Manchester United 3-0 Fulham
Manchester United got their revenge on Fulham for beating them by the same scoreline in the reverse fixture. Of course, Fulham have only won one away game this season and that was against Portsmouth so an away win over Old Trafford never really looked likely.
Ryan Giggs was unable to return for Manchester United as hoped. Fulham’s Simon Davies, worryingly, was replaced at half-time but I think this was a result of fatigue rather than a relapse. And he’s got an FA Cup replay tomorrow too.
Sunderland 1-1 Manchester City
Sunderland couldn’t extend their winning run beyond one game whilst Manchester City did the one thing they do better than any other team in the Premier League – draw games.
Craig Bellamy worked hard and had several attempts at scoring for City but Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon was having one of those days where only something exceptional could get past him. Unfortunately for Sunderland, substitute Adam Johnson – formerly of rivals Middlesbrough - did just that in stoppage time. I wonder if he has any Welsh blood.
