Hull City 1-2 Arsenal
Hull remain in trouble but losing by one goal to Arsenal really isn’t all that bad. Arsenal, meanwhile, keep pace with the other title challengers.
Hull actually played very well. If Boaz Myhill had been at his best for the whole game, I don’t like to think what could have happened. But if they can play like this against their rivals, staying up is a real possibility.
Aaron Ramsey was missing for Arsenal although the fans chanted his name all the same. Sanchez Watt didn’t make it into the matchday squad. It was unlucky he came back from his loan to Southend United just when Nicklas Bendtner remembered where the goal was.
Stoke City 0-0 Aston Villa
A point for Aston Villa leaves them behind in the Champions’ League places but only by three points. And we all know how tough Stoke are at home.
Ryan Shawcross was suspended but Danny Collins played well, helping Stoke to a clean sheet.
James Collins had the chance to add to his impressive goal tally for Aston Villa but he headed wide. As even Rooney and Drogba do sometimes. He was however excellent defensively and got into the ESPN Team of the Week alongside Gareth Bale. James has had a busy week. As well as keeping a clean sheet for Villa, he also caught out someone on Twitter pretending to be Stephen Warnock. There was a fake Aaron Ramsey on there too.
Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Blackburn Rovers
Tottenham continued to adapt well to their midfield crisis as Blackburn’s away form showed no sign of improving although they’re still ten points clear of the play-offs.
Gareth Bale was excellent in left midfield, his attacking and crosses outstanding. Blackburn right back Michel Salgado couldn’t do a thing with him except foul him but unfortunately the referee was looking the other way. Gareth also added to his assists tally when his brilliant cross found Roman Pavlyuchenko.
An injury to Paul Robinson in the early stages of the game saw Jason Brown come off the bench after 25 minutes. He did very well for most of the match but he was up against a team who, come the end of the season, could form part of the new Big Four.
