’s squad, having built up his match fitness. He was called into action as early as the 28th minute and he remained on the pitch until the end. Craig Morgan played in defence for Preston.
Cardiff City 2-0 Hull City
Usually, loan players aren’t allowed to play against their parent clubs. It just isn’t done. But considering Cardiff’s Anthony Gerrard was on loan at Hull and Hull’s Seyi Olofinjana was on loan at Cardiff, they thought they might as well let both players play.
Hull most probably regretted it after Olofinjana took the lead for Cardiff but perhaps, without Gerrard in defence, Cardiff would have scored more goals.
Jason Koumas was the only player to start for Cardiff but it was the player who replaced him after 76 minutes, Aaron Wildig, who provided the assist for the winning goal. BBC Sport described his backheel as cute and I have to say the rest of him doesn’t look too bad either. Darcy Blake, Adam Matthews and Nathaniel Jarvis were unused subsitutes but Craig Bellamy is still out with a knee injury.
Coventry City 1-1 Leicester City
Coventry took the lead late in the first half but Leicester kept on fighting. Luckily Andy King was back in the starting line-up and it was he who got the equaliser but even so, Leicester were without their first win.
Freddy Eastwood wasn’t in Coventry’s squad due to a knee injury.
Derby County 0-1 Sheffield United
Sheffield United got their second win of the season while Derby slipped closer to the relegation zone.
Gareth Roberts started for Derby but was stretchered off in the 81st minute. Robbie Savage left the field ten minutes before but hopefully he’s okay.
Ched Evans was a good attacking threat for Sheffield United and it didn’t matter that he couldn’t find the net because one goal was enough.
