Arsenal 4-1 Bolton Wanderers
Robin van Persie out. Bolton coming to visit. Stuart Attwell the man in black. It’s fair to say I was a bit worried about this fixture. And for almost an hour of the match, there was good reason to worry. No miraculous recovery for Robin, the opposition were still Bolton and Stuart Attwell was making me look highly competent.
But it turned out all right in the end. At least for Arsenal supporters. Bolton’s Gary Cahill shouldn’t have been sent off - although the FA, who dismissed his appeal, thought otherwise - but one of his team-mates probably should have been shown the red card.
Aaron Ramsey (broken leg) is on target for a November return to Arsenal’s squad.
Sam Ricketts was on the bench for Bolton.
Everton 3-3 Manchester United
Everton haven’t won a match. Manchester United are Manchester United. There was only one way this game was going to go and that’s exactly how it seemed to be going. After 90 minutes, Man Utd were 3-1 ahead. Two minutes later, the scores were level. A great point for Everton, even though it keeps them in the bottom three.
Ryan Giggs played the full match for Manchester United. Michael Owen was an unused substitute but Owen Hargreaves is still out with knee problems.
Fulham 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers
This result took Fulham into fifth place – although a subsequent Birmingham win meant they dropped a place – but maybe they’d trade in all three points to mend Bobby Zamora’s broken leg. The striker has been on great form for both Fulham and England but now it looks like he won’t play again until early next year. I know he plays for England and a rival London club but get well soon, Bobby.
The points could have been sealed earlier if any one of Simon Davies’ three penalty appeals hadn’t been rejected. I suppose it’s flattering that the Wolves players clearly saw him as such a threat but it can’t have been much fun for Simon. Simon did however get the assist for Fulhams 91st-minute winner.
David Jones came off the bench a minute after the hour mark, as Wolves did their best to take the lead for the second time in this match. Wayne Hennessey stayed on the bench. Dave Edwards wasn’t in the squad but I’m not sure why.
Manchester City 1-1 Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn took the lead after just 25 minutes after an uncharacteristic error from Joe Hart (don’t worry, Joe, even Welsh goalkeepers do that sometimes) but although Manchester City did equalise, their combined talent and paypackets weren’t enough to find a winner.
There were no Welsh players on either team as both have loaned their Welshmen to Championship sides – Craig Bellamy, of course, at Cardiff City and goalkeeper Jason Brown at Leeds United. And look what happened, neither team won.
