League Two Results 9th February

Bournemouth 2-1 Notts County
Rhoys Wiggins got the assist for Bournemouth’s second goal. It came from a corner and pushed Bournemouth up to eight points ahead of fourth place. Joe Partington missed out with a back injury but Bournemouth’s injury situation is improving – a massive five players were passed fit to sit on the bench.

Bury 2-1 Macclesfield Town
Matthew Tipton came off the bench after 86 minutes but he had little time to save Macclesfield from losing to the admittedly high-flying Bury.

Cheltenham Town 0-1 Burton Albion
Cheltenham remain closer to the relegation places than they want to be as they lost 1-0 to Burton Albion, who are now just three points outside the play-offs. Josh Low did at least try to score but Burton’s Tony James was on top form again.

Northampton Town 4-0 Accrington Stanley

Accrington are not a bad side at all but a 4-0 victory for Northampton, who don’t look completely impossible for the play-offs after an 11-match unbeaten run. Peter Gilbert managed the full game for Northampton despite suffering from an injury this week.

Port Vale 1-2 Chesterfield
Port Vale manager Micky Adams remains convinced his team can make the play-offs and it probably is a bit too early to write them off. But they are nine points behind the play-offs at the moment so they do have a bit of work to do.
Craig Davies scored their goal after 45 minutes and continues to look a valuable addition but there were no goals for Lewis Haldane, who was replaced after 85 minutes.
More worrying for Port Vale was the loss of Gareth Owen to a hamstring injury after just27 minutes. Chesterfield however have a lot more to be cheerful about as their play-off hunt looks far more assured. Robert Page nearly scored and it was the rebound from his shot that led to the first goal. Mark Crossley was on the bench.

Rotherham United 2-0 Dagenham & Redbridge
Rotherham remain in the title hunt – they still have several games in hand over their rivals – but Dag & Red, once title contenders themselves, are barely even in the top half of the table now. To be fair they are only six points outside the play-offs so it could still happen for the side. Tony Roberts actually had a good game in goal for the Daggers, making a number of good saves, but Rotherham still got the win.

Shrewsbury Town 2-0 Barnet

Will Richards remained on the bench again as Shrewsbury continued their play-off challenge, which is progressing well.
