Newcastle United v Blackpool
The last time these two teams played, Newcastle won 4-1 to keep their unbeaten home record intact. Blackpool were just starting to wonder if their play-off dream would become a reality. As it turned out, there was far more to the dream than just the play-offs.
David Vaughan should go back into Blackpool’s starting line-up after his return from international duty. Neal Eardley should also be in the squad but Rob Edwards is a doubt due to an ankle injury.
West Bromwich Albion v Tottenham Hotspur
West Brom take on Tottenham in their fourth match of the season, having already faced Chelsea and Liverpool. In their favour, West Brom won their last two home matches against Tottenham. And Tottenham will have Gareth Bale in the… oh wait.
To say that Gareth has broken the curse is a bit of an understatement. Of Tottenham’s last ten league goals, he has scored or assisted seven. He is also Tottenham’s top scorer, having scored 100% of this season’s league goals. He’s lucky he’s Welsh or I’m sure I’d hate him.
Boaz Myhill will be on the bench for West Brom. Tottenham will probably be very glad of that. I’m sure they haven’t forgotten the 0-0 draw with Bo’s old club Hull City last season.
West Ham United v Chelsea
It’s top v bottom in this London derby and I for one definitely want the bottom side to come out on, well, top. West Ham are without a point and with only one goal (a penalty). Chelsea have scored 14 goals from three league games and have yet to concede. I would love to say the stage is set for a shock West Ham victory. Unfortunately, I don’t think it is – though West Ham are more than welcome to prove me wrong.
The last team to score against Chelsea was a Welshman, the famous Gareth Bale, but unfortunately West Ham’s Danny Gabbidon is a doubt with a hamstring injury. Jack Collison, of course, is ruled out with a knee injury.
Chelsea goalkeeper Rhys Taylor has extended his loan from Crewe Alexandra but he wouldn’t have been in the squad anyway. Hopefully he’ll leave Chelsea and join Arsenal, that would be good.
