League Two Results 13th March Part 1

Bradford City 2-1 Aldershot Town
Another win for Bradford leaves Aldershot five points away from the play-offs – and Bradford are nine points away. I still don’t think they’ll get there but that’s what people said about Arsenal when they were nine points away. And look at them now. Not that you can really compare Bradford and Arsenal but they have both played European football.
Michael Flynn got the assist for Bradford’s equaliser after 14 minutes with a great cross.

Burton Albion 5-6 Cheltenham Town
Now Burton know how Hereford felt when Tony James scored a last-minute winner for Burton in the game they won 3-4.
Burton were happily 2-0 up at half-time and even when Cheltenham brought it back to 2-2 they didn’t seem unduly worried. They just got a Cheltenham player to score an own goal and they were ahead again. Then they scored again in the 72nd minute, taking the score to 4-2. Game over? No way. Cheltenham got one in the 85th, Burton replied a minute later. 5-3 to Burton. The game still wasn’t over. Except for Burton that was. In the final four minutes of normal time, plus the four minutes of stoppage time, Cheltenham did the impossible. They scored three goals. 5-6 to Cheltenham. The game really was over then.
Tony James again played the full match for Burton but I think he enjoyed the Hereford game a lot more than this one. But I mustn’t forget, in all the excitement, that Cheltenham lost Josh Low to injury after 16 minutes. But there isn’t any bad news so maybe that’s good news.

Chesterfield 0-5 Port Vale
Like Burton, Port Vale scored five goals. But instead of losing the match, they thrashed their automatic promotion-chasing opponents. The last time Port Vale beat Chesterfield, Aaron Ramsey wasn’t born. Quite possibly Gareth Bale wasn’t either. Even Ryan Giggs wasn’t old enough to go to the pub.
Craig Davies scored the winner from a penalty, as well as providing the assist for the second goal. And he nearly scored the goal of the season too.
Lewis Haldane didn’t get any goals or assists but he nearly got a goal and Gareth Owen did well to keep Port Vale’s clean sheet.
Robert Page played in defence for Chesterfield (well he was on the team sheet, it’s quite possible he didn’t ‘turn up’ as the saying goes) with Mark Crossley on the bench.
