League One Results 7th August 2010 Part 1

Carlisle United 2-0 Brentford
Carlisle manager Greg Abbott says he expects new signing Jason Price to score lots of goals this season. But he’s not going to do that if you leave him on the bench. Not that I’m doubting Jason’s ability to get the ball into the net when he’s sitting on the bench but it won’t count as a goal.
It’s a good thing Carlisle won anyway really. They played very well and deserved the win so maybe Jason won’t be in the next game either.

Charlton Athletic 1-0 Bournemouth

Charlton will be going for promotion again this season and they certainly started the right way, by beating newly-promoted Bournemouth.
Charlton have got rid of their Welsh players but it doesn’t seem to have hurt them so far. New sigining Rhoys Wiggins went straight into the team as Bournemouth’s left back but Joe Partington didn’t get into the squad at all.

Exeter City 2-2 Colchester United

Colchester were never going to have an opening day like last season’s 7-1 victory over Champions Norwich City. But they must have been hopeful of getting three points when the 87th minute arrived and still Exeter hadn’t equalised.
Exeter would have preferred a winning start but they fought back well and don’t necessarily look like relegation fodder on this evidence.
Daniel Nardiello made his League debut for Exeter and won the 7th-minute penalty which put Exeter ahead. Richard Duffy played the full match despite a recent injury while Rob Edwards was on the bench. Andy Marriott was neither in the team nor on the bench. Sounds ominous. And a bit annoying too.
Lee Beevers and new signing Lloyd James were on the bench for Colchester.

Notts County 0-3 Huddersfield
This really shouldn’t have been as surprising as it was. Notts County have only just been promoted from League Two and Huddersfield were in the play-offs last season. So really this was a perfectly sensible result but it was a surprise all the same. I don’t know why.
Ben Davies played the full match for Notts County but couldn’t find the net.
