Sunderland 4-0 Bolton Wanderers
When Sunderland finally got their first win for ages, they did it emphatically. Bolton went down to ten men after 73 minutes but Sunderland were already winning 2-0 by then. Unfortunately the third goal came from a penalty conceded by Sam Ricketts, who was sent off for a second bookable offence. A good win for Sunderland but Bolton are still in trouble and must play their next game without Sam, who is himself an emergency centre back.
Burnley 1-1 Stoke City
In some ways, it’s disappointing to see Stoke only draw with struggling Burnley. On the other hand, Stoke are a team who are well-known for getting most of their points at home. So to get a point away, particularly against another side who are (or at least used to be) strong at home is actually pretty good. And they were without the suspended Ryan Shawcross. Danny Collins played in defence in his absence.
