Blackburn Rovers v Chelsea
Last week was a big one for both these teams’ Welsh goalkeepers, with Jason Brown coming off the bench to replace Paul Robinson in Blackburn’s match against Tottenham, while injuries to Chelsea’s first and second-choice goalkeepers saw Rhys Taylor take his place on the bench.
Jason will keep his place against Chelsea – facing two of the current Top Four in the space of a week would be a nightmare for any keeper but it could be worse. He could be facing Arsenal. Manager Sam Allardyce has challenged Jason to keep Paul Robinson out of the team when he returns from injury and Jason doesn’t seem averse to the idea.
Chelsea’s goalkeepers are now back in training and either or both could be in the squad to face Blackburn. So it’s back to the reserves for Rhys. For now anyway.
Fulham v Manchester City
Having dumped Juventus out of the Europa League, Fulham now take on Manchester City. It’s a bit of a come-down really.
Simon Davies has been excellent for Fulham and is likely to start. Emmanuel Adebayor is suspended, Robinho is (just about) still on loan and if Roque Santa Cruz isn’t injured now, he could be before this game comes to a close. Not great news for him but it probably won’t make much difference to Craig Bellamy, who would almost certainly have played anyway.
Manchester United v Liverpool
A point will be enough for Manchester United to return to the top of the table but three points for Liverpool won’t put them back into the top four.
Ryan Giggs returns for Manchester United after recovering from a broken arm.
