Cardiff City 2-0 Peterborough United
The last time Cardiff played Peterborough, they went 4-0 up and then didn’t win. This time they scored half as many goals but ended up with the three points. Maybe not as spectacular but ultimately more useful.
Darcy Blake was the only Welshman to start, with Aaron Wildig and Adam Matthews on the bench but a back injury forced Darcy off after 21 minutes, which Aaron, who has just recovered from a back injury himself, the man to take his place. Aaron was again excellent, helping to set up the opening goal before going on to complete the match.
Craig Morgan was in defence for Peterborough despite missing training the day before when his wife gave birth. Congratulations, Craig!
Coventry City 1-0 Nottingham Forest
Freddy Eastwood was back on the scoresheet with the only goal of the game as Forest lost their second match in three league games.
Robert Earnshaw came off the bench late on but he couldn’t find an equaliser. Chris Gunter was in Forest’s defence. He only let one goal in and he nearly scored.
Crystal Palace 0-1 Swansea City
Swansea beat Crystal Palace for the first time for 90 years while Palace also lost for the first time since going into administration. David Cotterill was surprisingly left on the bench after scoring a goal and setting up another in the last match. Joe Allen, who was Swansea’s last Man of the Match, was also a substitute, although both came off the bench late on. With David Cornell on the bench too, Ashley Williams – who also scored in the last match – was the only Welsh player on the pitch.
Derby County 3-0 Newcastle United
Derby are struggling but they certainly know how to lift themselves for the big games. Nottingham Forest and Newcastle are fighting it out with West Brom for automatic promotion yet both Forest and Newcastle have been beaten by Derby recently. Their influential captain Robbie Savage was substituted early so I hope he isn’t injured – he would be a big loss.
