Brentford v Hartlepool United
After a great finish last season, Brentford seem to be suffering from thecondition known as second season syndrome. Hartlepool’s problems are probably more to do with their finances.
Nicky Adams will hope to keep his place in the starting line-up so he can show the fans why Leyton Orient loved him last season – and why it was a bit silly of Leicester City to let him go.
Carlisle United v Brighton & Hove Albion
Carlisle and Brighton spent some time embroiled in the relegation battle last season although the timely intervention of Jason Price, on loan from Millwall, helped Carlisle to mid-table, while Andrew Crofts made enough of a difference to Brighton for promoted Norwich City to nab him.
Jason is back at Carlisle on a permanent deal this time but a muscle injury has meant he’s still awaiting his first start as a proper Carlisle player.
Dagenham & Redbridge v Bristol Rovers
BBC Sport says Dag & Red will probably field the side that beat Bournemouth last week but that probably won’t be possible as I’m pretty sure Bournemouth won that match. Bristol Rovers will hope to end a four-match run without a win against League One’s bottom side (but only on goal difference. Dag & Red are level on points with Southampton and that sounds pretty good to me).
Tony Roberts will be in goal for Dag & Red.
Byron Anthony should keep his place for Bristol Rovers – the club haven’t got the results they hoped for but Byron has done consistently well in defence. Ben Swallow could get his first start of the season if he covers for a suspended player but he might just be on the bench with Eliot Richards again.
Exeter City v Peterborough United
Exeter are currently mid-table, whatever that means at this stage of the season, but now they face the challenge of hosting the team at the top of the division. Luckily it’s mostly Peteborough’s good home form which has helped them into first place but Exeter are yet to lose at home. Actually, they’ve only lost one game this season – half as many as Peterborough.
Richard Duffy should start for Exeter, along with Daniel Nardiello if he’s recovered from whatever it was that caused him to leave the pitch at half-time in the last match. Rob Edwards will probably be on the bench.
Peterborough are without Arron Davies, who has a hamstring injury.
