Oldham Athletic 2-2 Wycombe Wanderers
The points were shared in this relegation three-pointer. Joe Jacobson played for the home side and nearly got an assist but Jason Price had gone back to Millwall and been sent out to Carlisle and Daniel Nardiello has a hamstring injury.
Southampton 1-0 Leeds United
Lloyd James was unable to return to Southampton’s squad as expected but Leeds’ poor form continued. They have three wins in their last thirteen league games. That’s the same number as Gareth Bale has in his last three league games. Gareth, you didn’t happen to leave your jinx in the away dressing room when Tottenham played Leeds in the FA Cup?
Southend United 0-0 Exeter City
With both sides languishing in the bottom four, a point wasn’t much good to either of them. Maybe it will be some consolation that they kept clean sheets.
Andy Marriott was on the bench again for Exeter, not sufficiently recovered from his neck injury in order to play. His replacement, Paul Jones (English unfortunately) did a good job. Rob Edwards was out of the squad again but Richard Duffy kept his place in the starting line-up, with Stuart Fleetwood coming off the bench after 77 minutes.
Stockport County 0-0 Gillingham
Stockport manager Gary Ablett praised the performance of goalkeeper Owain fon Williams in this match. Owain helped his team to register a clean sheet and a point against Gillingham, who now move five points clear of the relegation zone.
Yeovil Town 4-0 Hartlepool United
Gavin Williams made his second debut for Yeovil in this game (he’s on loan from Bristol City) and it really was all about him. He scored Yeovil’s second goal in the 38th minute with an astounding free kick, before setting up Hartlepool’s Sam Collins for an own goal. Fourteen minutes later Gavin left the field, having been shown a red card for violent conduct.
It was an eventful second debut, to say the least.
The fact that Yeovil moved into 11th place as a result of this win is little more than a footnote, as is the contribution of fellow loanee Shaun MacDonald. Arron Davies was dropped to the bench to make space for Gavin in the team. Well, he won’t be needing a space next week.
