Middlesbrough v Newcastle United
Middlesbrough and Newcastle got relegated together and they aren’t all that far apart. But while Newcastle are storming their way back into the Premier League, Middlesbrough are right down in 10th place. Danny Coyne is likely to be in goal for Middlesbrough while Rhys Williams has recovered from a pelvis injury and is in contention to start. Rhys hopes to lead Middlesbrough on a late promotion surge – just as he did last season, on loan at Burnley.
Preston North End v Nottingham Forest
Preston take on Forest, who have been a problem at home but have become recently beatable away. Paul Parry is definitely out for Preston but Rob Earnshaw is fit following an Achilles problem and could be in Nottingham Forest’s starting line-up with Chris Gunter.
Reading v Bristol City
Reading are still in trouble – but so are any team who are unlucky enough to face them. Simon Church was on the bench when they faced Derby but he came on as a substitute and scored past goalkeeper Robbie Savage. Reading won’t be in the Premier League next season but Simon could be - Liverpool are interested and I think it would be great to see Simon in the Europa League next season.
Lewin Nyatanga could keep his place in Bristol City’s starting line-up but Gavin Williams won’t play as he has signed on loan for Yeovil Town, where he’ll be in good company, playing alongside their two other Welsh loan midfielders.
James Wilson could have taken Gavin’s place on the bench but after jarring his knee in a reserve Cup match, he’s likely to be out for 3-6 weeks. It’s not fair.
Christian Ribeiro, however, seems to be a possible option for Bristol City. Colchester were hoping to re-sign him on loan but the way things are going, Bristol City might prefer to hang on to him.
