Paul Parry would have been quite glad to miss the Wrexham humiliation (although trust me, it’s far worse if you’re an Arsenal supporter) but he joined Craig Morgan in the starting line-up when he made his long-awaited return at home to Everton. Preston lost 3-0 but Everton are pretty good so that’s probably okay. Losing to Oldham Athletic was a bit less okay but it was only 1-0 away and the fact Paul played the whole match is definitely a positive.
I’m so glad Simon Church is Welsh. Not only can he score penalties, he wants to score them. It’s a bit weird but I’m in no position to criticise anyone for being weird. Simon was on target not once but twice when they beat Southampton 4-2, scoring with a penalty and a header (I assume the penalty was taken with his foot but it doesn’t actually say). Simon isn’t the regular penalty taker but he’d already been replaced by Jake Taylor. Hal Robson-Kanu also played and got an assist.
Swansea City lost 1-0 to ADO Den Haag in the final match on their pre-season tour. David Cotterill could have scored after a great move but he didn’t. Ashley Williams also played but David Cornell, Neil Taylor, Shaun MacDonald and Jazz Richards stayed on the bench. And you never know, maybe that’s why they lost.
